Work Text:
You felt bad today, and you collapsed into bed after work, hiding yourself away in the covers. You just wanted to hide away from the world.
Everything felt so wrong to you- the way your voice sounds, how you look in the mirror, the way your clothes fit, the way you were constantly misgendered by others. It was one of those days where you want to rip your skin off and never be perceived again.
Here you were curled up in your bed, crying softly as you heard the door open and Matt walk in.
“Hey handsome” You heard Matt say as he slinks into bed and under the covers with you. “Bad day today?”
You don’t have the effort to respond much so you just cuddle into Matt and sigh softly. He wraps his arms around you and kisses your forehead. “My handsome boy.”
Matt always knew what to say and do to make you feel better and you couldn’t be luckier than to have him as your partener.
“Talk to me, love,” Matt whispered, inviting you to talk to him.
You sniff and wipe your tears on the sleeve of your baggy hoodie.
“I just feel so crappy today, Matt.” You pause before continuing, “I just feel so wrong all the time and like I’m pretending to be someone I’m not. I feel like I’m just spare parts in a body that doesn’t feel like it’s mine. I just want to look in the mirror and see myself. I’m so sick of feeling like this all the time.” You vent.
Matt’s expression looks pained as he processes your words. It upsets him to hear you struggling with yourself so much. “I’m sorry that you feel like that, my angel.” He stops to wipe away tears falling from your eyes before continuing. “You’ll always be a man to me. It doesn’t matter to me what body you have or parts you have, you’ll always be my handsome boyfriend.”
“Thanks” You whisper. Matt gives you another forehead kiss and you lay your head on his cheat, listening to his heartbeat.
You stay silent for a while, soaking up each other’s presence before matt says, “I love you, my handsome boy.” and you blush in response, matt rubs your back soothingly. His gentleness makes you want to cry again.
“I love you too, Matty.” You respond.
You guys continue to lay there in each other’s embrace. He starts whispering compliments to you and you smile a bit. Even though you don’t feel all better, you do feel a bit better. And you know that you have a loving boyfriend to be with you and comfort you every step of the way no matter what day you’re having. You were the luckiest man in the world to have Matt Murdock as a boyfriend.
