"Um... It's not completely inedible, right...?"
Fuuka questions herself as she stares at her burnt... "Cake" on the counter. It's not really a cake anymore -- just where did she go wrong? It's just black, gooey, yet rock-hard sludge at this point.
"Who am I kidding... Aw..." She grumbles to herself, sighing at her failed attempt.
She puts her oven mitts back on, taking the tray of thick sludge, glaring down at it. "Eugh..." She repulses at her own creation.
"What am I supposed to do...? I don't want him to have *no* cake..." Fuuka throws the pile of inedible sludge into the trash.
She sighs, knowing she just has to give up at this point. She starts going back upstairs. As soon as she turns to go up the second flight of stairs, she hears a door open. She turns around to spot Shinjiro coming out of his room as he notices Fuuka standing there, staring at him like a deer in headlights.
"You're up late, Yamagishi." Shinjiro stares down at her, staring at her surprised face. "Is something burning?" He asks, getting a whiff of the burnt sludge.
"I... Um..." Fuuka turns her body to face Shinjiro. "Shinji-senpai… I was trying to make a cake, but I really messed up... And... Um... Sorry."
He crosses his arms. "You don't need to apologize. It's not like I need a cake."
"I see..." Fuuka walks over to him, giving him a sudden hug. "Happy birthday…"
Shinjiro uncrosses his arms as Fuuka hugs him, hugging her back, attempting to hide the smile creeping into his face. "You must be tired. What time is it?"
"I am… I think it's about… 1 A.M.?" Fuuka gently nuzzles Shinjiro's chest, yawning.
"Jesus… Let's get you to sleep." Shinjiro insists, leading her inside his room and closing the door behind him.
Fuuka lays down on his bed, curling up and shutting her eyes. Shinjiro lays down next to her, wrapping her arms around her. Fuuka rolls over, cuddling him, gently and sleepily kissing his neck. "I love you…" She murmurs, squeezing him tighter.
"...Yeah. I love you, too." He smiles, resting his chin on top of her head as she falls asleep.
