Chapter 1: The End of the Beginning

Chapter Text

Asahi’s POV

Thursday, December 19th 2012 5:20 PM

It was a few minutes after practice when Kageyama had called Yamaguchi and Tsukishima over to where he and Hinata were. They'd all been acting really odd all practice and he couldn't tell what they were saying, but they all seemed scared. He watched for a few minutes before walking over to the other third years. “Hey, uh Daichi, Suga!” He called out to them with a smile. “Yeah?” Daichi handed Asahi a water bottle. “What do you think the first years are talking about?” Asahi glanced behind him at the first years who were now trying to get the sleeping Kei off the ground. “Why? Ya worried they're talking about you?” Suga chimed in before chugging his water. “What? No, I'm just worried about them!” Asahi stuck his hands up in defense. “Mhm…sure.” Daichi joined in on the “Making fun of Asahi” train. “Jeez! Anyways, can you two walk me home? You know how I get when—" "WE KNOW ASAHI! We know,” Suga and Daichi cut off Asahi’s rambling. “Ok, ok! Once we put up the stuff can we go?” Asahi put down his water bottle and began walking to the net.

Throughout cleaning up the gym, Asahi kept stealing glances at the first years who were halfway putting up the stuff. They had been acting weird for a few days, Tsukishima was less salty to everyone, more tired than usual, and had been checking his phone constantly, Kageyama was WAY more touchy with Yamaguchi and Hinata than before, Yamaguchi was even more anxious than before, if that's even possible, and Hinata seemed less energetic, and he stopped bickering with Kageyama as much. As much of a “Wimp” (DAICHI’S WORDS) he may be, this time something really felt wrong. But as always, Asahi was too much of a coward to go up to the first years and ask what's wrong. He just went back to cleaning up like normal, even if the voices in the back of his head were gnawing at him to “SAY SOMETHING, YOU COWARD!”

Around 5:25, the first years just walked out of the gym. They had almost finished cleaning up, but it seemed like they were in a rush. Asahi stared at the door where they had last been. He sighed and walked back over to Suga and Daichi, who seemed to also notice the first years absence. “Hey, I'm kinda worried about them.” Sugawara sighed, going to put up his broom. “Yeah, but uhm… can we go now?” Asahi muttered. Suga and Daichi rolled their eyes but started walking out of the gym.

Kageyama's POV

Thursday, December 19th 2012 5:20 PM

Ever since about last month, Kageyama and the other first years had been planning to finally escape and go to Korea. It's not an ideal place, but it's better than being here. Kageyama was talking to Hinata about when they should do it. “I mean, if we do it next monday we can be totally prepared!” Hinata mused. “But considering Yamaguchi's situation, I'm not sure he'll make it to next week.” Kageyama wore their thinking face as he spoke. He turned around to where Tsukishima and Yamaguchi were standing. “Hey! Tsukishima, Yamaguchi, over here!” They yelled, making a come here motion using his entire body. Yamaguchi dragged the half awake Tsukishima over. “Hey, did you need us?” He asked. “When should we go through with this? If we consider everyone's situations.”

Kageyama raised an eyebrow at Tsukishima. “What's up with him? I know he's always tired nowadays, but this time he's like, stupid tired.” Yamaguchi looked back at Tsukishima, who was looking to see who was the closest to him. “Tsukki, you good?” Hinata asked while stifling a giggle like a mom talking to her toddler. “Mmngh…” Tsukishima grabbed onto Yamaguchi and patted around his face. After a ‘strict’ pat down from Tsukishima, who had to decipher if he was real, Yamaguchi just lightly patted his head and responded to Kageyama. “Akiteru’s been wearing him out, and his mom's not being any better.” Kageyama and Hinata made an “Ohhhh” sound before continuing their conversation. “I can survive until next week, and I think Tsukki can too, right Tsukki?” Yamaguchi looked up like he was expecting an answer.

