“I think I’m in love with you and I’m terrified.”
The words spilled from Abe’s mouth in a rushed, nervous muddle, and Mihashi blinked many times, shocked at the confession.
“A-Abe-kun…” He started slowly, softly and choppily, “… l—… loves me…?”
Abe groaned and slapped his hand on his face, cheeks burning.
“Yes.” He peeked open his eyes, and Mihashi jumped a little, his heart racing in his chest. “And I’m afraid.”
“W-Why?” Mihashi blurted out, his hands already trembling. He jumped at his own volume, even when Abe stared at him with wide eyes. Mihashi swallowed and fixed Abe with determined eyes. “W-why… why are… y-you.. afraid…?”
Abe swallowed and dropped his hand, looking at his feet and back up again.
“I don’t know if you’ve noticed, Mihashi, but I feel like I scare you a lot, and hurt you.” He spoke with a strained voice, as if he was finally realizing how much he hated himself for what he constantly did. “I don’t want to hurt you.”
“You won’t!” Mihashi blurted out, stepping forward—possibly by accident, from his own excitement. Abe tensed slightly but didn’t step away; he liked how close they suddenly got. “I, I mean, I…”
Mihashi struggled to find the right words to convey his feelings.
“I… I trust you, Abe-kun.”
Abe’s throat tightened and he wanted to cry. He reached forward, yanking Mihashi close to him and burying his face in Mihashi’s messy hair.
Mihashi gasped a little, clinging to Abe’s shirt as Abe embraced him lovingly.
“Thank you,” he whispered, his voice cracking with the emotion. “Thank you, Mihashi.”
