This has been the best season for the sharks. Not only did they make playoff again, they made it to the finals for the first time since the 2015-16 season; almost ten years. Here they are, against the Tampa Bay Lightnings, face to face. Will is on Mack's left, and Graf on the right. The puck drops, Mack wins the faceoff. They fought hard during the 1st period, 0-0, it's anyone's game.
Back in the locker rooms, Mack immediately looks for smitty, pushing past Toff and his praises. Toff is messing with him because he knows exactly what Mack is about to do; it's been happening between every period for three years now.
“Mackie, hey superstar,” will’s smile brightening, wet curls stuck onto his forehead. “God you are so perfect Willy.” Mack now closing the space between them, pulling Will in, tucking his curls behind his ears and then, their soft lips collide, perfectly messy. Something they have mastered over the years, avoiding everything to see each other and escape the game environment. They felt comfortable whenever they were alone, and planting kisses.
Will pulls away from the kiss, no air left in him. No matter how many times they kiss, he is left breathless. “Let's go baby, let's win this cup together” Mack presses a kiss onto Will’s forehead and walks back out into the team area, leaving Will alone. Once Will is sure Mack is out of sight, he pulls out the red box he hid earlier.
‘We really need this win Mackie, I need to do this tonight I can't wait any longer.’ Will puts back the box where it was and ran out to get ready for the second period.
They were now 17:35 into the last period with a score of 3-3, they still have a chance to win the cup. Mack's lineup was hopping the boards, they were ready to score and take home the cup, and Will wanted that to, but there was something bigger in play if they win. On the ice they were electric, Will found Mack in the slot without even looking for him, the puck, now on Mack's stick is flying into the net; deflected. Will skates up to the rebound, fakes a pass to Mack and shoots…..
The buzzer roars as Mack runs to Will and jumps into his arms. “You did it Willy, I think you might have just won the game for us” Will was gleaming with joy, but it was not over yet, there was still a minute and 45 left. The sharks defended their zone as if their life depended on it (it pretty much did). With 30 seconds on the clock, Mack's line was back in the rink, all they needed was 30 seconds and then they could have their glory.
The buzzer sounds. They did it, they won the cup, they won. The bench roared with celebration and as for the crowd, they were euphoric. “Smitty we won holy shit we won the cup!” Mack was also euphoric, honestly everybody was, the whole team ran onto the ice, some even tearing up because the 2029-30 cup was theirs. As everybody settles down, “I'll believe in anything” by wolf parade starts playing; it was Will’s cue. He quickly ran to the locker room to retrieve the small red box he has hidden. He grabs it, tucks it into the back of his uniform, and gets back on the ice with the rest of the team. As everyone around them and the crowd have settled down, Will grabs Mack and brings him to the center of the rink.
“I could take the fire out from the wire”
All the attention shifted to them, the crowd was growing quite, interested in what was about to happen.
Will shifts uncomfortably, but then he remembers his words. “One day, when we are older and have won the cup, I will propose to you on the ice, in front of everyone.” He takes a deep breath and lets the words flow out of his mouth.
“They better put me in the hall of fame for this.” “For exactly what Willy?” “For this. Mackie, since the day I met you in rookie camp, I knew I wanted you in my life, I just didn't know how much I wanted you in my life. I grew with you on the ice and as a person, Mackie, you are my world, my sunshine. I want you in my life forever, I want you to be fully mine. I love you Macklin celebrini, and I want to be with you for the rest of my life.” Will pulls out the red box and opens it; a ring. Mack gasps, tears filling his eyes as Will says “marry me?”
“And you'll believe in anything”
“I’ll share a life and you'll share a life”
All their teammates are in awe at their bravery. The team knew they were dating, but they didn't think they were serious, but here they were, watching Will propose to Mack. “Reavo you owe me 50 bucks” Toff was like their dad so he knew it was bound to happen. “Shut up Toff this is a sweet moment”
Mack is gleaming with joy, the beautiful man infront of him just proposed, the way he kosaid he would a few years back, it meant the world to him. He grabbed Will’s hands and said “Smitty, my beautiful boy, I love you and I too want to be with you for the rest of my life.” Mack grabs Will into a big hug and holds his face. “God I love you so much.”
We've both been very brave walked around with bowed legs
Will was staring at Mack, deep into his eyes, asking for permission to kiss. Mack saw Will’s hesitation, so he tucked a golden curl behind his ear like he always does, and pulled Will’s chin toward him and the rest was a blur because all that mattered is that Mack was Will’s fiancé.
The crowd was erratic. Their favorite ship; Willmack was real, and they were getting engaged. The area was filled with cheerful screams and support. The team was jumping up and down, cheering along with the crowd. “Also, love the song pick, I would have gone for Pony though” Mack teasing will. They laugh together as Will puts the beautiful silver ring on Mack’s left finger. The press was also going crazy, all of them flooded down to the glass, pressing for questions, hungry to be the first to interview the new and first openly gay couple in the NHL.
Toff, Reavo, and Eky were the first to talk to Will and Mack. “Yo I literally called it, but for real congratulations, you guys have some balls.” Toff, now hugging his two babies, who weren't babies anymore. “Yeah, I'm not gonna say I called it, but I had my suspicions, never thought it was serious.” Reavo joining the convo. “Same” added Eky.
At that point, most of the arena was cleared, reporters gave up on their interviews after Cat completely chewed them out. Now they were finally free to move without the attention of the world. Back in the locker room, Asky opened a bottle of champagne and cheered “to the cup, and to the engaged.” “Yeah baby” Eky being the most vocal.
After a good celebration in the locker room, it was time to leave. “Come on baby, let’s go home.” Will was already grabbing his bags. Mack follows Will out to the parking lot, and they get into Will's car, which still has a broken windshield. “For your engagement gift, I’ll fix your windshield Willy.” “About time, only took a ring to get you to fix it.” They laugh together. “So, fiancées huh, I like it” “oh please, I know you love it Mackie.
“I do, fiancée”
“Oh god Mackie, you're gonna say that all the time now.”
“Yes, and you love it too, Willy.”
