Work Text:
For as long as he can remember, the Warrior was just that. A warrior who devastated everything that came near his path.
It started early when he hatched from his egg, learning to survive in a harsh world when he was very young. He always looked towards other members of his kind for advice, watching them every time he could and making sure he understood everything.
It started getting easy from there. Getting into fights, learning and adapting to every foe he faced, forming strategies and tactics to emerge victorious.
And as that proved to work, he grew older, becoming more and more powerful as he marched forth and cemented himself as the king of all monsterkind…ruling over the world he had claimed as his home.
But then came the extinction, and awakening in a world different then the one he knew. Where the small creatures ruled and used their creations for war and death, leading to the destruction of his entire race, gone to the flames as if they never were.
For the Warrior, rage became his only emotion henceforth.
War had begun on the small creatures.
But then things got more chaotic as the years passed, such as becoming trapped in ice, and waking up in another time. Mechanical chickens, smog monsters, spiders and creatures from beyond in a battle for the fate of the planet against invading forces…it all felt like a blur to him, each battle he had become one with how fast everything felt for him.
Which all culminated in a meeting with a younger member of his kind…a surviving youngling, pleading him to stop his crusade of flames and sorrow.
And…he can’t believe it still, but he accepted. And took the young cub in to raise him as his own. Partly because he sensed a genuine need for forgiveness, and partly because he was just plain exhausted after all he went through.
Stranger still, even after it all, some kind of anomaly opened up. An entrance to another world, where Titans live freely with humans, and having their own king and rul-
“Warrior.”
…speaking of which.
The Warrior had been resting just near the shores of a small island, the sun setting when a familiar and deep voice spoke his name…it was the Titan.
He looked like a member of his kind, but with some differences. The pink spines being the most obvious one, yet the Warrior had seen at least a few with that trait, so it wasn’t too big.
Plus, he’ll secretly admit, they looked…nice.
“Titan.” The Warrior replied, his voice slightly positive even with his snarling sound.
The Titan was just as fierce as the Warrior was, his appearance suggesting he’s been around for as long as the Warrior himself had been. Wise and powerful, faint scars that could be seen if one looked just close enough.
Scars that made even the Warrior impressed.
That impressiveness wasn’t exactly there when the two first met, when the Warrior and his cub had found themselves in this other world. The Titan had sensed an imbalance, and soon crossed paths with the fierce Warrior.
It seemed both were expecting to not particularly like each other, given the Titan’s need for peace and balance, which clashed with the other’s rage and fighting spirit…
…it’s something the Warrior noticed.
For why, just why, is he feeling…different?
Why, over the last few months, has he been feeling positive when he sees the Titan visit him?
“Is your cub asleep?” The Titan inquired, tilting his head towards the Warrior.
For which in return, the Warrior nods, pausing his thoughts. “He’s resting in the cave system nearby. The little one spent the entire day eating all the fruits he could find on the island.”
“Hm.” The Titan nodded, before faintly yawning. Seems he’s had a busy day today, from the looks of it.
Shortly afterwards, he began to move closer to the Warrior, getting down on all fours in the sands below them and flopped onto the ground, laying next to the other.
“Tired?” The Warrior asked.
“You would not believe it.” The Titan huffed. “The ape and his ice friend needed my help with moving boulders, and after that, Mothra called out for me to solve a dispute with the sea serpent-”
“Didn’t you once say you killed her?”
“Yes.” He raised a claw. “But she regenerated, and we’re on better terms now.”
“...right.”
“Believe me, Mothra made sure to prevent me from being too aggressive.” The Titan gazed towards the sun, smiling. “She knows me too well.”
All the Warrior does is nod. He’s heard the Titan speak of Mothra fondly many times during his visits, as she’s cared for the Titan since he was…a small Titan, really. The Warrior thinks of the Mothra who helped him during the war for Earth. He thinks of what she was like…
…he thinks of…
“Are you alright?”
The Warrior snapped out of his small thinking space, looking at the Titan closely in the eyes.
Scorching fire gazing into faded amber.
“I-I’m fine.” He plays it cool, acting all defensive and harsh. “Why are YOU so worried about me, huh?”
“...I’m merely concerned.” The Titan sees right through it.
