Missing Puzzle

Summary:

Galvatron, Cyclonus and Scourge split up the army to search for energon

Cyclonus had to remain in the base and starts to miss his Unicronian comrades.

Notes:

It's been a while since I wrote a fic! Really missed it so I had to write something for my favourite Unicronian trio.

Work Text:

The Decepticons on Chaar have been complaining more and more about the lack of energon. Of course, it wasn’t said directly to their leader, Galvatron. He could get mad so easily, even at the smallest things and explode at anyone, even those who were not involved. It was like walking on eggshells with a ticking bomb in the room.

Things didn’t used to be that way back then when he was still Megatron but either way, it didn’t quite matter anymore. It wasn’t worth it looking back at the past during the golden age.

One day, being forced to retreat after a battle with the Autobots, Galvatron was furious. His perfect plan went askew and blamed everyone for it until someone at last confronted him.

“But Galvatron! We are barely functioning without any sort of fuel. We’ve been telling you about this!”

While that poor bot ended up in the medibay, Galvatron for once understood the point. It was decided, the Decepticons would go search for more energon. One group could search certain caves while a third section would explore other planets. The rest were to stay at the base in case of anything happening.

For better control, Galvatron assigned Cyclonus and Scourge for each of the group. Of course, as he was the leader himself, he chose to go explore other planets. His favourite activity. Scourge was sent to the caves with the Sweeps and some other Decepticons with good senses to be able to track in darkness. Cyclonus being the second-in-command was best suited to discipline the Decepticons on Chaar.

Cyclonus had patience. A lot of it, perhaps even too much. Although as much as he was capable of waiting, not having the presence of his comrades near him for longer periods could… cause stress.

The thing about the Unicronians was that they all shared a specific personal bond between each other. Something any regular Cybertronian made by Primus wouldn’t understand. Sure, they had their own system around partners such as Conjux Endurae. Hearing some Decepticons at some point talk about it in certain conversations, Cyclonus has always found it rather silly.

The bond he had together with Galvatron and Scourge was completely different. Something much closer to the point of being able to feel each other’s emotions to a certain extent. If one would end up dying, the other two wouldn’t be able to handle it mentally and physically. Begin to decay.

This kind of relationship was more similar to something the Cybertronians called sparkbonding. Quite a taboo topic due to the potential risks a sparkbond could lead to. There have been instances of weak bots not being able to handle such strong energy and ended up injured. Other bots on the other hand couldn’t imagine the idea of being bonded to life, to always feel the presence of their partner at all times near their own spark. Especially if they weren’t sure about the relationship they were getting themselves into

Of course, that wasn’t a problem for the Unicronians. They were different, not only by appearance but also the fact that they were creations made to destroy led by Unicron’s chains and prison. Something Galvatron had a lot of issues with and despite Unicron’s defeat having taken place a long time ago, the herald still got anxious whenever anyone mentioned Unicron.

Now Cyclonus was pondering too much. His orders from Lord Galvatron was to discipline the Decepticons on Chaar in case of anything and not sit around and think. Although the Decepticons didn’t seem to be doing any sort of trouble for now. Mostly engaging in conversations or playing some Cybertronian puzzle games. They were more relaxed without Galvatron around.

Although that wasn’t acceptable. They had to always be alerted so they could be ready if any sort of ambush would happen.

“What are all of you doing? Lord Galvatron was clear about his orders. Protect the base. His word is our command.” Cyclonus said strictly.

Some Decepticons stood up from the table with respect while others remained.

“Come on, Cyclonus. Soundwave is the one handling the alarms. If something happens, we’ll be ready.” Swindle shrugged.

“Wanna join us?” Octane asked, “You’re always so stiff, a game wouldn’t hurt.”

Cyclonus scowled but came closer… for research purposes.

“We used to play it a lot back on Cybertron. You stack a small tower with the blocks and go rounds by taking out the middle bricks without making the tower fall and put it on top.”

