Chapter Text

Chapter One

It was endless.

Tales of boring female conversation and things he had no care to know. It was infernal. It was terrible. It was not something he wanted to hear.

What he wanted was for the brunette mortal to shut her mouth.

Loki didn't move from his position, but his green eyes flicked down to the female where she sat with his brother and human lover. Would she never cease her endless chatter?

It was she who deserved the Silencing Thread to be sewn through her lips.

Loki's lips would have twisted in a menacing snarl if not for his sewn lips. He'd never heard a female speak so much with a single inhale of breath.

What was her name? His mind drew a blank at the memory.

Was the punishment fair? He'd submitted himself to their father. But was it fair? Was it just? He was here willingly, was he not? He never faltered from his punishment. Perhaps he shouldn't have tried to destroy an entire race while trying to enslave another. But it wasn't something that he could change.

He would never be trusted again. But did he care?

No.

He was here of his own free will. A year of punishment—a lifetime, perhaps, in Asgardian days. Standing on the pedestal, his lips sewn shut, his hands clasped behind his back. Everyday and freed one hour before nightfall.

The night was his.

A fitting punishment, Odin had said.

Annoyance filled him. He understood why Thor would bring his mortal to Asgard. But why the chattering imbecile?

His eyes narrowed. Ah, yes, Darcy, Loki reminded himself, turned those wayward eyes his way.

His hands clenched behind his back. She would not. Hearing her mundane chatter across the garden was more than enough torture. She would not…

But she would.

Loki looked up and beyond the approaching Midgardian, hoping against all hopes that she would turn away. Perhaps continue on. He closed his eyes and his senses to everything around him. He centered his focus. Beautiful silence.

Until that silence was shattered.

"If we had punishments like that, the crime rate might be a little less."

Loki's eyes snapped open, his head tilting to stare down at the human female staring up at him.

"So, you're the God that nearly took out New York City."

A pause.

"That's gotta hurt."

Loki looked away.

"Thor could have mentioned that our phones wouldn't work. I mean, with Shield and all you would think they would have figured something out by now…my iPod doesn't work here."

Loki's eye twitched. Where was Thor? Where was his human? And why was he alone with this woman? Why was she talking to him? Did she not fear him? He knew he didn't like her—from her strange clothing to her non-stop chatter, Loki knew that right away.

"God, I feel stupid. You can't talk, can you?" Darcy hit herself on the head. She tugged her scarf. "I couldn't do it, man. Just standing there while they do…that. Gotta be painful."

Loki refrained from rolling his eyes. Ignorance was bliss, was it not? He felt nothing when the needle pierced his flesh.

Such was the place of his punishment.

"Did it hurt?"

Was the chit dense?

"Are you deaf? Can you even hear me?"

Loki didn't look at her—didn't acknowledge her. Let her think he was deaf. Maybe she would leave him be in silence.

If only his punishment was so just.

"I know you can hear me." Darcy mused.

Loki ignored her, waiting patiently for the hour when he would be free. He could hear her. Unfortunately.

"When I asked Jane if Thor had a brother, I didn't think she meant you. You know, trying to destroy cities and all. You're over that though, right?" She nodded, as if she was having a whole conversation with her.

She was.

Loki would have known of it.

She pointed over her shoulder. "He's over there spouting poetry and I can't stand it. Jane is falling for it. He's all HE-MAN and muscles and…" She trailed off when Loki's arms suddenly moving, his hands falling to rest at his sides.

The black thread at his lips pulled tight before it vanished, leaving his lips unblemished.

"So cool—"

Loki jumped down from the pedestal and his hand covered her mouth. "Cease your endless chatter, woman." He muttered before he disappeared.
