Secret Affairs

Summary:

Jung Hoseok is one of South Korea's most famous baseball-stars and his girlfriend, model Kim Hyeri, thinks he might be cheating on her. She hires private detective Min Yoongi to find out the truth - and little did Yoongi know that he would fall in love with Hoseok's secret affair, an awfully endearing boy named Park Jimin.

Notes:

This story is part of sugainmycoffee's yoonmin-bingo on tumblr.
Week 2.

It's a Detective AU this time, and I actually didn't have the time to look things up. So I don't know if private eyes really work like this, I just followed with what made the most logical sense to me. If I made any mistakes, don't hesitate to tell me, I appreciate the help!~

(Fun fact, I googled famous South Korean sports for Hoseok's career, and baseball and football are highly popular. I found that quite interesting.)

Anyway, enjoy reading my fic~ :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Day 65:

Rule number one: Never get attached.

Yoongi doesn’t know when he broke his own rule - the most important one of them all, on top of that, too - but lying in his way too small bed, awake at the crack ass of dawn, looking down on the boy sleeping soundly besides him, makes him realize that he is fucked.

Quite literally.

God fucking dammit!

Because that boy is gorgeous. He knows. He had enough time to figure that out. But the boy is part of the job, and his job is definitely not to bring goddamn feelings into this!

Although… after everything that happened…

The boy got disappointed and he is all alone…

Yoongi catches himself getting his hopes up, because the two of them might have a chance after all, and he mentally slaps himself for his weak resolve. The boy knows nothing. As soon as Yoongi tells him the truth, he’ll be disappointed and leave.

Rule number one, never get attached.

Yoongi looks down on the boy besides him, studies his sleeping face, how peaceful he looks, orange locks tousled, long lashes fanning over high cheekbones, plump lips pursed a little as his cheek bunches against the pillow. The area around his eyes is still a little swollen from his crying the night before, but he’s painfully beautiful nonetheless.

Yoongi feels his heart aching in his chest, as if it wants to crawl up his throat and spill all his feelings out to the beautiful boy, all his adoration, his… love and Yoongi…

Yoongi is horrified.

The boy will leave as soon as he finds out the truth.

Never get attached.

Yoongi turns around in his bed, because he can’t stand to look at the boy any second longer.

He’ll wait until to younger wakes up.

And he’ll tell him the truth, then.

The boy will reject Yoongi, because Yoongi will probably – no, definitely – hurt him, hurt him deeply, but it’ll be for the best.

Yoongi isn’t allowed to get attached.

Day 0:

“I hope you’re really as good at your job as rumour suggests.”

The young woman crosses her legs and picks at her perfectly manicured nails, her expression one of pure boredom and scepticism as she looks around his little, run-down bureau, before her eyes land on him sitting behind his desk.

The look she shoots him is down-right dirty, and Yoongi doesn’t like her one bit already. But she is a customer and she has money he desperately needs and as much as he hates it, he has to swallow his anger and be nice to her. At least for now.

“I can assure you, Miss Kim, I’m good at what I do. My success rate is flawless,” he reassures her, not entirely without pride and she gives him a cynical smile. Her cherry red coloured lips stretch to reveal perfectly straight, pearl-white teeth.

She is very pretty, Yoongi has to give her that. Her features are well proportioned and her skin is flawless and soft, eyes big and dark with a hint of innocence to them, auburn hair long and silky and falling over her delicate shoulders in elegant waves.

Kim Hyeri is not one of South-Korea’s most famous supermodels for nothing.

Still, as beautiful as she looks to the outside, Yoongi has already decided that he’s not very keen of her character. The arrogance and rudeness that often comes with great popularity is evident in everything she does.

“We’ll see about that. But I do think you should be able to help me. You’re a detective, right?”

“A private eye. Yes. My job is to find out about things that other people desperately try to hide in the dark. So, may I ask: How can I be of help?”

