Chapter Text

The hospital was holding a conference for all of its employees, in order to catch them up on the latest research. This month's theme was Broken Heart Syndrome, which felt very appropriate to what Sandra Wilkins was feeling. She had tried flirting with Dr Jones, complimenting him on his stupendous surgical skills. Maybe she shouldn't have done so whilst he was operating on someone, but she couldn't help herself. He had looked so handsome in the light of the operating room, blond hair shining like polished gold.

Hoping to behold such a lovely view again, Sandra picked a seat in the 5th row away from the stage, which allowed her to look like she wanted to know more about the topic while also not making her look like a creep. She had brought her friends along, Mary and Jane, who were talking about an anime show she didn't care to find out.

Presently, the conference began.

Slides after slides were displayed onto the projector screen, while a lecturer lectured. She found it fascinating that a broken heart was an actual medical disorder, it sounded like it was something she was only used to finding in the Korean rom-coms that she enjoyed watching. Now, it was Dr Jones' turn to speak on the topic.
Jones' eyes were filled with pain and his words filled with sadness as he presented the topic in his lovely alto voice.

'It must be painful, speaking on a topic that affected you. Poor Doctor Jones,' surmised Sandra. If only she could remove his pain and comfort him. She felt that it was so cruel of Dr Addams to leave him, right after their son died in the accident. She spitefully hoped that Dr Addams was happy that she left him in such a sad state.
Her thoughts remained in such a fashion until the dismissal for lunch break.

Still thinking of how mean Addams was, she glanced towards the blonde head 2 rows ahead of her, posture straight and glasses perfectly perched on her nose. The woman had turned towards the exit, which was behind Sandra, a few rows to her right side, and she briefly glanced at her. When their eyes met, she wore a cold look on her face, and she gave her a small nod.

Sandra was flabbergasted. Here she was, a mere nurse, who would have likely never met Dr Veronica Addams, given their vastly unrelated roles in the hospital, and all she had gotten was a death glare. "Game on," she thought. "I'd do better with him than you ever did." The line to the exit had cleared by then. She turned away from Addams and left the conference room, head tilted upwards with perhaps misguided arrogance.
