Chapter 1: Ozzy the Freshman

Chapter Text

It was another day at school.
Abe was up late last night thinking about Cleo. It was around the middle of 4th period, right before lunch, when he began to slowly fall asleep.
Gandhi was moved to the opposite end of Abe, so he couldn’t get him to wake up. Gandhi rolled his eyes.
“Abe! Yo, Abe! Wake up, I have something to ask you!” He whisper yelled.
“Gandhi, what did I tell you about talking while I’m teaching? If you have a question, just raise your hand.” Mr. Sheepman got onto Gandhi before going back to his lecture.
Gandhi had started taking medicine for his ADHD, which didn’t help a whole not, but at least it made him less talkative and energetic in class. Unfortunately it also made him zone out if he was thinking about something else, which was the case right now. What was he thinking about?…who knows! He couldn’t tell you either!
This was the case for the rest of class, right until the bell rang, which woke Abe up and snapped Gandhi out of space.
“Huh? Hey, Abe, get up!”
“…What…?” Abe said groggily, wiping saliva off of his mouth with his sleeve.
“It’s time for lunch man!”
“Did you take any notes?”
“Do I ever?”
“You’re right, that was a stupid thing to ask of me.”
The two talked as they headed to lunch. They sat down at their usual seat.
Abe noticed that Gandhi wasn’t eating anything today.
“What’s up with you? Aren’t you gonna eat lunch?”
“Nah, it’s this medicine, man. It’s messing with my appetite. My parents said it’s…adderall or whatever…”
As they were talking, the two heard a voice from behind them.
“Mind if I sit here?”
The two looked up and saw a kid they hadn’t met before, he seemed to be a freshman. He had long, dark brown hair, pale skin, and was wearing a black coat with round shades.
“My name’s Ozzy. This is my first year here, I’m trying to make new friends.” He spoke in a soft voice, sounded somewhat like a contralto, it seemed like his balls hadn’t dropped yet.
“Sure, dude! You’re Ozzy Osbourne, right?” Gandhi asked.
“Yeah.” He said shyly, blushing some. “You’re the kid with the ADHD, aren’t you? I don’t know why everyone acts like you have some sort of deathly contagious virus, it just means you’re different. Nothing wrong with that.” The more he spoke the more slurred and quiet his words became.
“Uh, could you repeat that last bit?” Gandhi tilted his head in confusion. Ozzy’s eyes widened for a moment and darted to the floor.
“Dang it! Ahh, sorry! My words run together sometimes…” he cleared his throat and repeated himself.
“Woah…you’re one of the few kids here to not treat me like an outcast!” Gandhi said after Ozzy repeated.
“I know what it’s like. I was only copied recently…my clone father passed away only last year.”
“So, does that mean you’re less than a year old?” Abe asked.
“Eh…sort of? I mean, I’m technically 14, but that’s because of some…weird…sciencey whatevers, I couldn’t tell you how it works.” Ozzy explained.

What had really happened is that The Secret Board Of Shadowy Figures had given the Ozzy clone genetic modification, making him age up to 14 while in biostasis.

”Is that why your voice is so high still?” Gandhi asked, making Ozzy’s eyes narrow. ”What, I was just asking!”

”Anyway, I’ve heard you two are friends of Joan Of Arc, yeah? Could you maybe-“

before Ozzy could finish his sentence, Abe interrupted him.

”Yeah, hold that thought for a second.” Abe pushed Ozzy backwards slightly as Cleo walked over, giving Abe a wink.

”Hey, Abe.~” Cleo grabbed Abe’s arm. “Mind if I sit here?”

”y-YeAH! Sure, thing, Cleo!” Abe moved back so she could sit with him, making Ozzy move down a seat.

Ozzy sighed and rolled his eyes. “Hello? I wanted to talk to you about Joan-“

And still, Abe didn’t pay attention to a word he said.

After a while, Ozzy stood up and took his tray to throw it in the trash. ”Right, well, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be leaving now. See you blokes tomorrow.” He put one hand up to wave before walking out of the cafeteria.

Gandhi couldn’t help but wonder where he was going, so he soon followed. “Hey, Oz! Wait up! Did we upset you?”

”I’d rather not be followed right now…!” Ozzy called out, not looking behind him, beginning to walk faster.

He lost track of him and stood still, pondering for a moment.

”How are we gonna make it up to him?” Gandhi asked himself.

But the more He thought about it the worse he felt.

———

Ozzy had Joan in a few of his classes. He didn’t know a whole lot about her, but he knew that he wanted to know more.

The class was doing a group project today, and him and Joan were paired up. Their assignment was to see how many seeds they could pick up with certain objects, like tweezers or a pipette.

Joan and Ozzy didn’t really care for this project though.

”Joan, right?” He spoke up.

”Yeah…hi…” Joan looked over at Ozzy briefly before setting her gaze on Abe, who got partnered with FDR and Satoru Iwata.

Oz could tell Joan liked Abe somewhat, given that dreamy, clouded look in her eyes.

”You like him or somethin’?” He asked. This caused Joan to look back at him again.

”Who?”

”Lincoln.”

”Oh…uh…yeah, I do.”

”Don’t you guys sit next to each other sometimes? Why is it only every so often?”

Joan sighed at the question. “He just…makes me mad sometimes. I like him a lot, but he doesn’t get it! I’ve been giving him hints, telling him up front that I want him, but he just…isn’t seeing the signs.”

Ozzy’s brows furrowed as Joan vented to him. Abe didn’t seem all that bad when they talked, though, he’s seen all of this from a distance, so he has a brief extent of understanding. That was the main reason he wanted to leave lunch so quickly. “He’s a fool for choosing that Cleopatra chick over you. You seem great, Joan.”