Yoongi leans forward in his seat a little, because this is where things get interesting. He is considered to be the best at his job, which is why a considerably large amount of his costumers rank among South Korea’s most famous and most influential celebrities.

People are always the same, though, no matter how high the numbers on their bank accounts are, so when Hyeri produces a photograph from her Moschino-bag and throws it on the table between them, Yoongi is not surprised by the familiar face that smiles up at him through the picture.

Jung Hoseok. Charismatic, smart, South Korea’s recent, most successful baseball-player.

And Hyeri’s boyfriend as of six months now.

“My objective is to observe him. To find out if he keeps any… explicit… secrets from you,” Yoongi hums and it’s a statement, not a question.

Hyeri actually looks surprised for a moment, before she catches herself and nods.

“I want to know if he cheats on me,” she states bluntly and gets her phone out of her bag.

“I mean, don’t get me wrong, our relationship is pretty much strategic. Our managements thought it would be a good idea to increase our popularity and famosity with making us date, so technically I don’t care if he sees someone else. It’s just that headlines about him having an affair would be bad publicity for me, too, so I just want to make sure that he can control his dick until we break up in a few months,” she explains further, while she looks for something on her phone.

“Min Yoongi, I want you to find out if my boyfriend is cheating on me. Hoseok and I are not as close as we should probably be, which is why he got careless or something, but I found this-” she finally finds what she’s been looking for and shows Yoongi a phone number on her display- “when I folded his clothes the other day. He apparently has a second phone and he didn’t tell me about it.”

She hesitates a little while Yoongi takes her phone to copy the number.

“I mean… It doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s cheating on me, he could be into sports betting or some other crazy stuff as well, but no matter what, him keeping secrets from me can’t be good. I just want to know what I’m getting myself into.”

Yoongi nods and gives her an actual smile.

“No problem, Kim Hyeri-ssi. It’s very good that you found out about the second phone, it makes the job much easier. In other cases I had much less to work with, so I’m very positive about the success of this operation.”

He stands up to bring his newest costumer to the door and Kim Hyeri looks relieved and even a little grateful.

Yoongi hands her his business-card and receives hers in return.

“I’m going to start my observation as of tomorrow and I’m going to inform you as soon as I make some discoveries. I also ask you to be available for possible questions that might arise throughout the process. I’m going to contact you, never the other way round, though! Understood? I need a certain amount of trust, please. I could do without any kind of disturbance,” he explains and Hyeri nods her head in acceptance.

The two give their farewell and the model leaves while Yoongi returns to his desk and calls up the number of Hoseok’s second phone.

He has no other cases at the moment, so Yoongi might as well start with the work immediately.

