Flurry of Flusters

Chapter 1

Summary:

First day in Pelican Town.

Chapter Text

It was the Farmer’s first real day in Pelican Town. She had been so busy clearing up weeds that the days had gotten away from her, the farm was bigger than she had anticipated but at least the work was rewarding. Seeing the farm take shape before her own eyes made her feel more alive than she had in years.

Her overalls were still dusty from this morning’s chores, but she was determined to make it into town before nightfall. She adjusted her glasses, patted herself off and hoped a bright smile would distract the townsfolk from the all the grime.

The walk into town was quiet, it was a beautiful spring day. The trees were blooming and she picked a few wild flowers on the way – might as well try to make as good an impression as she could.

Even from a distance she could see Pelican Town was far from the hustle and bustle she knew before. It seemed like the perfect place to slow down, possibly the right place to settle down if push came to shove.

The streets were empty as she made her way past windows filled with flowers and gardens carefully tended. She barely had time to stop as a door swung open in front of her.

Her eyes were wide and her breath caught in her throat as she saw the brown curls catch the light of the sun.

A gasp escaped his mouth as he turned and saw the Farmer standing there. He was flustered but took a moment to compose himself. As he pushed up his glasses, he extended his hand toward her.

Before he could utter a word, the Farmer reached out and shook his hand, watching his eyes explore her face. Her voice was shaky, “I’m, I’m so sorry for the scare, I’m Avery, the new farmer in town.”

A smile broke across his face, “It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Harvey, the local doctor.”

It took a moment for either of them to realize they were still grasping one another’s hand. They looked down and quickly pulled back, their faces practically glowing with the heat of the moment.

Avery pushed up her glasses as she turned away. Before she could walk away, she heard Harvey start to speak, “Feel free to stop by my office if you’re ever feeling ill. You’re young though, you’ll probably stay healthy without trying.”

Walking quickly away, Avery nodded. Her legs felt like jelly and she hoped like hell to find a good excuse to make it into his office soon.
