Rayn never thought they were good enough. Maybe in the end this was the biggest point of contention they had with Star.
Star did think Rayn was good enough. Star had so much faith in them that it was sickening.
Was that why they pushed their twin away?
Maybe one day Rayn would permit themselves an answer to that question.
Maybe one day they would let themselves reach back to Star.
Urghhh
So many questions and thoughts had been swirling in Rayn’s mind ever since they decided to give the witch’s teachings a go.
They are still questioning themselves as to even why.
Urghhhhhhh
More questions
Maybe they need to just let themselves be swept by the flow of events, like a leaf on the current of a river.
See where it would all lead.
Who knows maybe this would be the good thing they need in their life right now.
Maybe this would be the thing that connects them back to Star.
After all, out of the two of them, their sister has always been the one more magically adept, more attuned to the power that buzzed in both of them.
Maybe Rayn could seek sanctuary with Star, in their tiny cottage at the edge of the forest, away from Looneymara and all the people here.
Maybe…
But there was something that was drawing Rayn to the small village again and again, keeping them anchored here somehow.
Maybe the witch could help them understand what and then… then, they could leave and seek out Star.
Or maybe it was the witch that had summoned them here.
After that first night of safe, restful sleep a month ago, a lot of the events of the past year came into perspective, finally slotting like puzzle pieces to make a full picture.
Rayn did not like the picture… Not at all.
The more they looked at that picture, the more they could see that they were likely manipulated and led here, to this weird little mountain village.
Wyrd…
And while that did not sit well with Rayn at all, at this point in their life, there was hardly anything they could do about it.
But knowledge is power and going into this eyes open was definitely better than the alternative. So maybe they should just count their blessings and see where all this was going to take them.
And once it was all over, they could go and find Star and try to make amends for running away so many years ago and letting their bond strain.
Maybe it was fate that Star’s cottage was not that far away from Looneymara…
A smack to the back of the head brought Rayn back to the present before they could delve deeper into their troubled thoughts. “Are you here, young one? Pay attention!”
“Sorry, I just… I… I got lost in my head.” Rayn lowered their eyes as pink splotched on their cheeks. They have never been a fan of fucking up.
The smile that played on the plump lips of the woman on the other end of the window dripped in so much mischief that the former thief could easily swallow their tongue.
“Well now… That lovely little head of yours is indeed worth exploring. My, my, I would even venture to say that roaming around the many labyrinths and thought avenues there would be an enlightening adventure. But this would be a journey for another day.”
Rayn swallowed hard. That woman would be the death of them for sure. The way she was looking at them now was almost predatory.
They did a mental cheek slap. They needed to pay more attention or they would be swept away not by a river, but by a tsunami.
“Okay, now that I have your full attention,” the witch purred as if reading Rayn’s thoughts, “let’s get back to the basis of energy conversion…”
