Chapter Text
Dr robby robinavitch was a sweet man. it had been a few months since the newbies joined the pitt, and admittedly he had been sleeping with dennis whittaker. last night was one of those nights. dennis had been asking to date, to the deny of robby because it would ‘affect the workplace relationship’ dennis protested usually with something about they’ve already seen everything. though robby was starting to give in, after all he had the best sleeps when he was spooning dennis. the man had left in the early morning to get back to his (trinitys) place, robby stirred when he realized he was alone. he sighed as he cracked his old joints and scratched his stubble. getting up early wasn’t a problem for him, he liked the pitt enough anyways. the usual routine was in place and he got onto his stupid motorcycle, driving to his hospital. not too long until he can go on a vacation. shame his boy won’t be with him
normal day. that was most days for him. he scanned the hospital as he clocked in, chatting with his good bud dr abbot.
he wonders where whittaker is? no. that’s stupid, he’s much too worrying
20 minutes - the hospital was running. everyone showing up. perhaps the boy was too tuckered out to show up.. still not allowed
“santos!” he calls out, she turns around and rotates her head like a dog. “have you seen whittaker?” he questions “no, he got a ride. shouldn’t be long though, left soon after me” she answers. now not looking at him and sorting out papers “alright thanks. first time for him to be late.. shame.”
he sighs slightly.
it’d been 40 minutes too late. 10 ~ minutes was acceptable enough for the newer people to not get a long lecture from robby. couldn’t be traffic and trinity confirmed he left the building. robby was annoyed of course, couldn’t be too hard for the farm boy to leave a message surely. whatever, he needs to get back on track.
the crew of the pitt works and prepares, the board slowly filling up as dana and head doctors ask for orders. langdon was the first person to see the large men carry out a bloodied mess on a gurney. he didn’t have much time to address and get the rest of the team of course. dr javadi and mckay follow with the men pushing the person into the emergency room. “christ, what happened? can’t even see em” mckay asked. there was blood everywhere, you could barely assess the wounds producing it. “car crash. pulse is weak” “yeah.. yeah okay, let’s stop the bleeding!” she ordered.
langdon was the first to notice the face. “is.. doesn’t it.. whittaker?” he stutters, the words coming out weirdly. “hm? whittaker should be coming in soon” javadi answers, quickly working at the man. “no- fuck! whittaker!” he wipes the blood away at the face, puffy and gushing. franks heart is dropped.
“oh.. oh my..” javadi squeals, terrified look on her face. she freezes in place, god the injury is really fucking bad.
“guys get in here!” langdon barks, quickly working to prepare the young man
dr robby rushes in, he’s much used to coding patients and heavy emergency’s. perks of the job he supposes. “what we got?” he asks
“you’re.. you’re gonna wanna see this doctor.. it’s real bad” langdon breathes out. he could’ve sworn his vision was getting blurry so he moves out of the way.
. . .
“god damn.. hey, is that..”
. . .
“is that…”
“whittaker” javadi sheepishly replies, scared out of her mind of course. she was always one to handle situations like these nicely but this was different. dennis whittaker, the sweet southern boy, is bloodied and broken in the emergency room. robby eyes go wide as his heart drops. his sunshine boy is lying there, unconscious.
“we need more fucking people in here!” he barked, scared and anxious. now’s not the time to have a panic attack robby.. just fix him . . . you can fix this.
his internal thoughts are crazed and blurry, he honestly doesn’t remember how to be calm and collected. the squish of hypodermic wounds, the cracking of glass and metal shards scratching inside the skin. most people were in the room, cleaning wounds and assessing everything to do. truly it was bad. the young man’s face was swollen, shards and cuts into his face. there was open gashes of wounds, some hypodermic, looking like beans and flesh and some superficial yet still bloody. car crashes were terrible to deal with. once they finish the stitching and preparation they need to x ray, MRI, and so many tests he can’t name right now.
whittaker’s pulse was still good. it had been say an hour? it’s all blurry to robby. the beeping of machines and chattering of employees was getting to him. he can’t do this again. . . not again. he must’ve looked intense as dana had gave him an out for a second, collect yourself she said. he couldn’t do that to whittaker of course, he needs to be there.
two hours. two hours of whittaker fading away. dr robby needed to be professional. he’s calm and collected. this shouldn’t be different because robby can fix this.
- 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐩 . . . 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐩 . . . . 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐩 . . . . . - the continuous sound was followed by one, long, automated machine beep. robby immediately snapped out of his panic to look at his boy.
flatlining. whittaker was flatlining.
