Glint

Summary:

Speaking poorly of the outside world can seem absurd to those who’ve only ever felt candlelight.

Work Text:

Our bodies glint under candlelight.
Some of us shimmer, others shine.
We all sparkle, beside our youngest (he doesn’t really try to take up space).

He’s tasted real sunlight before.
For a long time, I wondered whether there was something oppressive to it, the way candlelight did.

And when I first got here, I thought it did.

That’s changed. Much like our habits of glinting around because we could only get back at humans by sneaking about did.

We take steps without fear of what they can lead to.

I can actually control my time, nowadays. It’s made my sister’s smile brighter, my brother’s voice prouder— It’s made me into someone new.

I wonder what would change about him. About each of us.

I think she would enjoy it most, really. The sunset would compliment her glimmering better than any earthly flame could.

Someday, it’ll be hers to enjoy, too.
