Work Text:
once upon a time yesterday there was a piece of bread. the piece of bread was named bread and she had soft, supple crumb and a heavenly gold crust. her crust crunched with every step she took, always collecting enamored and jealous glances from the losers on the street.
narrator announcement: bread world is separate from human world but basically the same. announcement over, story continues.
one day as bread was going to get her favorite human loaf at the store, she saw a manhole on fire. intrigued and also concerned, she slightly hurriedly meandered her way over to look. KABOOM. it exploded and bread got sucked into a fiery vortex. she felt as though she was a being burned alive and was 100% sure she was dead. next thing she knew, she was opening her crusty eyes on a soft piece of grass. she looked up and immediately screamed. around her stood a crowd of things. Things that looked suspiciously like human loaves but if you sized them up way big and added some dank additions like eyes and ears and noses. The things all screamed and so did bread. Then bread passed out from shock.
when she awoke she was in a hospital. there was a thing that looked like an alive version her favorite loaf wearing a white coat standing beside her. “Where am I? What’s going on?” bread asked in tears. sexy alive human loaf said “You’re in hospital. I don’t know what the hell you are but I’m going to save you.” bread, still kinda overcome with fear, was touched by sexy human loaf’s determination to save her. “Thank you, Mr . . .” “You can just call me doctor.” “Thank you Mr. Dr.” bread’s facial crust toasted a few degrees as she spoke the words. Mr. Dr. asked bread so many questions, some relevant, some irrelevant, some annoying, some not annoying. Bread answered them all, and even asked Mr. Dr some questions of her own. i’m not gonna tell you what questions were asked cus that’s a lot of typing but imagine a conversation that takes a good chunk of time and general bonding. Suddenly, a not sexy alive loaf interrupted their conversation and told Mr. Dr. he had to go save a life or something. Bread was sad. No one else dared to go near bread. Bread waited a long time until Mr. Dr. finally came back. “You seem to be in perfectly good health minus the fact that you’re a piece of bread, so you can leave. I’m getting off of work now so you can come with me. I’m assuming you have nothing nor anywhere to go, so you can come with me.” Bread nodded and took Mr. Dr.’s hand and they left together.
walking interlude to Mr. Dr.’s house + more bonding
As soon as they entered the door, bread could feel the mood shift. there was a tension in the air that had not been present before. “You know,” Mr.Dr. said, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything as glorious as you.” No one had ever said anything like that to bread before. Bread was in love, and told Mr. Dr. so. Mr. Dr. smiled and told bread he loved her too. Then, sexy time occurred.
time skip (Bread and Mr. Dr. are so happy together wow so great so amazing they live together and months go by)
Bread’s clothes had been becoming tight on her, but she had just assumed it was from the strange foods all these things eat. But then, one day, she felt a jabbing in her stomach cavity. “Holy shit! My insides are trying to kill me!” Bread screamed. Mr. Dr. rushed to her side and felt her stomach. “No, my love, our love has become life inside you.” “What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” Bread was annoyed at Mr. Dr.’s unperturbed smile while she was possibly dying. “You’re pregnant.” Bread couldn’t believe what he had just said. “P-p-p-pregnant?!!” “Yes, we’re going to have a baby.”
fast forward to almost birth time
Bread stood in the kitchen, her stomach cavity now fully round and her stomach crust cracked in some places, revealing the tender soft bread underneath. She rested her baguette arm on her stomach, exhausted but excited for the baby to finally come whenever the heck it decided to pop out. Which was apparently right then. Idk how labor works so imagine labor stuff starting and Mr. Dr. rushes bread to the hospital and more labor stuff. Bread looked lovingly down at the newborn with Mr. Dr. standing right beside her also looking lovingly down at the newborn even though the newborn objectively looked disgusting as they all do. It had both bread and human characteristics (you can imagine whatever mixture you want), a perfect blending of their two worlds. Bread and Mr. Dr. looked at each other, both their eyes filled with love, wonder, and an unspoken promise that they would be forever together.