“Hinata, please tap on Tsukishima's shoulder.” Hinata immediately tapped Tsukishima’s arm, which got him up fairly quickly. “Yeah?” Tsukishima sleepily responded. “Are you able to go through with the plan next week? So we can plan ahead.” Hinata inquired. “Yeah, I guess. When do we go home again? I miss my bed” Tsukishima whined. “Jeez, Tsukishima. You're acting like a baby!” Hinata laughed. “Shhh… when are we going home?” Tsukishima put his finger over Hinata's mouth, making everyone laugh. “I think we're going home in like 20 minutes when we finish cleaning the gym” Yamaguchi took Tsukishima's finger away from Hinata's mouth. “We leave in five minutes.” Tsukishima announced. “Kei, no. We can't just!—Y’know what? I'm tired. We’ll leave in 5 minutes.” Kageyama sighed, knowing he was unable to reason with a sleepy Kei.

They moved as a group and began cleaning up (half-assedly, he must admit, but still cleaning) after about five minutes, Kageyama tapped Tsukishima on the shoulder. “Tsukishima.” They mumbled just loud enough for the blonde to hear. “Yes?” Tsukishima slurred. “Let's go, Yamaguchi and Hinata are ready to go home.” Tsukishima grinned and put down his broom. “You're excited.” Kageyama smiled gently. “No, I'm tired. My mother won't be home until late.” Tsukishima stretched. He suddenly perked up with an idea. “Hey Hinata! Let's walk home together. Stay at my place for the night and maybe Akiteru will leave me alone.” Tsukishima leaned back on Hinata's head. “You're so uncharacteristically nice today, but sure! It's better than being at home any day.” Hinata smiled. Then they both walked out of the gym, leaving Kageyama and Yamaguchi behind. “Jeez, wait up for us!” Yamaguchi yelled, dragging Kageyama behind him…

Tsukishima’s POV

Thursday, December 19th 2012 5:30 PM

Tsukishima and Hinata were home and were both extremely tired. Hinata opened the door and looked around. Kei stood just outside, and when Hinata turned around and put a finger to his mouth he knew Akiteru was home. As much as they “hated each other” inside of school, Hinata and Tsukishima were pretty close outside of school. They even made a few signals to tell whether Akiteru, his mom, or neither were home. Tsukishima took a deep breath and crouched down. Akiteru usually sat on the couch that had its back facing the door which made it easier for the two to sneak in.

Tsukishima is honestly so happy his mother isn't here. Whenever she is, she calls him out when he's trying to sneak in, and she tries to act like Akiteru is a saint. She's always talking about “Tsukishima honey, just because of that ONE incident in elementary school, you can't just paint your brother as some kind of predator! It's just not right.” Like he isn't one! Anyways, they snuck behind the couch again without a noise and went up the stairs as quietly as they could.

As soon as they got into Tsukishima's room he closed the door but didn't lock it. Instead, he barricaded it with his nightstand, it wasn't a lot, but it would keep Akiteru outside and maybe he'd get the hint. “Ok, so let's go over this one more time because you keep falling asleep when we talk about it.” Hinata said, jumping onto Tsukishima's bed. “Before we start, can I take my shower?” Tsukishima didn't wait for an answer and just walked inside of his bathroom. “Sure! You could've waited!” Hinata whined, throwing his bag on the bed and going through it to get his phone.

About 20 minutes later Tsukishima came out in new clothes. “Are you ready now?” Hinata rolled his eyes and rolled around on his bed as Kei walked over and sat down on the bed. “Yes Hinata, I'm ready to listen.” Kei sighed. “Ok, so we're going to avoid practice all week, then—” “WHY are we skipping practice?” Kei interjected, raising an eyebrow. “So they know what to expect.” Hinata answered. “And what happens if we run into someone on the team?” Tsukishima moved closer to Hinata, resting his head on his shoulder. “Oh, we just run, or ignore them.” Hinata giggled.

“Ok, back to what I was saying. We don't go to practice, and we pack all our clothes up, Yamaguchi can steal some money from his dad, Kageyama will slip into Miwa’s purse for a sixty, you'll take all of Akiteru’s money, he deserves it, and I have money saved up. Next, we're gonna leave the club Friday. Then, Yamaguchi is picking us up at 3 am Monday with the car his dad gave him, a Honda CR-V. Rich people” Hinata rolled his eyes. “By the way we're going to Korea, we spun a wheel and it landed there.” He lightly tapped Tsukishima’s nose

“Alright.” Tsukishima nodded. “Also bring blankets, a bunch of them. And pillows!” Hinata grinned, then pulled Tsukishima down with him onto the bed. “That's all we've got so far. I'm tired, let's go to bed!” He cuddled up to Tsukishima, who just hugged him. “Don't worry Sho, We'll be out of here before you know it. We'll be free.” Tsukishima whispered, playing with Hinata's hair. “I know Kei, I know..” Hinata mumbled. “It's gonna be ok.” Hinata assured, mainly to himself, but he'd be glad if Tsukishima heard it too. “Goodnight, Shoyo.” Tsukishima buried his face in Shoyo’s hair. “Night!” Hinata hugged him tighter.

