You used to sit by here with him when no one watches. It's cold even with the door closed. But hey, You had him with you to talk through the coldness. But now, all you felt is numbness. Years and decades of the same old 'I'll let you leave' from the king have left you feeling lesser than you did when you crashed into this kingdom. Every drag felt like a thorn sprung from right under. Every light paired with a swing of your axe. And every shadow became your solace. With the king long dead gone, And another sibling of your unrequited lover ready to replace them, You're not taking another chance at usurpation.
"This is it." Your whisper your thoughts aloud. Let the shadow creepers know of it, No king's brand to stop you now.
You walk forward. Your footsteps grow heavier than the last.
You recall back to your days with the vessel. Fond memories of a connection, now you realized your parasocial intent with an image of a being not even there.
A jump that scrapes your knee. But you pay it no mind.
Your days back home, you would've taken the two years of being beaten up than having been forced to kill people.
Just a few more steps. You can hear someone behind you, That's never a good sign.
You think yourself as pathetic. Why die now when you could've done so those years ago?
"Maskfly!"
In front of you lies your future.
For once, You're not scared of heights. You're scared of something else.
You take a deep breath, And take a step forward.
"Maskfly, no!"
For you do not need to defy gravity for this miracle.
