Chapter Text
Fox hummed the pink panther theme as he clamored into the ceiling of the penthouse.
do. dodo. dodo dodo dodo do do dodooooooo.
He knew far too much about the senators.
Palpatine was almost certainly not supposed to be spying on senators. This was some sort of breech of power. At the end of the day, though, as long as Fox didn't get caught (at which point Palpatine would probably murder him to dispose of the witness), it was Not His Job.
This was an important distinction because most things were Fox's Job.
Paperwork? Give it to Fox. Spying? Fox can handle that. Running the prison system? Sure, that can be Fox's Job.
Fox considered setting the senate building on fire on a daily basis.
Now, there were other corries who Fox could theoretically delegate too, but that wasn't fair. They deserved time for sleeping and… what did people do with free time? Thorn volunteered. The guard could do that. Also. If Fox was doing all of the Things, then Fox could make sure everything went right.
Fox doesn't remember how Palpatine punishes people, but he has a lot of scars. Besides. Remembering Things about Palpatine is Not Fox's Job.
Fox's job right now was to spy on senator Amidala.
"Fuck." Padmé's voice came from somewhere below the ceiling tiles. Fox, perched on a pipe, leaned in.
"Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Shit, Anakin. What are we going to do?"
Fox peered at the tiles. Either Anakin Skywalker was a lot quieter than he usually was, or he wasn't there.
"Fuck."
Fox listened for foot steps. Only one set. Amidala was alone.
Fox considered. Amidala and Skywalker were in a relationship. He rather wished he could forget how he had learned this fact, like many of his interactions with Palpatine, but no. Apparently not.
Fox really hated spying.
But there was apparently some new information about their relationship.
Fox heard the front door open and close. Amidala had left. Snooping time.
There was a pregnancy test on the bathroom counter. Fox considered this. He examined the result, then the box sitting next to it.
Positive.
Ah.
Fox sighed. Palpatine would want to be called right away. Fox didn't like calling Palpatine. Or talking to Palpatine. Or Palpatine in general.
Fox clicked his com.
"Senator Amidala is pregnant Sir."
"Excellent."
This was exactly what Fox meant when he said he didn't like Palpatine. Besides the abuse of power and angry disposition, the guy was creepy. The fuck was this reaction?
"I want you to keep a close eye on Amidala and Skywalker in the future."
"Yes sir."
"Report back on Skywalker's emotional state."
"Yes sir." Fox hated this old man. Questioning orders was Not Fox's Job. Questioning what Palpatine was planning was Not Fox's Job. But it was very hard not to. Why the fuck did he want to know about a Jedi's emotional state?? It couldn't be for anything good.
Palpatine ended the call.
Fox glared at the counter. Amidala had gotten him caf once, gaining whatever loyalty Fox was capable of possessing. She probably didn't deserve whatever Palpatine was planning.
Fox sighed.
He started combing through his pockets. Thorn had given him a brochure, hadn't he? After a rather lengthy lecture on his volunteer work.
There.
Fox set the planned parenthood brochure just inside the front door (as if it had be slid there by someone outside).
Amidala should know her options.
