Summary:

I'm hyper-fixated on this series and on this ship so I'll take advantage of every opportunity that appears from these two interacting to fit a romance

Work Text:

Look, although many call Alfie a crazy Jew, the truth is that he is a traditional guy, very religious and a member of society who pays taxes.

It's no wonder that he has one of the highest-grossing and most successful bakeries in the country. And when Thomas Shelby walked in and said that his whiskey was "not bad", he knew, Alfie knew that that guy was trouble.

And Thomas, he had been shot, huh, and that bleeding eye? It made it even easier to focus on those blue eyes.

And when he sat in my living room as if he were on vacation? That calmness while talking about business at the same time that I seriously considered shooting him? And then he was the crazy one.

So yes, maybe it was luck, or bad luck, but he fell under the curse that was that voice, those promises of a profitable business, that certainty that he was the missing piece, that you needed him, that Thomas Shelby was the solution to your problems.

They talk for an hour, and Alfie, a man of traditions and beliefs, follows his instinct, after all, they are not barbarians, there is still decency in this world, and in addition to hospitality, he gives a packet of salt, something about good luck, good business and prosperity - who knows? That's the magic of traditions.

And Tommy? He stares at the salt for a moment, takes it and even has the audacity to ask if he should spread it around. Something about scaring away spirits.

Look mate, I just have to give you the salt like a good host, okay? What you do next is your business and with a hurried gesture of his hands Alfie leads them out.

Tommy, walking right behind after putting the salt inside his coat, just says: well, I'll eat it with bread when I get to Birmingham and shrugs.

Alfie says nothing and they reach the door and say goodbye with a handshake.

On the road, Tommy wonders how Alfie would react if he knew that for the gypsies, salt symbolizes prosperity and union, especially during wedding ceremonies, salt being the difficulties and challenges that the couple may face.

With that thought in mind, Tommy smiles his second smile in the last three months and falls asleep.

Notes:

That was lovely I know

I was super curious about that comment at the end of the episode and guess what, it really is a business.

And also, that smile that Tommy gives when Alfie offers the bread/whiskey? Adorable
