What to do in case of AWOL grown-ups? Kidnap siblings, of course

Summary:

Adults are absent in the whole world, leaving the Team to figure out what to do. That was when Robin turned up in the Mount Justice with two small children at his side.
Kaldur had no idea why he decided to be a team leader. Also why Robin was kidnapping children, when legends told of Batman's adoption instinct.

Chapter Text

“Robin, did you kidnap two small children?” raised his eyebrows Kaldur.

“Yes,” Robin proudly nodded, holding hands of two small boys, one of which looked to be a very small 8 year old.

The smaller of the boys started giggling, after which the older one, who smirked at Robin’s reply, looked ready to start fighting everyone on the team who looked at the small one wrong. Robin’s hand slipped to his utility belt, before he stopped himself and hid the two boys partially behind his cape.

Kaldur sighted. He had no idea why Robin of all people would decide that now would be the right time to kidnap two possibly feral children. He did hear stories of adoption instincts from his king, but those were only regarding Batman, not his 13 year old partner in crime fighting.

“Why are they here?” grunted Connor.

“Wouldn’t ya like to know, weather boy,” growled the would-fight-God-and-win one, who also had cape (or wings, Kaldur wasn’t sure), but his seemed to be different shades of red.

“They are my new brothers!” grinned Robin, his grin taking on a sharp edge as he continued talking, “If you hurt them, no one will be ever able to find all of the parts of your body. And Miss Martian, if you try to read their minds, the same goes to you.”

Miss Martian paled.

“Are you being mind controlled?” narrowed his eyes at the new two boys Connor.

Robin calmly stood in front of them, ready to fight back, “Nope, not a possibility for me, from what I’ve heard.”

The red-angry boy let out a few chirps, trills and whistles, the youngest one responding with one chirp, as Robin responded to their noises in kind. They were all, however, watching the team warily. Kaldur faintly remembered all the times, either on or off mission, when Robin started making similar noises before he realised he wasn’t speaking in English (he also thinks he heard Kid Flash use the same language before with Robin, though he wasn’t nearly as good at it as Robin himself and his newly kidnapped siblings).

Kaldur held his hands up calmingly, taking a few steps to get between Connor and Robin’s newly acquired siblings, deciding that the best plan of action would be to get the team to calm down and get some answers, “Robin, may I ask you what are the names of your brothers? And why did you bring them here? Why are they wearing suits? Are they humans?”

“It’s not nice to ask people if they are human,” admonished the smallest of the group, wearing a black cape (wings?), otherwise dressed similarly to Robin but for the coloring (the boy had mostly black color on his suit, except for some silver lines).

Robin once again spoke in that weird bird-like language, looking at the two boys, who nodded and made their way over to Wolf.

That was when Kaldur, Connor and M’gann noticed the lack of defensive or aggressive reactions from the wolf. He seemed rather relaxed and happy at the boys presence, wagging his tail.

“Explain,” growled Connor, shocked over Wolf’s reaction.

“Jeez, can you guys relax? I’m not being possessed or anything, I cannot literally get possessed,” joked Robin.

Probably. He seemed quite sure of his statement. That was worrying. Why did Kaldur agree with being the team leader again?

“Robin, please. This is a serious situation. We still do not know what happened,” he reminded.

“Alright, sorry. Okay. The littlest one in black is Crow and the littler one is Cardinal. They are my younger brothers and they were not yet out of Gotham very much. They are as human as me or Batman,” grinned Robin.

“Are you going to introduce us?” asked M’gann curiously.

“Nah, they already know who you are. But if it puts your minds at ease, I can do the introductions quickly. Hey, Crow, Cardinal, you remember the team, right?” called out Robin.

“Sur’, Rob,” nodded Cardinal, scratching behind Wolf’s ears.

“Wally, Artemis, Kaldur, Connor, M’gann, Wolf, Sphere, Zatanna,” responded Crow from where he was sprawled on top of Wolf.

Just then, a gust of wind blew through the room and a red-yellow wearing hero appeared in the room.

“Hey, Rob, team, we’ve got Happy Harbour covered. Still no adults,” announced Wally.

Then he noticed the way Rob was smirking at him and looked over the room, taking in the shocked faces of Connor and M’gann.

Then his eyes landed on Cardinal, who was still sitting next to Wolf.

“Oh gosh. Okayyy, I’m gonna go see if anyone needs help. I’ve got a written agreement which explicitly said that I’m not to babysit again,” muttered Wally, half seriously, slowly backing away to where he came from.

That was when a small child hugged his legs and he was forced to come to a stop.

“Hey, Wally. You don’t have to babysit, just come join us, we’ve got A’s cookies. And we can help,” sweetly smiled Crow, widening his eyes and tilting his head slightly.

Wally sighed in relief before fondly smiling down at Crow and ruffling his hair.

“Okay, thank you, Crow. Hey, Car. Did you three terrify anyone yet?”

Crow and Cardinal looked at him, the picture of innocence, shaking their heads at the same time. Robin snorted.

“Rob, did you explain to the team why you kidnapped your siblings here?” asked Wally, picking Crow up.

“Yep, already did that,” nodded Robin.

Connor opened his mouth to protest, but he was cut off by Wally, who grinned at Robin’s words.

Wally looked over Robin’s expression, before turning to Cardinal and Crow and making a few noises similar to what was apparently the Bird’s language.

Robin let out an offended squawk when his two younger siblings chirped at Wally.

“Okay, so Rob, our dearest, was worried about his brothers setting up murderous traps for some villains when we fix this,” Wally said in English, vaguely gesturing with his hand around them.

“Batman doesn’t kill,” muttered Miss Martian.

“Yep, Batman does not kill,” smirked Cardinal.

“They also don’t kill, unless in very dire circumstances or self-defense,” said Wally.

“Biting people ain’t against the rule,” muttered Jason absentmindedly.

“True, true,” nodded Tim.

The Team, except for Wally and Robin, exchanged worried looks. Wally and Robin, meanwhile, seemed partially amused and nodded to Jason’s statement.

“Iron is natural,” chimed in Wally.

"So is blood loss,” added Robin.

Kaldur was not paid enough to deal with this.

“May we please go over our ideas for fixing the situation now?”
