Chapter Text
It didn’t snow often in Hawkins, but when it did, it was always a magical experience. Today was no different. It was currently Christmas Eve, and both Jonathan Byers and Eddie Munson were outside in the snow playing while their dads were at home being assholes. They knew each other from school and bonded over being seen as freaks. Even in elementary school, there were cliches. As they were playing, Eddie started complaining that Jonathan was making a snow angel wrong and splashing snow on him. Jonathan just laughed and continued to do what he was doing, so Eddie decided to splash snow back at him.
Next thing they know, they are throwing snowballs back and forth at each other. They were laughing happily until Jonathan slipped while throwing a snowball. He falls and hits his head on a rock. Everything goes black after that for Jonathan. Eddie doesn’t know what to do, so he just sits there next to Jonathan's unconscious body. Hours pass with Eddie sitting there waiting for Jonathan to wake up. What’s even worse, Lonnie comes looking for Jonathan in a fit of drunk rage just to find him unconscious. Lonnie then sees Eddie sitting there and directs his anger towards Eddie. He hits Eddie and threatens him not to hang out with Jonathan ever again before carrying Jonathan home.
The next day at school, Jonathan sees Eddie by himself. Jonathan decides to go over and say hi, trying to befriend him, but the second Eddie sees him, Eddie's eyes widen, and he runs away. This continues until Jonathan eventually gives up. That’s how an awesome friendship faded away within seconds.