About an hour later, Tsukishima woke up to Hinata frantically shaking him. “Kei, Kei!” Hinata sounded panicked, so naturally Tsukishima shot up. “Sho, sho, calm down, you're hyperventilating. What's wrong?” He rubbed Hinata's arms. “I woke up, right? And I see that the-the doors open and- and Akiteru's just— he's just standing there with a pervy smirk on his face! He's got his phone out and I-I don't know but he's been recording us! He's got flash on for some reason, and I'm scared! But he ran off when he noticed I saw him! Is this normal? Jesus Christ your brother is a creep!”

Hinata started to curl into himself, Tsukishima just rubbed his back ”Yeah, I know. It's ok, look. Look at me.” Tsukishima kept his voice steady, in reality he was just as scared as Hinata. When Hinata looked up at him with teary eyes, Tsukishima cupped his face. “Hey, it's ok. Nobody’s gonna see that video—well… I'm wrong, someone's probably gonna pay to have it, but uh, at least us sleeping cuddled up together is worth at least $100!” Tsukishima showed a lopsided grin.

“Not the time for jokes Kei! I'm scared about everything! I mean, we're 4 teenagers for God's sake! What happens if we get caught? How will the team feel?” Hinata leaned on Tsukishima. “And now your brother filming us sleeping! What if he's getting off to it? He probably is!” Hinata buried his face in his hands. “Oh my god ewww, I don't wanna think about your brother getting his rocks off to us!” He got off of Tsukishima and started rolling on the floor with his hands still on his face.

“Look, at least you didn't have to strip naked at 13 and watch Akiteru get off to me in real time.” Tsukishima blurted. “Oh yeah, you do have an illicit and incestual relationship with your older brother! . . . Yikes.” Hinata made an awkward face. “Oh, that helps a lot, thank you.” Tsukishima sarcastically replied, picking Shoyo up and putting him back on the bed. “I'm serious, that's gross. Like, I could never imagine being bare booty naked in front of Akiteru, and then having to watch him get off to naked me. And I'm assuming you had to like touch yourself, or did he like touch you?”

Hinata asked. Tsukishima knew he was being curious, but it was weird to talk about it. “Jesus shrimpy, both happened. Can we go back to bed?” Tsukishima pleaded, hugging Hinata's waist. “No, I'm scared he'll do it again!” Tsukishima groaned. “Oh come on! I'll cover your body from the door.” Tsukishima lightly rubbed up his arms. “Hm… fine!” Hinata smiled cheekily before laying down. Tsukishima laid down beside him. After a few minutes of silence, Tsukishima suddenly spoke up “Are you nervous? Or at least scared?”

Hinata sighed. “Terrified, actually. But I'm sure we'll be ok” Tsukishima nodded. “Yeah, I wonder how Kageyama and Yamaguchi are doing right now…” Hinata started talking, and when he starts, he won't stop. So Tsukishima took it upon himself to get Hinata to zip it. Nicely, of course. “Shrimpy.” Tsukishima began to tap Hinata's cheek, which didn't help. “Hinata.” The tapping turned into light hitting. Tsukishima wouldn't go any further than that, knowing that he wouldn't get a positive reaction at all. “Shoyo!” That seemed to make Hinata stop.

“Yeah?” Hinata looked up at Tsukishima. “Shh, go to sleep.” Tsukishima dragged his hands across the gingers face jokingly. “Only if you go to sleep too!” Hinata giggled. “Ok, whatever. Goodnight.” Tsukishima falsely yawned and closed his eyes while still dragging his hands over Hinata's face. “Hey! You're not sleeping, your hands are still rubbing on my face! Stop!” Hinata was laughing like a little girl. “Come on, we gotta get ready for tomorrow!” He stopped Tsukishima's hand. “Alright, Alright. Let's actually go to sleep now”

Tsukishima rolled over, closing his eyes. He could only assume Hinata did the same. After a bit, Tsukishima fell asleep.
