Chapter 1: Blood and ink

Chapter Text

When Eddie woke, he saw nothing but darkness.
This, in itself, is not odd. He has woken many times in the middle of the night due to nightmares before, but this felt different, somehow. Quieter, calmer.

Then he heard it. The distinct sounds of webs.

“Parker?!?” Eddie shoots out of bed, ready to fight.

“Woah, hold your horses, Brock,
We have bigger things to worry about.”
Peter snarks back.

“Like what?!”

“Well, if you really want to know, we’re both in an alternate universe, we can’t return to our original universe without ripping reality shreds, and we’re both children again.”

What. The. Fuck.

“Venom?” Eddie asks, worried about his partner.

“He’s here too, and he’s hungry.”

(Hello Eddie)

‘Hi V.’

“Anyway, need help eating?” Peter asks and oh, he looks so tiny right now. Just a little baby.

“You’re going to help us? What about your no kill rule?”

To be honest… that was for Queens, and when the avengers were watching. I don’t mind you eating the scum of the earth. Or maybe I do, and my child brain just doesn’t care right now. Dunno. Also There’s a lot of shitty people in this city, you will not be going hungry.”

“…ok then.”

“Want me to help?” Peter asks, his head tilted slightly.

“How would you help?”

“I’m a cute little kid, I can lure scum into alleyways.”

(This is true, scum do like children.)

“Deal.”

———————————————————————

Hal Jordan was very surprised that Batman called him into Gotham, especially since Spooky never called any of the JL for, well, anything!

Hal could only assume that it had to be important, or else Spooky would never call.

“Hey Batman!” He calls when he arrives to the location. “What seems to be the issue?”

“Green Lantern, thank you for joining us. We have a problem involving an unknown entity that we suspect is alien in origin, but we don’t know where it is or what it looks like.”

Ok. Vague.

“Tell me more Spooks, how do you know that the alien exists if you haven’t seen it?”

Batman moves to the side, revealing ten headless bodies, and by the looks of it, their heads were bitten off.

Oh.

“Ok, I’ll need a DNA sample from the corpse, hopefully whatever this thing is left saliva behind. Are you sure it’s not like, Killer Croc or something?”

“Killer Croc is in Arkham, and no one in our database makes bite marks like this.”

Hal scans the body and waits for the DNA sample to load.

What he didn’t expect were the results.

“Oh fuck.”

“What is it?” Batman asks (orders??)

“That… that was a symbiote bite….” Hal frets.

“A symbiote?”

“Symbiotes are like… the apex predators of the universe. They’re the only known species that are able to hunt things like kryptonions. This is bad Batman, these things are killing machines. I have to inform the green lanterns corp, earth will probably be put on lockdown and—“

“How do we kill it?” Batman demands.

“Unknown, no one’s ever killed one.”

“Then where are they all? Surely we would have heard of more.”

“Symbiotes are the ultimate predators, but they need very specific host bodies to survive. The likely hood of this one finding its perfect match is one in ten trillion, so we just need to wait for it to die. Gotham will have to be on lockdown till then, maybe the entirety of New Jersey.”

“Understood.”

This was bad.

———————————————————————

2 days later, Peter and Eddie watch with amusement (Eddie) and worry (Peter) as the state of New Jersey gets locked down.

“Eddie, this is bad, they’ll hunt us if they find out who you are, and we can’t leave!”

“And how will they find out Petey?” I’ve hidden my identity back home for 6 years now, we’ll be fine here too. Stop worrying.”

“You’re way too cocky.”

Eddie sighs, and continues digging through the dumpster, trying to find anything chocolate, when he finds a newspaper.

On the front page was a picture of someone who was…. Very familiar.

The article under read ‘Lois Lane won second Pulitzer award one article about child trafficking.’

“Lois…?”

“Who’s Lois?” Peter asks.

“My sister… or, well, she was… she died when I was 6… I guess in this universe, she got to grow up.”

———————————————————————

Lois was worried. She knew that Clark felt useless right now, he couldn’t help Gotham if the problem could also kill him. So she let
him worry and fret while she continued writing her story, about the little brother she never got to see grow up.

‘18 years ago, my mother gave birth to Eddie Lane, the sweetest boy in the entire universe. She handed the baby off to the nurse, so her sweet boy could be checked over. She never got her son back. I never got my brother back. All I can hope for is that one day, he’ll see me and my writing, and come home.’

She sighs and closes her laptop as Jon barreled into the room.
