Owain still doesn't get it

Summary:

"Mage Scott you went to the masquerade last night, correct,"

Scott sat shocked for a moment before answering with a yes.

"I thought so," Owain nodded at the confirmation, "Then answer me this, were you attacked last night by chance?"

The table was silent as Scott sat blinking rapidly.

"No? why would you think that?" He asked touched that the Knight was concerned for him but confused on what lead him to that conclusion.

"Your neck," Owain said gesturing to the side of his neck, "It's covered in bruises."

This is a really fluffy flowersmith fic set during and after the Masquerade, with a bit of Owain and his wonderful obliviousness.

Work Text:

Scott giggled as he and Nom broke apart for air they, had found themselves in one of the kingdoms broom closets not long after the fireworks had gone off.

While others had held back on taking their masks off, Strength had grabbed Death by the hand and lead them to a secluded corner before removing his mask, Death had laughed, bright and bubbly, before taking his own mask off, and well…. one thing lead to another.

Nom went back in stealing greedy kisses from the flower mage, who hadn't quite gotten rid of his giggles.

"How were you Death?" Nom asked, looking down at Scott fondly as he held his lover.

"Maybe you should ask Graecie that later," Scott responded, pressing himself closer to Nom to bring the knight in for another kiss.

They continued like that, pushing to be closer to the other, bringing them down for a kiss before breaking apart to giggle.

Eventually when the two were so tangled up in each other Nom broke apart again.

"Scott I need to ask you something," He said, Scott hummed in acknowledgment, staring through lidded eyes at Nom.

"well, I've wanted to ask for a while and tonight felt right so," Nom cleared his throat, as he adjusted his hold on Scott's waist, it was clear the knight was nervous for his next words, "Scott Springwell, I would love nothing more then to bring you home and take you to bed with me,"

Scott felt his face turn red at the proposal.

He and Nom had been together for a while now, going out on small picnic dates, sharing kissing and cuddling at night, sure Scott had wondered what it would be like to sleep with Nom on multiple occasions, but he would never dare ask in fear of messing up what they had, but Nom had asked, and he was nervous to ask, and Scott realized as his silence only went on the knight grew more nervous.

"We- we don't have to," Nom begun, his nerves finally getting the worse of him, "If you don't want to we can pretend i never said anything and go back to what we were doing before-"

Scott lend up and captured the dragons lips with his own to silence him.

"I would love to accompany you to bed," Scott responded when he broke away.

The smile that graced Nom's face was infectious as he squeezed Scott impossibly closer.

"So then what are we waiting for?"

"You to let me go," Nom chuckled as he kissed Scott one last time before letting the poor half elf go.

"Oh!" Scott said as he replaced the mask on his face, "We must say goodbye to Temperance first!"

From behind the mask Nom gave the mage a pout,

"Must we?"

Scott rolled his eyes as he grabbed a hold of Nom's hand, opening the door as he did so.

"Yes, it's courtesy that you say goodbye,"

"But can't we pull the good old Blue kingdom goodbye and just leave?" Nom question as Scott lead him through the ballroom looking for Temperance.

"Well, considering the Fae magic on these mask I think it best if we be polite guests and say goodbye," Nom let out a sigh as they made their way back up to the rooftop gardens where most guests remained, including, luckily, Temperance.

As the two started towards her, when Scott heard cheering from the benches.

"Death!" Justices cried out, he had a bottle of Ambrosia in one hand and his other arm was looped around the Priestess who also had a bottle of Ambrosia in her hand,

"Are you still doing that nice hangover cure?" The golden man asked swaying on his feet, The Priestess gave a small shove at him only causing the two to stumble more.

"NOooo," She moaned, taking a sip from her glass, " 'M don't wan' cure,"

"Ah," Scott said, stopping just in front of the fountain, facing the two drunk people, "Sorry, I'm leaving for the night, no more hangover cure,"

Justice groaned while the Priestess cheered with an "I'll drink to that!" that was accompanied by a cheer from the Hermit as the two downed their bottles of Ambrosia.

"Well, I guess that means we should stop drinking for the night," Justices' comment was accompanied by multiple people booing him as he lead the Priestess back to the benches.

"Everyone is gonna have one hell of a hang over," Nom commented idly, as Scott turned to face Temperance,

"Temperance," Scott called out, getting the others attention who turned towards the two with a smile.

"What can I do for you two?" She asked as Nom and Scott came up to her.

"Me and Strength were leaving for the night, and just wished to inform you," Scott said, with his hand still in Nom's, Scott could feel the others want to leave, but his Mother had taught him the proper way to leave a fae party, "Tonight was perfect and you were a wonderful host, we greatly appreciate the invitation."

Temperance smiled, a soft simple thing.

"I appreciate your attendance, and I'm glad you two had a good time."

Scott opened his mouth to respond but cut himself off with a yelp as he was picked up bridle style.

"Yes, thank you, it was a great time we will be off now," Nom then turned away from Temperance and fled down the stairs, ignoring the playful hits from Scott.

Graecie stood in the court yard thinking, while the point of the masquerade was to come as you are not what you are expected to be, and anonymity played a big role in that, she had been the one to write the invites and give everyone their titles, and she wanted to make sure her friends wouldn't do anything they would majorly regret in the morning.

So she thought back to the invites, thought back to who Strength and Death were, and once she remembered, she smiled, they would be fine.

