Chapter Text
It was a beautiful night. Micky smiled as he looked around at the strings of lights connecting the park lanterns and bright displays. There was no snow, but the sight was beautiful nonetheless. His fateful partner was currently yapping away, enjoying the night off as well. Akuma attacks had been at an all time low thanks to the holidays, and they were sure to take advantage of it, choosing to “patrol” the park the night after the big light festival.
“You have anything planned for Christmas?” Calico had asked him, a shyness crept into his voice. Micky smirked, seeing the opportunity.
“Why? You wanna finally ask me out?” He beamed seeing the disapproving glare sent his way. He chuckled softly, “I’m probably gonna spend it with my friends. It’s…been a while since I’ve had a chance to properly hang out with them.” His voice laced with sorrow at the end. It really had been a while. The frequent akumas stacking on top of the nearly nightly patrols left very little time home. He hoped the others had been getting on fine without him. Davy and Peter especially seem to need his attention, it was irresponsible leaving them alone like that, poor Mike looked as tired as he was last they saw each other. Next to him, Calico hummed in agreement, probably thinking of something similar.
“You know that’s not a bad idea, I think I’ll try that. Although, there’s someone I’d like to visit if I have the time.” This made mickys heart jump. He knew calico was talking about him—the real him. Not Lovebug, but Micky Dolenz. If only calico could know it was him under the mask, he was starting to hate this whole secret identity thing. His thoughts were interrupted as he felt a frantic tapping on his shoulder.
“Oh wow! Look Bug!” Calico exclaimed, switching from walking next to him to balancing on the garden wall along the walkway.
”What is it Kitty?” The affectionate nickname had been slipping off his tongue more as of late. Micky followed his gaze and stopped in his tracks.
Oh wow was right. They had reached the middle of the park and there stood a tall tree, every inch decorated with lights, ornaments, bells, you name it, it was on there. They walked towards it to get a better look. It was breathtaking, it was dazzling, it was—he heard a soft ringing to his left, turning to see Calico.
The cat was transfixed on a singular silver bell hanging from one of the lower branches. He hesitantly bapped it with his claws, eyes dilating at the sound. Micky's previous thoughts caught up to him, although he no longer cared about the tree; This sight was infinitely better.
“Kitty?” He risked the nickname again, Clalico hardly registered, his jingle jangling of the bell growing more excited. Warmth bloomed in Micky's chest watching a smile flash on his face.
”Ohh Calico~” Micky called in a sing-song tone, finally catching the attrition of his partner who, once he realized what he was doing, stood up straight and embarrassed. Micky couldn’t help himself and giggled, much to Calico's dismay.
”What?” He pouted, ears pulled back.
”Oh, nothing” micky smiled, fondness overtaking his voice. He rang the bell gently “Don’t let me stop you”
“Don’t do that” Calico muttered although the soft jingle instantly caught his full attention, embarrassment forgotten. His ears perked up lighting quick as he zeroed in on it. He grumbled quietly before giving in, pawing at the bell with both gloved hands. It occupied his thoughts to the point he forgot Micky was even there, allowing himself a warm purr to mix with the bells music.
Micky has never heard a more beautiful song.
