Jungwon recalled the conversation he had with Ni-ki and Jake earlier that day.
As the boys were getting ready to go on stage, one of them couldn’t help but observe his surroundings. As the leader, Jungwon had gotten insanely good at reading people. He scanned the room. Jake and Ni-ki were on the couch, laughing at something on one of their phones. Heeseung was warming up his voice while getting his hair done, Jay was taking a nap since he was the first one to get ready, while Sunoo and Sunghoon were off to the corner of the room with some of the staff. He kept staring at those two. They’ve piqued his interest lately. When did the air between them become so… different? He had been paying close attention to them for a couple of weeks now, and he noticed a few things; Sunoo and Sunghoon were closer than before, they would spend their free days together (which, to be fair, weren’t that many anyway) by playing video games in Sunoo’s room or going out to eat just the two of them. It wasn’t particularly strange, but it wasn’t a regular occurrence either. They just seemed to be smiling way more than usual when around each other. Was he overthinking it? He didn’t know exactly. He went up to Jake and Ni-ki, since they seemed like the least busy members right now.
“I gotta talk to you guys, but keep it quiet”, he said while sitting on the couch. The leader’s words caught their attention, so they looked at him expectantly, gesturing for him to keep talking. At that moment, a loud laugh was coming from across the room. Sunghoon was bothering Sunoo, getting a look of disgust in response, but followed by a smile. Jungwon looked at them and started talking again.
“Don’t you think something is going on with those two?” He asked.
“Something like what?” Asked the youngest.
“Like...”, Jungwon made a gesture with his hands, putting his two index fingers together. “Something, you know”
“Who? Sunsun?” Jake asked, while chuckling a bit. “Nah man, no way...”
“Sunsun?” Jungwon tried to make sense of those words by himself, to no avail.
“That’s how overseas fans call Sunghoon and Sunoo”, Ni-ki added. “Look”, he said while busily typing on his phone. He showed Jungwon a so-called “sunsun compilation” on Youtube.
“So yeah, no”, Jake insisted. “They’ve gotten quite popular lately”. He pointed somewhere for Jungwon to look. “There’s a camera crew with them, they’re doing that for the fans”.

“Jungwoni?”. Jungwon locked his phone’s screen, slightly startled by hearing his hyung’s voice. Sunoo was calling for him, telling him they had already arrived home. He could feel his phone vibrating in his hands, still getting messages from his members. Everyone had already gotten out of the car, so he thanked Sunoo and got out as well.

Following the leader’s instructions from last night, the five boys in the group chat met early in the morning to have breakfast in Jungwon’s dorm. Sunoo had gone out way earlier to film some ads for his 8second campaign, so this was perfect timing. Some of the guys —mostly Heeseung— were still out of the loop regarding the topic at hand, so everyone took turns to fill them in, including their “very biased opinions”, according to Jungwon.
“So, you think Sunoo and Sunghoon have a crush on each other?” Heeseung was still processing this sudden information overload.
“Yeah, that’s exactly what I’m saying! But these guys don’t believe me”. Jungwon said, accusing Jake and Ni-ki.
“Well, do you have any proof? Because I do”, said Jake in an overly confident tone.
“I just told you about it!” Jungwon was starting to get frustrated.
“With all due respect, leader-nim, but them giggling in the back of the car while we were going home isn’t substantial proof. Maybe you just made it up! No one else was there with you”.
“And why in the world would I make things up about two of my members!”
“Ok, you two, calm down”. Heeseung spoke up, tired of the back-and-forth discussion. The members looked at him in silence. “To be honest, I see where you both are coming from, but let’s think of a way to crack this open”.
In that exact moment, Sunghoon walked through the door, yawning and dragging his feet across the room. He wasn’t fully in his senses just yet, but he looked at the scene in front of him, slowly coming to a realization. His members were having breakfast on their own, a very nice breakfast at that, without him. He felt a slight sense of betrayal.
“You punks! If you were going to eat this well, why didn’t you wake me up!”
The members looked at each other with a guilty expression on their faces, trying to communicate with their eyes for one of them to talk.
“Man, you were sleeping so peacefully we felt bad about waking you up”, Jay said, easing the tension.
Sunghoon nodded, as if agreeing and asked, “But where’s Sunoo? And manager Yuki?”
“He had an early schedule today, you didn’t know? For 8seconds?”, Jake asked.
“Oh, right”, he said in a very uninterested tone. He sat down next to the members, grabbing a plate to eat. “Anyways, what were you talking about? I heard something about cracking something open?”
The members looked at each other, getting worried. No one knew what to say to that. Sunghoon raised an eyebrow, expecting any of them to say something. Jay was the first to break the silence. “... Eggs”, he simply said.
“Eggs?” Sunghoon started getting intrigued. The atmosphere felt heavy. There was something they weren’t telling him.
“Crack eggs open. See, like this! Haha”. An overly excited Jake spoke, which made Sunghoon’s suspicions grow even bigger.
He dropped his chopsticks and bowl of rice on the table. “Ok, what’s going on?”
