And Now She's the Plain Brunette

Summary:

One day a year, on the anniversary of drinking the potion, your body reverts to how it was before any alterations have been made. It only lasts for 24 hours. Viola did mention that, some people just don't remember, or weren't paying close attention...

Work Text:

Some things remain consistent, even after taking an elixir of eternal youth. Such as Madeline sleeping in until the sun reached its peak and bothered her enough to force her out of bed and start her day.

Helen remained the complete opposite. She rose at the crack of dawn to read, enjoy a beverage of choice and the rare moment of silence without her person chirping in her ear about whatever was on her mind at the time.

She sipped her morning mimosa slowly to savor it and the current book she was reading Haunting Adeline, recommended to her by her publisher.

The champagne flute cracked instantly from the ear-rupturing scream escaping the master bedroom. Helen's eyes almost popped out of their socket as a result.

“Mad!”

No response. The screaming simply continued.

“Madeline! What's going on?” Helen yelled as she ascended the grand staircase.

Her mind often raced through insane and inaccurate thoughts throughout the day, but when Madeline had an explosive (over)reaction, her mind melted with panic.

The redhead made it to the top of the stairs and composed herself in preparation to handle whatever mess she was about to step into. The blood curdling screeching continued, to her displeasure.

Even when she wasn't trying, Madeline's voice could echo throughout the entire mansion.

Helen took a deep breath in out of habit and slowly peaked through the door into their shared bedroom.

“Okay. Mad, what could possibly be the cause for all these theatrics? You even shattered my favorite breakfast glass-” She was about to continue and list off the potential causes of Madeline's crash out, but she was too stunned to speak.

Helen stared at Madeline intensely investigating her reflection in the hand mirror they kept on the nightstand.

“Ohhhhhh.” The redhead muttered.

Madeline moved the mirror to make eye contact with her person. “Ohhhhh?!!!” She screeched as she held onto her now brown hair, split ends scattered about.

Helen made her way over to the bed and sat next to Madeline. She held her in place and began rubbing her back attempting to calm her.

“You didn't mean to do this?” Helen chuckled under her breath. She didn't mean to joke, but she attempted humor in any uncomfortable situation.

The redhead moved Madeline's head into the crevice of her shoulder to comfort her. She knew exactly what was happening to her.

“I'm going to assume Viola didn't mention this to you. Or she did and you maybe…weren't paying very close attention…”

Madeline popped her head up and faced Helen.

“How dare you? The potion’s worn off and I'm dying and you're throwing around fucking jokes?!”

“Mad, the potion isn-” She was cut off by the brunette’s continued crash out.

She picked up the hand mirror and pulled on her crow's feet, smile lines and now smaller breasts.

“Look at me! Well actually don't. This is how I go. As a plain brunette, with small boobs and wrinkles.”

She slumped back into Helen, tears filling her dull eyes.

“Your natural boobs always looked really good. These are just them before all the filler and implants.”

Helen began caressing Madeline's brown curls. “Please let me explain before you scream again.” She put her finger over Mad's now chapped thinner lips.

Madeline took a deep breath and leaned into Helen for comfort, her eyes wide with hope and curiosity.

“If you were actually paying attention when Viola was going over the terms and conditions of the potion, you'd know that once every year on the anniversary of when you first took the potion, your body reverts back to how it naturally was before all the changes you put it through.”

Helen traced her thumb over Madeline's chin. “Like before all the hair dye and lip injections?” Her puppy dog eyes met Helen's perfect emerald ones.

“Exactly, my darling. And it only lasts the day. At midnight, everything goes back to how it was yesterday. Viola said it's giving your body a break from the potion’s effects.”

Madeline sat up quickly to reply, “Like when I have to turn your laptop on and off when I accidentally overheat it from online shopping?” She grabbed Helen's freshly manicured french tips and held onto her to allow herself to finally relax.

“Exactly! Wait, when did you overheat my laptop?” Hel agreed and then her eyes widened when she fully processed what Mad said.

Madeline leaned in to kiss her person softly on the lips and rubbed her cheeks with her unmanicured thumbs. She usually did this when she wanted to distract Helen quickly. A little kiss always did the trick.

“That's not important, my love! What is, is that I'm not stuck as this! I couldn't deal with looking like this longer than I have to. And I wouldn't want to subject you to past Madeline.” She chuckled nervously, hoping Helen would join in.

Helen held onto the side of Madeline's face, tightly out of affection and stared into her eyes. Mad felt like she was about to melt away from just a single glance from the redhead.

“Madeline Ashton. I need you to understand that I love you no matter what. Even if you were still a brunette and didn't get all that work done on yourself. You are positively beautiful inside and out.” She lowered Mad's chin and kissed her forehead, leaving behind a little red lipstick residue.

“Really and truly? You're not just saying that?” Her eyes widened, waiting for an answer.

“I'm simply grateful I get to spend eternity with you. No matter what you look like. I don't know why you got implants anyway, you had so much to work with before.” Helen gently squeezed her ass and grinned, lightly kissing the top of Madeline's breasts.

She always enjoyed making Mad giggle like a schoolgirl, although it wasn't a hard task.

“How about I put my old glasses on? Would that make you feel any better?”

Madeline glowed with joy, even without the potion’s effects. “The thick black ones?!”

“Yes, those ones. I always wear them when I'm reading in the morning. You're just never awake to notice.” She affectionately rolled her eyes.

“Then I suggest you wear them more often. You know, I always loved when you wore them back in the day.” The brunette bit her lip.

“Oh, did you now? I didn't know Madeline Ashton had a glasses kink,” chuckled Helen.

“Shut up…you probably have embarrassing kinks too, Helen Sharp. And I have eternity to find out what they are.”

Madeline pulled her in for a kiss, more passionate and rough than before. All Mad needed was a little reassurance and a few dozen kisses.
