Chapter 1: Prologue: the decent into the unkown

Chapter Text

A low rumble was felt underneath Jace. A distant screech of a train. Pulling into the cold gray station.
Not his train, Jace thought. He was sitting with his body pressed against the wall of the train station. A small crate with a black cat next to him. And a duffel bag stuffed with what felt like the entirety of his shortly lived life. Their eyes are a dead green color.

In his long thin fingers is clutched his train ticket. A one way ride into the unknown. Heading to the farthest place he could. A small state near the border of Canada, surrounded by gorgeous forest, mountains, and the ocean. Far from the landlocked Midwest Jace spent his entire life living.
Only recently had Jace's life taken a shit. He had been living with, at the time, his best friend. Someone Jace considered a brother. Had stabbed him in the back and left him with nothing.
Jace felt stuck, on the edge of the cold dark unknown of life. Where did he go, when no one at home wanted him here. A short call to an old friend, his bag shoved full and all the cash he had.
Jace hadn’t said anything. Told no one nothing. He just got his cat, and walked for an hour to this train station.

Jace stared up, hearing the distant chugging of his train pulling into the station. A ticket to Boston and a long bus ride from there. Jace grabbed his bag, throwing it across his shoulder. Gripping the handle of his beloved cat's crate he stands. A small rumble of a hiss emanating from within.

“It’s okay monster.” They whisper to the black cat “we’ll be home soon.” Jace mumbles and heads into the train.