“What is the purpose of this… game?” Cyclonus blinked.

“Well, don’t make the tower fall or you’ll lose.”

“Does the one that fails this objective get punished?”

Some Decepticons snickered and Swindle replied this time, “It’s just a game Cyclonus. Don’t you ever do anything fun with at least Scourge? He is usually quite laid-back, eh?”

Well, thinking of it, they did have certain activities they engaged in. Lord Galvatron liked to spar or go conquer other planets. Cyclonus liked to be around his Lord. Sometimes when needed, he would always watch him recharge whenever Galvatron needed assistance during troublesome nightmares.

Scourge on the other hand enjoyed looking around for sparkly trinkets when traveling outside of Chaar. He was always happy to sneak around and catch prey such as small weak creatures. Although Cyclonus never really understood that because when Scourge managed to catch it, he would simply release it and try to go catch it again. But whatever made Scourge happy, made Cyclonus feel joy as well.

“I do not think I am interested.”

“Can we continue play at least?” Astrotrain asked.

Cyclonus squinted his optics, “If at least half of you will go on patrol.”

“All of you that lost can go. Shoo! shoo!” Swindle waved a few Decepticons away as they groaned irritatedly and left.

Cyclonus left the hallroom and went to sit down somewhere on his own. Usually his posture was perfect but now he was hunched forward with his leg bouncing up and down. He still hasn’t heard anything from Galvatron and not even Scourge. Galvatron did not want any distractions so calling him wasn’t ideal. He tried calling Scourge too but in deep caves the signal cut off easily so Cyclonus had to be by himself.

Time passed and there was nothing. Of course, he respected the fact that such adventures could take time but not that long. He couldn’t do it, he needed his comrades.

.:Lord Galvatron?:. Cyclonus dared to call him.

He waited and waited until he finally got an answer, .:You are being impatient. I get it if it’s Scourge but you?:. Galvatron answered and Cyclonus could imagine the disappointment in his face.

At least he knew that he was safe so he waited.

____

There was an alert. Someone was coming to Chaar. The Decepticons readied themselves and went outside with their weapons. Although instead of firing, they smiled widely. Scourge and several Decepticons.

Of course, the Decepticons on Chaar were happy to see that the ones that came from the caves were all without big injuries. As soon as Scourge went out of the spaceship, he immediately bolted and leapt into Cyclonus.

“Scourge! Oh, how great it is to see you!” Cyclonus patted his back.

Scourge dug his claws into Cyclonus and smiled, “When I left the cave, I saw that you’ve been calling me. Sorry Cyc, there was no signal.”

“I figured… Did you manage to find some energon?” He looked at Scourge, still holding him in an embrace.

“Oh, yeah. The caves were like labyrinths with energon here and there. I also found something for you.” He smiled, “Come.”

As some bots were carefully taking out the energon from the ship, Scourge passed them by to get inside while leading Cyclonus by holding his servo.

“Okay, so this cave had lots of different crystals and on the deeper levels, there were these ones that reminded me of you.” Scourge said and opened a box.

Cyclonus tilted his head to the side, looking at each of the crystals. They were pink and purple and some of them were more blue-ish as well.

“I also got some for Galvatron and myself. Sorry, they are a bit mixed up but I can help picking out all of your shades and hang them up in your berthroom.”

“That is very thoughtful of you. I appreciate your gesture. Perhaps I am asking for too much but may I have one crystal in Galvatron’s shades and one in your shades?”

Scourge raised an optical ridge, “Sure, here.” He was about to pass several ones but Cyclonus quickly stopped him.

“Only one of each. Thank you once again, Scourge. I am very grateful for your gifts.” Cyclonus nodded with respect.

While all the other pinkish-purple crystals could hang and sparkle in his room, he would have the deep purple and blue one near his berth. That way he could always be close to his comrades no matter how far away they were.

