Chapter Text
Now, Victor knew his girlfriend was smart. In fact, it was among his favorite things about her. She always had a plan, and she was always quick to solve any kind of problem. Now, why would Victor bring up the fact that she is smart?
Because. It meant that no matter what she was doing, she was most likely doing it for a reason.
For example. Lately, Nova had developed a habit of wearing his hoodies.
Not like he minded! In fact, he quite enjoyed seeing her wear them. They were always way too big for her, and she looked absolutely adorable when she would have her hands covered by the sleeves, and jump up excitedly to hug him.
Not only that. But with her blonde hair, and blue eyes contrasting with the often dark and vampiric clothes? She looked good.
It made him question himself sometimes. Like, “how can a girl this perfect really love me?”
But then. He would see Nova wearing that sweater at certain times, and would notice a pattern. She would always wear them around other girls. And not just Vera or Addison.
No, she would make a point at breakfast, or at campfire to wear them in front of everyone. Especially when she was next to the other girls their age.
Like he said, she was very smart.
And it was this small streak of jealousy, this small act that she did that made sure everyone knew she was is. This is what made him think that maybe, just maybe.
It was okay that he was obsessed with her. Because she? She was just as obsessed as him.
———————————————————————
Nova knew, that Victor knew, that she stole his hoodies practically every day.
Now, it’s not like she was particularly subtle about it. I mean, just the other day she had worn it to the campfire. Clearly, he saw her. And if his smile was anything to to go by, he did not mind.
But apparently, everyone else had yet to take the hint.
Why was she saying this? Well. It was currently breakfast, and she had agreed to help Addison set up banners, for the small dance they would be having soon, in the cafeteria. This meant that she wasn’t sitting where she normally would with her friends, but she was able to see them.
And the second she wasn’t sitting with Victor, what did she see? Of course it was Vanessa.
Vanessa was Victors age, and a daughter of a council member. Apparently she and Vera hadn’t gotten along when they were younger, and she had been adopted into Vaun's group. She was apparently, what Vera called, "Vaun’s more toxic version of you.”
Whatever that meant. To be honest? She didn’t really care. Any girl who could willingly hang around with that piece of garbage, clearly wasn’t worth her time.
But apparently she hadn’t learned anything. Because a pretty fundamental rule of dating someone? You didn’t flirt with other people. Which Vanessa was very clearly doing.
She was sitting next to him, and touching his arm, laughing way too loudly, and smiling and posing like a psycho. Vera did say that her and Vaun were very on and off, but still. This was ridiculous.
To Victor's credit, he didn’t say much. He just sat there, barely acknowledging her, and trying his best to focus on his conversation with Vargas. Still, she was persistent.
“Careful Nov.” Addison said, as Nova snapped back to her reality.
“You’re gonna rip the banner if you keep gripping it that hard.” She said with a laugh. Nova blinked, and looked down at where she was clenching her fist around the paper.
“Sorry.” She said sheepishly, unclenching her fist and helping Addison staple the banner to the wall. Addy smirked, and then looked over to where Nova had been death glaring.
“That girl buggin you?” Addison asked.
“No. Why would you say that?” Nova said, pointedly looking away. Addison gave her a look like “really?”
“Right. That’s why you almost stapled your hand because of how hard you were death glaring her.” Addison said seriously, with a nod. Nova decided to ignore that comment, climbing down the ladder,
“Look I’m just saying.” Addison continued, as they moved the ladders to a new spot.
“If she’s really bugging you, why don’t you just say something?” She asked glancing over again.
“Victor obviously doesn’t like it.”
Nova sighed, climbing the ladder again.
“It’s complicated.” She said. Addison gave her a look. She rolled her eyes and continued.
“I don’t want to just be seen as the jealous girlfriend who can’t handle her boyfriend speaking to other girls. No matter what I say, that’s how she will try to spin it.”
Addison looked lost in thought for a moment. Then, her smile turned devious.
“Yknow,” she said, coming forward.
“You could do something other than talking. Like… an action. A subtle, non-verbal, fuck off.”
Nova snorted, nailing a poster into the wall.
“Like what?”