Widening his eyes for a moment, taking his look off from him, then back again for a few seconds. “It’s…it’s none of your business, so I suggest you stop before I tear you apart with my bare claws!
I…I will, err…”
Flaming hell, he ran out of threats. Now he’s got no choice but to do something actually difficult:
Admit something.
“You’ll…?” The Titan raised an eye, leaning his head closer to the Warrior.
And all the Warrior can in return, is stare defeatedly and groan.
“Ever since I’ve arrived in this world, ever since you started visiting me, I’ve been feeling different.” He places a claw on his own chest. “Something inside me that’s going against the very nature of which I follow, something that doesn’t feel…right, somehow.”
The Titan raised an eye. “What do you think is causing it, then?”
“Well…” He bowed his head. “I think it’s you.”
“How do-”
“NOT IN A BAD WAY.” The Warrior blurted out, racing to find his words before gazing away from the Titan.
“At least, not now…it started out like that.
I hated you, every part of you. I bowed to no-one, for I am king! I wanted to prove I was truly the alpha of all, I didn’t want to seek this balance you oh-so wish to keep up…I wanted to FIGHT and KILL and DESTROY to protect my title and my cub…
…but then, I started listening to you. All the times we’ve spoken, that visit to the volcano of the fire bird to meeting the apes. I’ve seen you fight when we battle alongside those who seek to ruin the peace of this world…the way you fight, you talk, how calm and reassuring you are.
I don’t know why, but I’ve been…feeling something towards you. Something beyond my understanding. Something beyond the emotions I feel to battle. Something-”
“Like love?”
The Warrior’s eyes widened in shock, as he faced the Titan again, who had seemingly figured it out too with an equal face of surprise.
But not an angry surprise, much to the Warrior’s confusion.
“...by the fires…” He muttered faintly to himself, placing a claw on his head and trying to scratch it while his tail began to sway. “...I think that’s it.
I think I do…actually…love you.
My heart is beating and scorching when I see you, and I can’t stop gritting my teeth for a smile, and my tail keeps moving and it won’t stop and I don’t know WHY IT’S DOING THAT, MY EARS PERK UP WHEN I HEAR YOU ROAR AND I…I-I-”
The wall hiding his feelings has been smashed down into rubble now, with the Warrior nervously letting out his feelings all at once, hiding his blush as he looked down at the sand and away from the Titan that won his heart.
This couldn’t be! His whole life, fighting in his youth, climbing to the top and getting stronger and becoming king of all…all dashed away with the feeling of LOVE…he didn’t even HATE IT, because he feels so embarrassed about it all!
He was ruined!
Absolutely, terribly, rui-
“WARRIOR.”
He stopped for a moment, huffing and taking deep breaths, his snout inches into the sand as his head rose up to hear a stern yet gentle voice…the other beside him still.
Who looked quite off too, his eyes shifting to the side as well.
With a…smile.
And with no words left, the Titan leaned in, giving the side of the Warrior’s head a gentle lick. Before nuzzling it softly, with a calming growl.
“I…” He starts to admit. “...I think I feel the same for you.”
The Warrior almost gasped, but all he could do in return was growl, and grab onto the Titan while on the ground and rest his head near his chest. Just to relax his head from all the emotions swimming around, the joy, the shock and everything in between.
With the Titan simply putting his claw around him, their tails curling around one another while they moved their heads and gazed into each other’s eyes again…a faint smile blooming on their snouts.
“For a being with such rage and anger like me…you’re oddly adorable when you’re furious.” The Titan huffed happily.
The Warrior growled. “I…I’ve hid these feelings for so long, that I…I don’t know how to go from here. I feel happy, but I feel…mad. My blood almost boils, because I need to protect you and the cub…how do I process this?”
“We’ll work through it.” He reassured, as both monsters rose from the sand and got onto their knees, dusting whatever sand remained on their scales. “The leftover anger, the tempers, the moods…I haven’t dealt with them well yet, but I know we can do it.
You aren’t alone.”
And the Warrior…smiled, and nodded. “Let’s hope my cub doesn’t mind you staying for more times a day.”
And the two chuckled, leaning into one another to cool off their feelings while their tails stay curled around one another.
For which they know, through trial and error…they’ll work it out.
One roar at a time.