____

The base was still quiet without Galvatron despite the presence of more Decepticons and Sweeps. At least Scourge was here so it was already better than before. Although Cyclonus couldn’t help but think of the beautiful voice belonging to his Lord-

“Cyclonus!” A screechy voice bombarded through the hall.

The jet almost jumped but not out of fear but out of surprise and excitement. He turned around and there he was, standing by the door frame with his servos on his hips and a deep frown. Galvatron.

Before Cyclonus managed to say anything, he got tackled to the floor in an instant. He was pinned by the weight of his Lord and all the Decepticons in the room quickly escaped before they would be the next ones to be punished.

Although in reality, Cyclonus knew he wasn’t punished. This was just Galvatron’s way of greeting.

“My Lord! Almighty Galvatron! Oh, how the wait was wearing me out. My Warlord, my only true Leader, my-”

“Tch, you really missed me that much, eh?” Galvatron smirked and proceeded to rub his face into Cyclonus’ chassis, right where his thrumming spark lied.

The jet smiled and wrapped his arms around Galvatron, wanting to have him as close as possible so he wouldn’t leave his second-in-command again. Unfortunately, Galvatron was quick to retreat and stood up.

“So, where is Scourge? Or did he get stuck in one of the caves?” Galvatron looked around.

“No, my Lord! He came back quite a while ago, he should be in the base.”

“Perfect, let’s go greet him too then!” Galvatron bared his sharp teeth in a wide smile.

____

“Scourge? Scouurgeee!” Galvatron called out playfully, “I know that you can hear me!”

He kept looking around until his red glowing optics fixated into one dark corner and grinned. Despite Scourge trying his best to remain still and quiet, Galvatron still managed to leap right into him and pin him down to the ground.

“Ack! Galvatron! I-I’m sorry!” Scourge covered his face in panic.

Galvatron cackled and took Scourge into a soft embrace, “Nonsense! What would you be apologizing for if you found so much energon?” He patted Scourge’s back in circles.

The body of the Sweep commander relaxed and he leaned into Galvatron’s crook of the neck cables.

“Hello Galvatron.” Scourge greeted quietly and reciprocated the hug, wrapping his big wings around Galvatron like a blanket.

“My Lord, Scourge has something for you.” Cyclonus interrupted.

Galvatron looked at Cyclonus then back to Scourge, “Oh?” He smiled.

Scourge chuckled nervously, “Yeah, let me just take it from my room.”

The warlord nodded and stood up, letting Scourge free as he waited. Just as expected, the tracker came back just as quick and stumbled around a bit with a box in his servos.

Galvatron immediately snatched it from Scourge’s grasp and excitedly opened the box. Purple sparkling crystals.

“I wanted to hang them in your room but I needed your permission first.” Scourge shrugged, “They glow in the darkness so maybe they could help you recharge better.”

The purple mech was overjoyed and put his servo on Scourge’s center of his chassis, exactly where his spark was situated. Through the connection, he sent waves of warmth and appreciation towards Scourge and never took his optics off his comrade.

Scourge retracted his claws to carefully take a hold of Galvatron’s servo and smiled. Unfortunately, the lord was quick to back away just like with Cyclonus.

“Hmm, what do we say about sleeping in the same berthroom all together today?”

Both Cyclonus and Scourge smiled happily and nodded.

____

Of course, Galvatron’s room was the biggest so they decided to sleep there. Galvatron lied in the middle while Cyclonus on his right side, cuddling him. Scourge on the other hand, while by himself he always slept upside down on the ceiling, this time it was more comfortable to sleep together with his comrades. Cuddling Galvatron from the left side and wrapping his wings around both Cyclonus and their Lord.

Oftentimes having so much weight on top of Galvatron made him distressed although this time, it felt like a heavy comforting blanket. The room was dark except for the faint warm glow of the crystals hanging around. What made him even calmer was the humming mechanics from all three, synchronizing with each other.

At last, he could sleep. Perhaps such sleepovers should be done more often. They lived on the same planet after all.