Nom carried Scott all the way to the Well, well, well, saying how it would give them more privacy then the blacksmith or Scott's place, he only let Scott down since he couldn't carry him down the narrow water way of the well, well, well was.

Once at the bottom, Nom took Scott's hand and led him to the little cottage he called home.

The two giggled as they kicked off their shoes and took their jackets off before Nom grabbed a hold of Scott's waist and brought him in for a kiss.

"Are you ready?" He asked once they broke apart.

"Yeah," Scott responded, shifting slightly on his feet, "I'm a little nervous, I've never done this before,"

Scott felt Nom's hold on him tighten for a moment before relaxing again, the knight taking a hold of Scott's face to gently guide the mage to look him in the eyes.

"I'll make sure to take good care of you,"

Scott awoke the next day, slightly sore and cuddled up close to Nom, who was still asleep judging by the gentle rise and fall of his chest.

Scott snuggled in closer to Nom ready to go back to sleep when his eyes caught something white by the window sill, lifting his head just a fraction more Scott made direct eye contact with one of Graecie's doves, which had the most judgmental look he had ever seen on a dove.

Tied carefully around it's neck was a letter.

Scott groaned as he buried his face into Nom's shoulder, in doing so he felt the knight stir.

"Scott?" He asked, keeping his eyes closed as he brought the flower mage in closer to him

"There's a dove here," Scott responded, keeping his face hidden, he felt Nom shifting to look at the window sill, causing Scott's face to be buried in his chest rather then his shoulder.

"W'atta got for me?" He asked, the dove raising a hand to signal to it that he was awake, Scott heard the gentle flaps of the birds wings and felt its feet land on his head, before it flew away again, presumably without the letter it had arrived with.

Scott heard the rustling of paper as Nom opened the letter.

"What does it say?" He asked.

"Graecie says there's to be a kingdom meeting at mid morning."

"And whats the time now?"

"I don't know," Scott was about to propose that they get up and get ready in case the meeting was soon when he felt strong arms wrap around him and pull him closer to Nom's chest.

"But I'm not opposed to staying here and getting some more sleep," Scott honestly couldn't argue, he wanted to, but he would be a liar if he said he didn't want to spend all morning laying cozy with Nom in bed.

"Alright," Scott had just gotten himself cozy against Nom again when another dove came in through the window, this time landing on Nom and waiting for Scott.

With great effort Scott frees one of his arms from beneath Nom and unties the letter.

'Blue kingdom we require your presences, and by Blue kingdom I mean you two, Nom, Scott, it's mid-morning,'

Scott shot up and out of bed, ignoring Nom's grumbling.

"Nom were late to the meeting,"

Nom shot up as well, suddenly wide awake.

"Shit," He swore as he stumbled out of bed, the two rushed around the small space getting dressed quickly, lucky Scott had a few pieces of his clothing at Nom's from the nights he had stayed over before so he didn't need to wear his formal wear, even if he was missing his mothers cloak as well as few other things.

Nom was having a bit of trouble as he tried to get his armour on fast, finally after much swearing and panic, the two managed to leave the well, well, well and rush towards the castles meeting room.

They were the last two to arrive, rounding the corner to the meeting room they were greeted by the rest of the kingdom patiently waiting.

"Took you two long enough," Eloise said giving the two a once over as they took their seats diagonally from each other.

"Sorry," Scott muttered trying to ignore the way Mae's eyes bore into him.

"I was still sleeping," Nom said with a wave of his hand, "Is a man not allowed to sleep after a party?"

Graecie sighed rolling her eyes slightly at her fellow knight.

"Shan drunk thrice as much as you and she was still here on time,"

"AYE!" Shan called out from the other side of the table before folding over to press her head against the cool wood with a groan of 'ow my head', Graecie, ignoring the groans of her poor water mage, clapped her hands together.

"Well since we're all her we can get started,"

As the meeting went on Scott felt Owain staring at him, even from beneath the lion helm, it was making Scott slightly uncomfortable as he wasn't saying anything, just looking.

Eventually the meeting was coming to an end.

"Well unless anyone has anything else they wish to discuss I think we're all good," Graecie said with a bright smile.

"Actually your majesty, there is one thing I would like to ask," Owain said, causing Nom to let out a quite groan as he sat himself back into the chair he had already left.

"Yes?" Graecie encouraged.

To Scott's horror Owain turned to him.

Scott's hand flew up to cover his neck as he felt his face flush red, he heard the others giggling behind him as his eyes darted briefly over to Nom, who looked endlessly amused and equally horrified.

"Right- um- those- they- uh- well- you see," Scott could feel his face heating up more as he stumbled over his words trying to figure out a decent enough lie, as he avoided looking at anyone, his eyes kept catching on Nom, who had slowly lost the horror and simply held amusement, Scott sent a quick glare his way, he knew the knight was covered in scratches and the only reason he wasn't being called out on it was because his armour covered them.

"It's- ahhh," His heart rate picked up as the giggling turned in to laughter, Scott felt his magic wash over him as he turned invisible, which only made the girls laugh harder.

As Owain looked around the table at the laughing girls Scott used this as his chance to leave, looping around the table to Nom first.

"I better not hear you say a word about this later," Scott hissed into the knights ear, which only caused him to laugh harder.

"I would never dream of it," Nom laughed, although he couldn't see it Scott rolled his eyes and placed a kiss on Nom's cheek before leaving the meeting room.
