Work Text:
As David and Dwight worked on fixing a generator, Dwight felt his anxiety ramping up.
He was pretty sure that the Killer wasn't anywhere nearby but, still... He couldn't be sure.
After all, this was the Wraith they were dealing with. He could be right by them and they'd have no idea until they heard the sickening sound of the bell.
It was this anxiety that made Dwight lose his focus, and the generator loudly puffed at him, surely alerting the Wraith of their location.
"Shit!" Dwight yelped as he stumbled back from his squat, landing on his ass and blocking his head like the thing had just swung at him. David frowned.
"Hey, it's alright" he soothed, making quick work of helping the other man up so they could flee the area in case the Wraith came to check on them. "Mistakes happen"
"I'm sorry" Dwight was crying now, panic and stress overflowing his already-weak emotional state and coming out in the form of tears.
Once David was sure they hadn't been followed, he cupped the other Survivor's cheek in his hand and gently swiped away a stray tear.
"None of that" he soothed. "You're doing amazing. It happens to the best of us"
This seemed to relax the panicked man a little bit, and he leaned into the touch. David smiled.
"You're amazing" he praised, and the smile that came to Dwight's worn face could keep him going for centuries.
"I love you, Davey"
"I love you too, Fairfield"
