Work Text:

The wind blew softly in the early summer weather, the sound of leaves rustling and moving in the tree branches a lullaby in the trio's ears, Tenya, Izuku and Ochako sat quietly by an old, broken tree. The sun prickling at their skin, their school blazers folded besides them.

Ochako's and Izuku's giggles resounded against Tenya's boisterous voice, who was going on about a rant on how the clouds would form abstract figures in the sky and the boundless human imagination, his habit of exaggerated body language showing in the excited motions of his hands.

Izuku stared longingly at the sky, and poked Ochako on her side.

''That one reminds me of you'' he whispered, pointing at a puffy looking cloud, smiling softly.

I'm not that puffy  She wanted to argue, but decided against it, and let the quiet atmosphere remain untouched and the warm feeling of his hand absentmindedly placed on top of hers fill the silence.

She stares at him, smiling, and he stares back at her.

If he sees it, then she can try her best and see it too.

They lay down under the shadow of the tree, picking flowers apart.

Once they had a considerable amount of petals recollected, Ochako leaned over and covered the little mountain with her hand, making the petals float over their heads.

None of them said a word, the distant breeze being the only sound reverberating.

She held a petal bewteen her fingers and placed it over one of Izuku's freckles, then, repeated the action until his cheeks and the bridge of his nose were covered in little, colorful spots.

When she laid back down Izuku took one that floated near him and pressed it cautiously with his finger to the tip of her nose.

She leaves it there.

She runs through U.A's corridors the next afternoon, carrying a hundred petals in her hands. Having spent the last night practicing how to make figures in the air with tiny bits of paper.

There's so many words she wants to shout at him, perhaps she'll end up doing it.

Her heart strummed in her ribcage, she knew exactly what figure she'd display, what words she'd say, and placed all of her hope and soul on destiny's hands.

Turning around corners, going down stairs, closer and closer, she had little patience and time left before he leaves, even though he said he had to wait.

A smile makes it's way to her lips, and she doesn't find herself able to fight it away.

She can't.

She stops in her tracks and peeks around a corner, having spotted Izuku's back in the bike stands, there was someone with him, but she paid no mind and decided to wait until the person were gone.

He leaned on the rail and waited,

Just like he promised.

Shouto stood high in front of Izuku, who was gaping incredously at him, his face undeniably red, probably product of his statement, and his hands grope the rail tighter.

''I...''

''I do too.''

Izuku detached himself from the rail and stood straight, grabbing Shouto's face in his hands

''I do too,'' he repeated himself as Shouto's hands- shaking softly, placed themselves on his waist, smile wobbling, and he leaned forward, closing his eyes.

Shouto met him somewhere in the middle.

The smile fell off of her face, and the petals escaped from her grip, taken away with the wind, her eyes welling up with tears

Maybe she'll stay low

And with that, she turned and ran the opposite side.

She lets the petal that Izuku gave her fall out her window that night, and then quietly closes the window, careful to make as little sound as possible when she slips into bed again, hiccupping.

Tenya's arms are good for hugs, she thinks, days later. Recalling when Izuku told them of his new partner, nervously mentioning how happy and lucky he felt for having him as his ''boyfriend? date? partner? we- we have yet to figure it out''  earlier that day.

Silence embraces them as she grips his waist tighter, the sound of rustling of fabric and their muffled breath taking over in the room.

He strokes her back, soothing.

Things go back to normal a week later, not that anyone noticed a change in her behavior to begin with.

Izuku grins and waves her hello when he spots her entering the school gates, the other hand clapsed around Shouto's, who waves at her too.

She smiles back and waves at them before heading to the classroom, discarding the yoghurt bottle she carried from her breakfast in the trash can, and sits in her place at the back of the room.

Her suspicions were wrong. He can't see a thing.

But she can.
