Work Text:

It was finally New Year’s Eve in Hell, and sinners throughout the Pride Ring were rejoicing and celebrating the end of another long year. Even in a realm filled with the eternally damned, so many people were still coming together for the very end of the year. Of course, since it was Hell, New Year’s Day was chaotic. The burgundy sky above them was scattered in burning ashes—smoke and flames. Not to mention the whirlwind of fireworks that lit up the sky. For the first time in a while, the sky was filled with something that wasn’t just a daunting shade of red, but with all different kinds of flowers. The fireworks were like flowers blooming throughout Hell’s night sky—as Charlie would’ve put it.

While Vaggi wasn’t that much of a fan of the noise that all the explosive fireworks created, she knew her girlfriend—Charlie—adored the vibrant skies above them. The two lovers were outside on the balcony, finally. It took a while for the two to finally escape the crowd that was their friends, and all the other residents of the Hazbin Hotel. It seemed that even the cacophony of fireworks couldn’t compare to the piercing loudness of inside the building. Even now, Vaggi could still hear the muffled yells of excitement and celebration from inside the building. It was expected, the new years would be starting in a matter of minutes

Vaggi sighed a breath of relief, happy that she could get away with all that madness and finally have some time alone with her girlfriend. It was a miracle that the two could even have a moment like this, due to the fact that running the Hazbin hotel had been beyond hectic that day.
Before coming here, Charlie still had her qualms about leaving her friends and the relatives unattended, but Vaggi had reassured her that things would be okay.

They were only mere inches away, with their arms resting along the balcony’s railing. Charlie’s gaze was fixated and arrested at the spectacle in the sky, her eyes lighting up like one of a child on Sinsmas day.

It was so silly, and yet Vaggi didn’t have it in her to look away. Instead of the colourful streaks that stained Hell’s sky, Vaggi gazed at Charlie. They had been together for more than 3 years at that point, and yet Charlie still took her breath away every time she looked at the princess. It was beautiful how the lights reflected in her eyes, and how the wind blew through her hair. Her smile was the widest Vaggi’s seen it in days. She had been so stressed as of late
—with the heavy burdens that came with managing the hotel—and the fallen angel was elated to see her happy like this.

It swelled her heart with affection and adoration towards the girl. Vaggi’s eyes twinkled with deep emotion. Love.
Vaggi considered herself lucky to have spent these past few years with someone amazing and kind-hearted as Charlie. Memories of the two together flashed in her mind. To the very first days they met—the days that she was under Charlie’s care and had fell for her, and her kindness. To the days they had first started out as a relationships. To the trials and tribulations they faced.
Yet here they were, stronger than ever and still together. Charlie had made Vaggi the person she was today, and the fallen angel had felt nothing more than grateful.

All the love in her heart stood right by her side tonight, and she wouldn’t trade this moment for the world.

Subconsciously, she reached out and grabbed Charlie’s hand, and held it against her chest as she got up to face her.
This snapped Charlie out of her exhilarated haze, and she immediately turned to face Vaggi, her face softening as she did.
Still, that smile Vaggi adored so much never left her face, even if it was more subtle.
Charlie’s eyes matched the twinkle in Vaggi’s, and it made the angel’s heart skip a beat.

Vaggi put both of her hands around Charlie’s and pulled the princess closer to her. “Happy New Years, babe.”

Charlie’s smile widened slightly as she lifted her hand to rest it against Vaggi’s cheek. The angel leaned into the touch and let out a soft giggle at how it tickled.

“Happy New Years, Vaggi,” Charlie spoke softly, a stark contrast from the loud booming voice she’d usually have. Vaggi could see the mixed exhaustion exhaustion through Charlie’s lidded gaze,
but she also all the love in her heart staring right back at her.

“I’m…” Vaggi started. She chuckled as she rose her hand to feel Charlie’s against her cheek. She could feel the tears of happiness stifling in her eye, and she couldn’t stop them from falling.
“I’m so happy that you’re apart of my life, you know that?”

