Chapter Text
Mars had never been good with feelings.
Or social cues.
Or anything really.
Except for drawing and human history!!!! Gosh she loved history. Almost as much as she loves her friends.
Almost.
...
But recently she's been feeling a different way about her bestest friends of all time.
Not anything bad!
Just... Definitely different.
And she didn't know how to deal with it.
First she tried ignoring it, but she couldn't. Everything they did was so much cuter than usual and when they both leaned over her shoulder, her face heated up so much her helmet fogged up!
Then she tried to avoid them. It was so hard!! She had to spend the whole day with her STUPID brother and his totally not girlfriend.
...
Mars would rather spend time with Razzle and Dazzle than watch Astro and Bassie flirt all day. Or rip her antenne off. Either one would be better than this.
They were talking about what the best flowers to press for Flytes astrology scrapbook page.
Yuck.
That was so much more boring than the talks she and Razzle and Dazzle have. They were always so fun to talk to...
Mars felt herself sigh involuntarily at that. They always made sure she was always included in the conversation, and making sure that it was a good topic so she wouldn’t get bored..
They were awesome!! Like, the awesomest. She didn’t know if there was any other toon in Gardenview that was cooler than them. Other than Shelly i guess.
A familiar voice rang out from close by. “HEY!!!! Astro!!!”
Oh. My. Toon handler.
Razzle and Dazzle half tripped and half bounded towards Astro and Bassie.
Mars ducked under the bench and pulled her antenne down so they wouldn’t peak out.
She held her breath.
They did not. They did not go looking for her.
Razzle’s voice sounded the same, peppy and upbeat. “Have you seen Mars anywhere? Perhaps? Maybe?”
Dazzle’s voice sounded more worried than usual. (“We’ve been looking everywhere…”)
Mars’ heart fluttered at the thought of them looking dutifully for her.
God, she really was in deep huh.
That was a different matter though, Mars had to focus on not letting them find her.
Wait.
She didn't tell Astro that she was avoiding them.
Oh toonhandler if that stupid ho-
Who is she kidding, he totally would.
But before he could answer, Bassie did.
"No.. I'm so sorry, we haven't... We've been here picking flowers the whole time." Bassie put a hand on Astro's blanket(she HOPED it was where his thigh was. Keyword: HOPED.) "I hope you two are able to find her though.."
Note to self: Make a whole shrine to Bassie and her greatness later.
Dazzle sighed, Mars wished she could wipe that frown off his face. "Thank you anyway! We'll try!" Razzle chirped, always the optimistic one.
As they walked away, Mars let out a sigh of relief. As she got up she immediately looked to see if they left and went over to Astro and Bassie.
Astro didn't respond to her getting closer, which, was normal. He had horrible hearing and reaction time. (But curiously, had amazing sight..?)
But finally noticed her when she got right next to him. "I, uhm. Are you... Avoiding those two?"
Mars REALLY didn't want to answer that. "Ehhh... Yeah..." Mars scratched her knee while she crouched next to them. "I am.."
Astro looked slightly scared(or something else) when she confirmed his question. "Uhm.. What happened..?"
"Nothing! Nothing happened." Mars shook her head but Astro didn't look very comforted. "Knowing you.. You probably did something bad."
Mars pulled on one of his wings. "You meanie!!" Astro winced and leaned closer to Bassie, basically resting his head on her shoulder.
"I didn't do ANYTHING. I'm just... Taking time for myself." Astro looked at her with his weary eye. "Taking time for yourself? I call fool. Everything you do is about them or history.."
Mars didn't have anything to say to that. He wasn't technically wrong..
"Well I'm off!" Mars said awkwardly as she stood up. "Have fun on your dateeeeee~"
"It'S NOT A DATE!!!" Mars heard Astro yell as she left for the elevator.
Bonus:
As Astro saw his little sister walk away to the elevator Bassie stroked his thigh again. "I could tell something was off.. Those three spend everyday together.." Her voice hummed throughout him as he leaned against her shoulder. His wings on the sides of his moon fluttered in contentment.
As he sifted through the flowers and Bassie said what would look best in the top left corner, her hand moved higher up his thigh.
Astro didn't think anything of it, yet he did think that this wasn't going to be about flowers for long.
Astro forgot to change back last night. Great. It wouldn't matter anyway, Bassie liked him no matter what gender he was.
As her hand grew closer to the inside of his thigh, Astro couldn't help but make small noises.
"Mgh.. B-Bassie should we be- ah- doing this here..?" Astro put a hand over his mouth to make sure he wasn't too loud.
"Mhm.. It's fine, No one is supposed to be here for an hour or two.." Bassie kissed his neck. "More than enough time for you and me~"
Astro's wings covered his face in embarrassment (excitement). He was in for a treat.
