Chapter Text
The room is quiet, a dull candle flickering on a night stand, the Doctor had only gotten 20 minutes of a turning nap before gun fire echoed from the halls of the Red Base. He did not raise his head, those fools could keep a few at bay without them needing a-
“Fritz!!!” Scout dramatically rumbled his fists against his door before Fritz sat up and took a deep breath. Just then Scout had figured out it was a pull door, not a locked push door.
“DOC THEIR BACK AND WE ARE GETTING OUR ASSES BEAT!”
“Stop your yelling…” Fritz huffed as he pulled his hair back and grinned. “You worry too much, Junge!”
“What?” Scout was practically walking around the room following every turn the Doctor collected sprawled gear. “You are too calm! You act like you can’t be killed!”
The doctor turned and chuckled, shrugging his med-kit on his belt. “Maybe…”
Scout scoffed and began to bounce in place, “C’moooooon!”
As soon as the doctor emerged a not so healthy Heavy hobbled round the corner with his usual scowl. “AH Heavy! Told you he wouldn’t gut me if I woke him up!”
“Not late for him to, Scout.” Heavy scowled holding a rough looking rib.
“Eh?” Scout looks between Heavy and Fritz looking for one to crack a smile that said they were joking.
“Let me help you, mein Freund.” Fritz smiled and Heavy looked at Scout, there's a clear message of understanding between them and Fritz cocked his head. “Well, let me see.”
Scout hopped in and lifted a scraped elbow into the Doctor's face making a distraction. “Can’t you see I'm dyin’ doc?!” He said as Heavy silently turned and hobbled on his way. Before Fritz could deny the scout he raised a brow at the retreating Heavy and huffed.
As they made their way there Fritz couldn’t help but ask; “Is something wrong with the Heavy, Scout? He seems dismissive of me recently, you don’t think I have upset him have you? How will I test out my new experiments- uh.. upgrades … on him now?”
“What can I say, man likes his sand- V-iches.”
By the time they got there everyone was digging into med-kits lying about, Pyro was the first to spot the doctor and scout and skipped over offering a horrifically deformed handshake. Bless their mask and all under it, they are a crazy bitch. Fritz immediately took the handshake.
“Morning to you too, Pyro! Want me to heal that for you?” Fritz had that distant smile of blinking insanity he always had, that is until Pyros form drizzled before him as a blue spy pulled him close and stabbed him in the stomach repeatedly.
“ACK!” The Doctor yelped as he curled over in pain.
“Fritz!” An angry drunk of a Demo-man yelled out as he then snatched the shotgun from Engineer's hands and aimed terribly. It tore through the Spy’s skull yes… but also through poor Fritz's.
“Ahh Shit!” Demo sighed as he received a clip round the back of the head by Engineer.
“Great goin’!” The engineer scowled.
“What happened?!” Spy yelled and leant over Fritz who was now lying flat on his back.
Fritz couldn’t see… he had the worst headache and all he could do was breathe and make spluttering sounds with an open throat. Of course he grew too weak after the first few gurgles.
“What do we do?!” Scout hopped feeling anxious.
“Throw him away. Preferably without Heavy’s help.” The spy coldly mumbled.
“What?” Demo was lifting Fritz partly up but the Doctor couldn’t move himself, couldn’t feel his body.
“The Heavy was still preoccupied when this first happened! Let him respawn, and don’t tell Heavy this happened!” The Spy demanded before the Doctor looked through bloodied lids up at a light above him. He felt his skin begin to burn in agonizing steams on his back before he woke in his bed. It’s quiet again.
Just like before. What was before? A dream? No Fritz has experienced Death once and he was getting ready to negotiate with lovely old Lucy again. He sat up and his hands patted down his face, smooth, perhaps a bit of stubbled skin over his immaculate jaw.
“I DIED?!” He huffed standing up and pacing. “This makes nein sense…”
It then came to him in a blinding headache making him crumble in on himself, “ARGHH” He bit down on his hand and soon Scout walked in and rushed over. “Hey hey hey, Doc! Uh.. you good?”
“Get me that SPY!” He growled as he lifted a less than pleased face.