Charlie chuckled as she lifted her thumb to wipe away her girlfriend’s tears. She could even feel some welling up in her own eyes as well. Vaggi looked beautiful in this light—she thought. With all the muted vibrant colours on her pale skin, and the way her eyes were lit up.

“Of course I do…” Charlie responded. “I love you, too, Vaggi.”

Then, a surplus of explosions and fireworks could be heard,
again and again, louder and louder with each one that passed. The couple broke apart from each other to admire the vibrant lights above them.
These were the closest things they’d ever get to stars, after all. It was imperative to soak in the moment while it lasted.

The fireworks bloomed and echoed and wailed against the sky, each one bigger and brighter than the last. It was a beautiful sight to behold, and Vaggi instinctively reached out and held Charlie’s hand.

The princess gripped Vaggi’s hand in return twice as hard as she squealed at the sight before them. She would excitedly wave her hand and point her finger towards the sky, yelling things like “Vaggi, look at that one—and that one!!!”
“They’re so beautiful, Vaggi!”

Just like you. Vaggi always thought.

A cacophony of yells and excited shouts could be heard from inside, yelling “HAPPY NEW YEARS.”
Charlie bounced in excitement, smiling from ear to ear. “IT’S FINALLY NEW YEARS, VAGGI!!” She shouted, still never letting go of her hand.
Vaggi laughed and looked up at Charlie, mirroring her excitement. “Happy New Years, Char.” She exclaimed through the loudness of the fireworks. It was hard to yell over the loudness, but the two tried to make it work anyways.
Charlie’s voice was so distinguishable even through all the noise.

Charlie’s eyes widened, and her smile quickly faded. She dropped Vaggi’s hand and held her hands to her head, stressed. Vaggi was shocked at the quick change in demeanor.
“OH SHIT.” She spoke. “We have to get back to the others, I COMPLETELY FORGOT. Imagine the wreck that could be in there right now.”

“And all the drunkards, yikes.” Vaggi muttered. Husk must be having a field day with all the people he had to serve, assuming he wasn’t already hung over himself.
She wonders how he’s faring without Angel Dust.

“Hey, hey, babe.” Vaggi chuckled, with a louder and more reassuring tone. She still couldn’t hold back the smirk that played at her lips. Sometimes, seeing her stress about things like this was adorable. Charlie was always so caring, in that way.

“Look at me.”
Vaggi took both of Charlie’s hands and held them in her own, close to her heart. Charlie obeyed and looked at Vaggi’s way. It was as if her stressed expression faded away ever so slightly, and slowly, it was replaced with something softer and more focused now that she gazed at Vaggi.

“Whatever it is, we can deal with it later. We have to have faith in our friends—that they have it all under control.”
Vaggi knew damn well they probably didn’t. The whole Hotel would probably be a wreck by morning. But Vaggi knew the girl needed a BREAK. She knew that all she wanted right now was Charlie by her side. Not spending the first minutes of the New Year’s tending to some drunken guests.

Charlie smiled at Vaggi, and sighed a breath of relief, more relaxed than before.

“I guess you’re right.” Charlie spoke. “You always are, Vaggi.
You always know what to say.

I love you for that.”

Vaggi’s gaze soften as she looked into Charlie’s eyes. And though the fireworks had died down a bit, she could still see the vibrant, colourful hues in her gaze. Her heart ached with deep affection, and she could feel the warmth spread through her cheeks, as she stared at the love of her life.
She hoped she would see this face for the rest of her life, for the many many years to come.

She wanted nothing more than to stay by Charlie’s side. To fight for her, protect her, and love her forever more.

Vaggi stood closer to Charlie, her warm smile never leaving her face. She reached up and cupped Charlie’s face, as the princess lowered her hands to Vaggi’s waist.
Their expressions mirrored one another’s. One of love and affection, gratitude and longing.
Vaggie brought Charlie’s face closer to her own and closed the gap between them, their lips finally connecting.

They kissed again and again and again under colourful, loud skies. Soft and patient, just like their love for one another.
Tonight they were entwined,

on New Years Day.