Addison shrugged, coming forward and taking the staple gun.
“I don’t know. Some kind of staking the claim thing. You know, like the werewolves do.”
Nova gave her a look. She just laughed, nailing another thing into the wall.
“Look, I’m not one to judge how you do it. But that kind of girl? Show her without words how obsessed he is with you, and she won’t stand a chance.”
———————————————————————
Nova may have taken Addison's advice a little too literally. She was currently sitting on her bunk, debating what she was about to do.
She had decided that the cafeteria wasn’t the best place to do it, and she still needed to formulate a plan. So, she had let Vanessa lay all over Victor for lunch.
Granted, she pulled him into the woods and made out with him against a tree after that, but that’s beside the point.
She had formulated a, quite honestly devious, plan for how this was gonna go.
See, she definitely wore Victor's hoodies in front of people. But she still tried to be sort of subtle about it.
She would wear his solid red one, or the ones that were red and had black stitching.
But solid black? No not usually. That was like putting up a flag that said “im a Daywalker in vampire clothing, look at me!!” Which normally wasn’t her goal.
But tonight? That was exactly her goal.
So, she had gone into Victors cabin earlier, and grabbed one of his hoodies. It was black, with red designs on the back and his initials stitched in red on the sleeves.
She had only worn it a few times and only when they were alone. Never in front of people.
And the icing on the cake? She left her hair down, letting the soft golden waves tumble over her shoulders.
She didn’t know for sure, but she was pretty sure that Victor really liked it when she wore her hair down. Ever since the time that she had walked into a meeting with the council, after not having time to put her hair up, he had tripped over his own feet on the way to his chair.
She had tried not to laugh, and then tried not to blush when he spent nearly the whole time staring at her.
So, she had decided to try it out. After all, a little extra effort wouldn’t hurt when it came to things like this.
So, she walked out of her cabin with as much nonchalance and confidence as she could muster, and sat down by the fire, with her hands in the pockets of the too big sweater.
The night was already dark and cold, so she was glad for the sweater's warmth as she sat down with a shiver by the fire. As she came out, several conversations stopped, which she did her best to ignore.
Vera emerged from her cabin, grumbling about something, then stopped dead when she saw Nova. She just looked at her for a minute, before her face broke out in a sly grin and she came to sit next to her.
“Quite the outfit.” She said. Nova shrugged with a knowing smile.
“Is it?” She said innocently. Vera rolled her eyes.
“Look, I know this is probably some sort of elaborate revenge plot on other girls crushing on Victor. But I honestly think that you might give him a brain aneurysm before they notice.”
Nova blushed and smiled, happy that her plan was at least working so far.
At this moment, Victor came from the other side of camp, carrying wood with Vargas. They were both laughing about something, and came over to the fire to set the wood down.
Victor looked up towards Vera and her briefly, then did a double take when he saw her fully. She was leaning forward on her hand and smiling, the red “V.M.” Clearly visible on her sleeve.
His mouth practically fell open. She just smiled. Slowly, he stood up and came to sit next to her
“Hi.” She said with a smile.
“Hello.” He said, his mouth splitting into a wide grin.
“That’s my sweater.” He said. Less like a question, and more like a statement. For some reason, this fact seemed to make him really happy.
Nova nodded and smiled tilting her head.
“Is it?” She said innocently. He rolled his eyes, putting an arm around her waist and pulling her closer. She squealed slightly, as he leaned in next to her.
“Yes it is.” He said, whispering into her ear, a smile still on his face. She smiled, her cheeks flushing red.
Now, even thought the two of them didn’t put too much thought into it at the time, Nova and Victor were being intently watched by everyone. In fact, a couple of the younger girls were sneaking pictures of them, and giggling.
Vera noticed this, and came over with a small grin.
“What are you doing?” She asked amused. The two you vampire girls, and young Daywalker girl froze, looked at each other, and then started laughing.
“It’s for the Firefly folder.” They said. Vera raise an eyebrow.
“The what?”
They laughed, opening a sparkly notebook.
“The firefly folder. It’s their ship name. You know, fire and flying?”
Vera looked at them in disbelief. Then laughed a little. She looked over their shoulder at the Pictures in the notebook.
