Prologue
You know what they say? Never fall for your brother's best friend. Especially not when there are five of them.
But rules, much like hearts, are meant to be broken.
And something did happen.
"Untouchable Bird."
That’s the ridiculous title they thought I wouldn’t hear about. Oh, but I did.
“What do you mean? Who exactly are these ‘they’ you’re talking about?” I asked sweetly, tightening the metal bar across her neck with a calculated twist. My tone might have been polite, but the slight crack in her voice when she croaked in response was music to my ears.
“T-The guys you’re obsessed with! Y-Your brother’s f-friends, you psycho!” she stammered, clawing at my arms as if her life depended on it. It did, of course—but that was entirely up to me.
Her words lingered in the air, and I could feel the corners of my lips twitching upward. Obsessed? Maybe. Protective of? Definitely. Dangerous? Oh, you have no idea.
Those five perfect gods—my brother’s best friends—had apparently decreed that I was untouchable. Untouchable enough to earn a nickname, even a stupid one like Untouchable Bird . A cruelly ironic twist, considering how I’d been acting.
It was infuriating… and yet, I couldn’t deny the thrill that crept up my spine. The thought of them issuing some unspoken code to keep me “safe,” declaring me forbidden fruit, was a strange cocktail of annoyance and exhilaration.
Untouchable? Sure. But that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the chase.
As much as I hate how absurd it sounds, there’s something wickedly delicious about the idea of them protecting me—about them being so close, yet so out of reach.
I loosened the bar, letting her gasp for air. My work here was done. For now.
Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned about birds, it’s that they always find a way to land on what they want.
