A lifetime of mistakes; only one regret.
Rosa, fourteen and hopeful. “Walk me home?”
Kain, sixteen and full of teenage attitude, flanked by the other dragoon cadets, scoffed. “I’m busy.”
“I’ll walk you,” Cecil offered, much to past Kain’s relief but future Kain’s dismay.
Now adults, Kain watched from the rooftops as Cecil and Rosa snuck off together. They thought themselves hidden in the dark alley as they eagerly kissed, but the moons overhead highlighted their escalating tryst, burning the imagery permanently in Kain’s mind.
Kain considered the moons, wondering if he could ever Jump far away enough to forget.