It was full of shots of them from camp, laughing while doing crafts, chatting during meals, even then cuddling by the campfire.
Vera couldn’t help the soft smile on her face. Because despite everything, these two had become some of the two people she cared most about. They had been through way too much for people their age. She was happy they had gotten to this point.
She looked back at their little fan girls, and grinned.
“Tell you what.” She said, leaning closer.
“I’ll supply you with more photos, and five bucks if you start showing those photos to people, and start spreading that ship name around camp.”
The girls eyes lit up, and they enthusiastically shook her hand.
“You’ve got a deal.”
Vera smiled, and stood up. Nova’s little sweater scheme might get most girls to back off, but Vera?
Vera would make sure everyone knew.
———————————————————————
Back where Nova and Victor were sitting, a group of Vampire girls started to make their way to the campfire. Among them, Vanessa immediately spotted Victor and strutted over. But when she saw the blonde girl tucked into his side, and his sweater that was clearly being worn by her, she stopped dead.
Trying to recover, she cleared her throat and sat down on Victors left side. The funny part was, he didn’t even notice. He was so preoccupied listening to a story Nova was telling, and twirling a piece of her long golden hair, that he barely noticed she had come to the campfire at all.
“Quite the night.” Vanessa said, clearly trying to drag him into conversation with her. He just hummed in agreement, only after Nova twisted to listen to her.
Nova smiled coyly, and pulled the sweater around her more tightly.
“Yeah it’s beautifully. Chilly though.” She said with a smile. Almost as if on cue, Victor ran a hand up and down her arm, and his eyebrows crinkled in concern like, “how dare the cold hurt you.”
Vanessa smiled, tight lipped like she was annoyed by Novas answer, and then looked at Victor with that full, too-white teethed smile.
“You know, some of the Vampire are gathering on the beach tonight. You could come if you wanted.” She said, pointedly ignoring Nova, who gave her a furious glare.
Victor however, seemed to have barely heard her. Why?
Well. Nova had a hand slowly running through the hair on the nape of his neck, and her nail scratching his skin felt so nice that he was about 2 seconds away from losing all self control, and kissing her in front of everyone.
But when Vanessa words finally registered, and he saw Novas little glare, he backed away from Vanessa’s touch shaking his head.
“No thanks. I have plans tonight.” He said simply. Vanessa raised an eyebrow, looking at where Nova was still practically wrapped around him.
“Are you sure? Most of us will be there, and it’s been a while since we’ve had it just vampires. Just… us, you know?” She said, placing a hand on his arm in a very obvious gesture.
He could feel the heat from Novas palms, which would have made him feel smug at her jealousy under normal circumstances. But honestly, the heat emanating from her palms into his cool skin almost made him whimper.
God damn it.
“No, like I said I have something else planned.” He said, tryin to gently shrug her hand off his arm. Vanessa scoffed.
“Like what?” She asked. And finally, he sighed, and just yanked his arm away.
“A date Vanessa. I have a date. With my GIRLFRIEND. And the fact that you can’t take no for an answer is concerning.”
He could practically feel Nova's stare.
“Seriously, if you knew me at all you would know that being just vampires is the last thing I want. And you would also know, that I am dating someone. Who is quite literally, sitting next to me, wearing my clothes.”
He moved farther away, turning back towards nova and his friends.
“You can do this to me when it’s a group of people, but I won’t let you do it in front of my girlfriend when she is with me, and just get away with it. Leave us alone. Please.”
He could hear the gasps from people all around them, and Vanessas offended cough, but he didn’t honestly care. She could kick rocks, see if he would stop her.
The only real person he cared about was Nova. She was still sitting there, now looking at him with these wide admiring eyes, that made him want to kiss her right there. Never mind the fact that her hair was down. The soft golden wave making him literally insane. Not to mention that they were falling across the fabric of HIS hoodie. That she was still wearing.
Needless to say, he lasted maybe ten more minutes with everyone, until he whispered in Novas ear to come with him, and left the camp fire, heading towards the ruins where they first flew.
After all, she looked so beautiful, that he could hardly function. Who could blame him?