He needs to hack into that phone and that could take some while.

~~~
Day 1:
Step one: Get to know your target better. Their preferences and weaknesses, possible hobbies, where they go and what they eat, who they like and what they do. Habits.
Most important thing. Habits.
Habits are everybody’s Achilles’ heel, they come in a regular pattern and are always reliable. The easiest way to kill someone is to know their patterns. Which way the take to go to work. Their daily jogging routes. The little bakery they stop by every Tuesday to eat a chocolate muffin and drink coffee, black, no sugar.
Yoongi makes a new folder on his laptop and names it ‘Jung Hoseok’.
He starts to gather information then, from basically everywhere, social network platforms, fan-sites, news-articles, the SMSs and E-Mails on the other’s second phone and laptop. Hyeri was kind enough to give him the password to Hoseok’s other technical equipment as well.
Yoongi tries to be as careful and tactful as possible, though. It’s his job to gather information that is useful to him, not to nose around in Hoseok’s private life more than necessary. He’s also keen to do nothing illegal.
Hoseok didn’t register his second phone for obvious reasons – to not make Hyeri suspicious – so Yoongi can track it without getting himself into trouble. Same with the laptop. It may be Hoseok’s, but on the sale contract, it’s listed as the couple’s collective property, so Yoongi is enabled to look through it with just Hyeri’s approval and without Hoseok’s knowledge.
Yoongi makes a new WORD-document and writes every bit of information down.
Jung Hoseok, twenty-two. Baseball-player.
Family lives in Gwang-ju; mother, father and one younger sister. They seem to be on good terms. His target is definitely not a couch-potato, he’s always busy and on the run. He seems to love Starbucks, Dolce & Gabbana and Prada, as far as his online taxes tell.
He has taste, Yoongi has to give him that.
Hoseok likes to eat at the most famous Italian restaurant of town, he enjoys to watch movies at theatres late at night, because it’s dark and the possibilities of someone recognizing him are very low, he has baseball training every day from one pm to six pm, sometimes more, sometimes less, depending if there is an important match any time soon.
Yoongi finds out about all the little things and oddities that constitute Jung Hoseok, what he eats, where he goes, with whom he likes to spend his time. He finds out about all the regularities of the other’s daily life.
And because of that, he finds also out about the divergences. That he sometimes randomly spends money, to buy more clothes than usual, or a bouquet of flowers although Hyeri has a show in Milano and he has no possibility to send them to her, that he leaves his favourite Italian pizzeria hanging in favour of visiting a Chinese restaurant instead every once in a while. Yoongi looks Hoseok’s banking information up. There’s reserved for two, every time.
That he books a suite for two in one of Seoul’s most prestigious hotels every second or third weekend, although he tells Hyeri that they have intense training sessions and that he sleeps at a teammate’s house instead of coming home.
Yoongi finds out that Hoseok uses his second phone almost as often as his first, and that there’s only one number saved on it. Hoseok calls or messages ‘Ji~♥’ almost every day and if Yoongi had had even the slightest doubts about Hyeri’s concerns about a possible affair, they are definitely gone now.
Yoongi leans back in his desk chair, shutting his laptop with a satisfied sigh. It’s almost nine pm now, he has been gathering information for almost eight hours now. He’s quite pleased with what he found out already. Normally – without the information from the second phone, without his knowledge of Ji~♥ – this would take much longer.
The only thing that is now left is to gather more information about Hoseok’s ominous affair, gather proof, maybe shoot a few pictures. Yoongi picks Hoseok’s picture up and studies it with a small smile
This is going to be a piece of cake.
~~~

Day 4:

It’s the first time Yoongi gets to follow a live-conversation between Hoseok and Ji~♥ and things seem to be hopeful. The couple is shamelessly flirting with each other, throwing love-sick comments, heart-emojis and other, more explicit hints back and forth and Yoongi reads along on his laptop.

You:

Went to training today and couldn’t stop thinking about you ~

Ji ~♥ :

Oh stop it, you tease! ~ I’ll only start to miss you more, if you keep writing this cheesy stuff to me ~

Ji ~♥ :

(I secretly love it, though, don’t stop! :3)

You:

Don’t worry, I won’t. You’re so cute, babe, can’t wait to see you again.

Ji ~♥ :

Me too, Hobi… I know you’re busy and all, but when are we going to meet up again? It’s been so long! Ily<3<3

This continues for a while and Yoongi is starting to get bored. He has to admit, though, ‘Ji~♥’ seems to be a cute girl. She always tells Hoseok how much she misses him, how she appreciates to spend time with him. She also tells him that she loves him a couple of times, but Hoseok keeps his replies a bit wary.

It gets interesting half an hour later, when Hoseok tells Ji~♥ that Hyeri will be on a business trip to Hong Kong for the next week-end. Ji~♥ voices her concern about Hoseok’s girlfriend - she obviously feels guilty for doing this behind her back – but Hoseok reassures her that it’s okay, that their relationship is only for show (he’s actually not even lying) and that Hyeri is probably seeing other guys behind his back as well.

The couple ends their chat not long after, fixing a meeting and exchanging kissing-emojis and sweet words of good-bye.

Another half an hour later, Yoongi gets a notification that Hoseok made an online-transference.

