Chapter Text
My mother always warned me about demons. They are evil beings who desire only the souls of innocent people, so they can pass them on as energy to their ruler, Gwi-Ma.
One day, a group of women with incredible voices rose to the defense of humanity. With their singing and fighting skills, they were able to drive demons into the shadows. They were called hunters. They were able to unite people through a common song and create a shield to protect the world—Honmoon.
Over the generations, three women were chosen to protect the world. In the process, they attempted to create the golden Honmoon, a barrier so strong that Gwi-Ma's power would be unable to penetrate it and cause harm ever again.
Now it was time to finally make this happen, although unfortunately I wasn't the one who was supposed to help with it...
-The time has come, victory is within your reach. You have a chance to achieve the impossible - my mother, Celine, continued - Let the power of your voices create a song that will call forth the golden Honmoon.
My mother was a woman with a stern but beautiful face. Her dark hair, lightly flecked with gray, flowed down her back as always, and not a single strand dared to curl in a direction she didn't want.
I shifted my gaze to the three girls standing before her, the new hunters. The one in the middle was my cousin Rumi. I grew up with her, and my mother had chosen her over me. Don't get me wrong, I didn't blame her. Rumi was wonderful and deserved the best, but sometimes I imagined what it would be like if Celine treated me the way she treated her. What would my life be like then?
The dark-haired girl standing to Rumi's left was Zoey, one of the nicest people I've ever met, and even though I know very little about them, I'd never change my mind. She's very sweet and has an innocent, angelic appearance, but don't let that fool you; when she gets angry (or raps), she becomes her own opposite.
The third girl was Mira, my best friend. Her tall, serious face might have seemed intimidating, but deep down, she was a complete wimp. She was the first to notice my mother's ignorance and extended a helping hand, assuring me that no matter what, she would always be there to help me. She, too, was having problems at home; perhaps that's why we understood each other without words?
Watching Celine start to walk away towards the house, I got up from under the huge tree and ran to the girls, falling into their arms.
- Good luck girls, I believe you will succeed - after that I broke away from their embrace and looked at each of their faces.
- You'll be there, right? - Zoey asked - At the concert when we reach the golden Honmoon?
I honestly didn't know for sure.
- You have to be there. We need you - Mira interjected.
- What for? You're doing great.- My tone was joking, but the thought of how useless I really was made me want to cry.
- You're our anchor, Adel, you're normality in our abnormal world, you keep us from going crazy - Rumi's voice sounded gentle but powerful at the same time.
- Okay, I'll be there, but get me a backstage pass! - I smiled at them one last time and headed towards the village, tears welling up in my eyes.
"You're normal," nothing special. I slightly rolled up the sleeves of my sweatshirt and looked at the purple markings that stretched beneath it, all the way to the back of my neck. "You're a mistake."
