Chapter Text
The grass is soft, wet with morning dew and the scent of damp soil is strong in the air from the storm the previous night. Early morning is Jungkook's favourite time of day. At barely seven o'clock, many are still in bed or just getting up, with the exception for those on hunting and parole duty, and the animals are still out and about. It's peaceful. Quiet, and, if only for an hour, Jungkook can be completely alone with his own thoughts. It's his favourite part of the day because of the sense of calm and peace it gives him of only for a few moments.
It has always been this way, for many years, which is why Jungkook is so confused as to what made today so different.
The village was silent when he left his home at the usual crack of dawn, but, by about half six, there was a huge commotion to be heard from the other side of the village.
By the time Jungkook arrived, a crowd of what seemed like most of the village had formed and murmurs were spreading like rapid fire. 'Are those wolves?', 'They're huge', 'Too big, what if they're "them"?'. Rising to his tip toes, Jungkook can just make out the hunting group from yesterday, victorious looks on their faces and thick, heavy chains in some of their hands leading to two large and injured wolves, one dark grey and black, the other a fiery red and white.