This whole time, Heeseung was thinking of a plan to get information from Sunghoon without being too in the face about it. He thought this was the perfect moment to start. Without letting the members know, he just went with it. He was sure it was going to work anyway. He sighed, adding a bit of drama to the situation, and said: “Actually, the members were telling me how they think Sunoo has a crush on me”. He carefully looked at the younger’s expression, shifting slightly, which was almost unnoticeable.
“On you?” Sunghoon chuckled. “And why do you think so?”
Catching up on the oldest’s plan, Ni-ki added: “Well, some of his actions and words might be showing that he does”.
Sunghoon started eating again, “Oh, really?” he said, his tone holding a bit of annoyance, “Like what exactly?”
“You know, he tends to get shy a lot next to Heeseung hyung, he laughs way more than normal, and he can’t look at him in the eyes for more than 2 seconds”.
Sunghoon didn’t seem interested in the conversation anymore. He pulled out his phone, typing a few words before pulling it back.
“Are you not gonna say anything?” Jungwon asked him.
“What do you want me to say?” he was definitely annoyed now. “Keep dreaming, I guess?” As soon as he said that, he realized he shouldn’t have. “I mean, I don’t think it’s possible”.
Jungwon smirked a little, “And why do you think so?”
Jake was absolutely fascinated with this situation; he had never seen his best friend like this before. He seemed to finally understand what Jungwon and Jay were yapping so much about.
“Are you worried sunsun is going to die down? Don’t worry, bro, shipping is different from real life, you can keep doing fanservice!” He wrapped an arm over Sunghoon’s shoulder.
Sunghoon wanted this conversation to be over this very instant. So when he heard the door’s keypad, he could finally relax again. It was Sunoo. Perfect! They couldn't keep talking about this in front of him.
“Morning!” Sunoo said, “I’m sooo tired, but the brand gave me some goods, I’ll share them with you all later” He quickly realized the mood was weird when he approached the place where everyone was sitting. “Oh no, what’s happening here?”
Sunghoon scooted over to give him some space to sit, so Sunoo did, thanking him with a slight smile. The older didn’t realize his hyung was now sitting next to Sunoo as well, and he hit himself mentally when he realized. Sunoo’s attention, however, was on the members again, gesturing for someone to speak. “It’s nothing”, Sunghoon said, begging for everyone to shut up about this topic already.
“We think you have a crush on someone”, Jake spoke. Sunoo’s cheeks started turning a bright pink tone. He shook his head vigorously, trying to deny the rumours his own members were spreading. He couldn't believe his ears. “Isn’t he sitting next to you now?” Sunoo opened his eyes wide and looked at Jake, shocked. “It’s Heeseung, isn’t it? Everyone knows now”. The younger was slightly confused; he just went through a roller-coaster of emotions the second he put a foot in the dorm. Him? Liking Heeseung? That was ridiculous. He looked over at Sunghoon to see his reaction to that statement, and he could see that his hyung was very pissed by the conversation. He smiled to himself, thinking about what to do to ease his annoyance. Without thinking any longer, he leaned in to whisper something in Sunghoon's ear, leaving a kiss on his cheek right after. Sunghoon looked at him, surprised, with his face, neck and ears now going red. His expression finally softened.
The members looked at the two of them, slightly shocked by the action, especially since Sunoo wasn’t the type who liked skinship. Sunoo held Sunghoon’s hand, the older going insane over the slight touch they were sharing in front of the members.
“Actually”, Sunoo started, “the one I like is Sunghoon hyung”, he said, leaning his head on the older’s shoulder and showing the members their interlocked hands. “So don’t go around saying those things, I don’t want him to feel jealous”. He got up, still holding Sunghoon’s hand, guiding him to his room. Sunghoon was covering his face with his free hand, his mind a mess right now. They got to the younger’s room and sat on his bed. “You know, if you wanted them to know about us, you could’ve told them before I got here”. Sunoo said, removing Sunghoon’s face from his face. He moved his own hands towards the older’s neck, and leaned in to give him a proper kiss this time, which Sunghoon gladly accepted, resting his hands on Sunoo’s waist.
Once they separated, Sunghoon said, “I didn’t want to reveal this without you knowing, but I’m glad you did. I was dying out there”. Sunoo giggled, something that made Sunghoon’s stomach feel funny. “I didn’t know my boyfriend was this daring”, said the older one, caressing Sunoo’s waist.
“Well, when it comes to you, I can do this, and a lot more”, Sunoo said, pulling him for a second kiss.
Meanwhile, the members couldn’t believe what they had just heard. Of course, Jungwon had suspected something was up, but he never expected them to be actually dating. For how long? Did the company know? So many unanswered questions, and the two boys who could answer them had drifted off to Sunoo’s room. Everyone sat there frozen for a couple of seconds until Jungwon came to his senses. He stood up and knocked on Sunoo’s door, startling the lovers on the other side.
“Don’t do anything weird while we’re here!” Jungwon screamed through the door.
“How do you know we haven’t already?” answered Sunoo, half joking.
Jungwon audibly gasped, getting laughs from both sides. “You fuckers! Come out here right now!”
