Princess Isabella strolled through the corridors, her honey eyes scanning the ancient tapestries that adorned the walls. Each one whispered a story of valor and love, but none quite as intricate as the one her own life was weaving. Her silk gown brushed against the cold stone floors, leaving a trail of whispers in her wake.
King Charles Swan, a man whose power and charm had once been the envy of the land, sat on his throne, his gaze lingering on a portrait of his late wife, the Queen. His heart ached with a longing that no amount of power or wealth could fill. In the shadows of his chamber, his thoughts grew darker, fixating on the one person who bore a resemblance to his lost love.
The evening feast was announced with the ringing of the grand hall's bell. The royal family and their guests gathered, their chatter filling the cavernous space.
King Charles' eyes searched the room, finding Isabella as she descended the stairs, her gown shimmering like a moonlit river. She was a vision of beauty, a living embodiment of his queen's grace and beauty. His heart pounded in his chest, his desire for her swelling like the tides of the sea. As she took her seat beside him, he could not help but reach for her hand, giving it a gentle, yet firm squeeze.
Isabella felt a shiver run down her spine. She had grown accustomed to her father's affectionate gestures over the years, but there was something different in his touch tonight. She returned the gesture awkwardly, her eyes flicking to the other guests, hoping none had noticed the unspoken tension.
The meal was a feast for the gods, with succulent meats, exotic fruits, and the finest wine flowing like a river.
After the feast concluded, the court moved to the grand ballroom for an evening of dance. The air was thick with the scent of lust and power.
The king stood, pulling her to her feet with surprising grace. "My dear, shall we?" His voice was low, a seductive purr that sent a shiver down her spine.
With a nod, Isabella allowed herself to be led onto the dance floor. The music swelled around them as they began to dance, their movements precise and calculated, a silent battle of wills played out through the graceful steps. King Charles held her closer than ever before.

In the days that followed, King Charles' obsession with Isabella grew more pronounced. Gifts of unparalleled beauty and rarity filled her chamber: necklaces with emeralds and other precious jewels, dresses to enhance the sweet color of her eyes made of silk and gold, and books bound in leather that spoke of love and passion. Each offering was a silent declaration of his yearning.
The courtiers' eyes lingered on the king and his daughter with a mix of fascination...none dared to speak about it, for in this kingdom, the taboo of incest was something done by generations.
King Charles called for his most trusted advisors, men who had served him since his early reign. He knew their faces like he knew the lines of his own hand. They gathered in his private chamber, the candlelight flickering shadows on their concerned faces.
"I find myself... drawn to Isabella," he confessed, his voice tight with emotion. "Her beauty, her grace... she is the mirror of her mother. I cannot resist her allure."
The advisors exchanged uncomfortable glances. "Your Highness," one spoke tentatively, "though it is not unheard of in our lands for such relationships to exist, are you sure you want to couple with your daughter?"
The king waved a dismissive hand.
"I am," he said, his eyes dark with passion.
The advisors nodded solemnly, understanding.
"Your Highness," the eldest advisor spoke up, "we are not here to judge your desires. We are here to advise and guide you. Should you wish to pursue this... relationship, it would be wise to tread carefully."
The king leaned back in his throne, stroking his beard thoughtfully.
"I will not hide my love for her," he declared.
The advisors murmured among themselves, knowing full well that once the king had made up his mind, there was little they could do to sway him.

A few weeks later, Isabella entered her chambers, on her bed she found roses and chocolate.
Her lady's maid, Mrs. Cope, noticed her distress and approached her, curiosity etched on her kind face. "Is everything all right, my lady?"
Isabella picked up a rose, its velvety petals soft against her skin. "Look what Father has sent me again," she said, her voice trembling. "I do not know what to do."
Mrs. Cope's smile widened at the sight of the decadent chocolates and fragrant bouquet. "It seems the king's affection for you has grown," she said carefully, placing a comforting hand on the princess's shoulder.
Isabella's eyes searched the maid's face, looking for a shred of understanding. "What am I to do, Mrs. Cope?" she whispered, her voice laced with confusion.