He booked the Hotel-suite again, for next Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Yoongi throws a glance at his calendar, it’s Tuesday today. A few more days and he’ll be able to get the first pictures and more detailed information about the couple’s relationship.

Yoongi is totally ready for that.

~~~
Day 5:
‘Ji~♥’ is actually a boy, not a girl.
How embarrassing.
Even more embarrassing is how Yoongi found out, though. He had just finished dinner and was about to take a nap, when his phone started to vibrate in his pocket, signalling for him that Hoseok started to use his second phone.
Well, better safe than sorry, Yoongi had thought and picked his phone up to look at Hoseok’s new message.
Ji ~♥ :
Hobi!!!! I’m horny ~~
Oh shit! That’s definitely not what Yoongi had been expecting. Before he could get a hold of himself however, his phone buzzed again with Hoseok’s answer.
You:
Really, babe? Are you alone rn?
Ji ~♥ :
Yeah… ‘M lying on my bed, thinking about you… Gets me all hot and bothered…
You :
God, I wish I had the time to call you rn! But I’m in the middle of a briefing for the next match…
You:
Are you touching yourself, babe? Thinking about me, how good I’d make you feel?
Ji ~♥ :
Yes, omg Hobi!!
You:
Send some pictures, babe? To keep me through the remaining days, ‘til weekend?
Things were escalating and they were escalating quickly! It had been a while since Yoongi last had such an… active couple. ‘Ji~♥’ actually took her sweet time with sending a response and Yoongi was getting anxious. She wouldn’t really send pictures, right?
The answer came moments later in form of three photographs.
Yoongi almost dropped his phone in shock because this was really not what he had been expecting, at all. He had thought… because Hoseok was in a relationship with Hyeri… and ‘Ji~♥’ sounded really adorable and girly…
Frankly said, he had not expected to be greeted with a dick. A cute dick, to be honest, average in size, but thick and slightly curved, the tip leaking precome already. The first picture got taken from above, at a slightly tilted angle, so Hoseok – and, well, Yoongi, too – had the perfect view of its painfully erect state. One petite hand curled around the base of the cock and Yoongi really tried to keep it together, but holy shit, that hand was beautiful, all delicate fingers and trimmed nails, gently curved knuckles and fragile wrist.
Yoongi was never aware that he obviously had a thing for pretty hands until now. What the actual fuck.
The second and third picture were even worse, because they were shot from different angles and Yoongi actually got to see bits of a gorgeous, tanned body - a toned stomach and strong, muscular thighs. He found it actually horrible. Because these pics where not for him, they were sent in private to his target, Hoseok, and Yoongi should be way more professional.
Also, it’s quite embarrassing to say that you got turned on by your average dick pic. Not something to be proud of.
Hoseok’s reply had taken a while and honestly, Yoongi couldn’t blame him.
You:
Babe, you’re as hot as always. I just almost popped a boner in the middle of my briefing.
Ji ~♥ :
I’m like this because of you, Hobi ~~ <3
You:
Ofc, babe! Going on stand-by for now, but I’ll definitely jerk off to these pics later. Can’t wait to see you this weekend!
Ji ~♥ :
Omg, yes, me too, Hobi! I’m so excited to see you again… I’ll cum with your name on my lips now ~ ;)
Bye and I love ya ~ :*
The chat had died down after that, and Yoongi had felt frustrated, still stunned that Ji~♥ actually was a guy, and weirdly aroused, all at the same time. Aroused! What the actual fuck!
He had shut his phone down and just decided to act as if this never happened. He never saw this guy’s cute dick and he definitely never drooled over it, as well.
A few hours later though, after a good nap and getting some work done, he still hasn’t erased the pictures saved securely in his phone.
~~~

Day 8:

Three things happen on this quite eventful day.

First, Yoongi gets to see Ji~♥ for the first time, not just his dick, but the whole guy, full-sized, this time. The grey-haired male follows Hoseok to the usual Chinese restaurant and takes a seat near the other’s table, half hidden behind a few plants. The couple won’t be able to see him, but he has the perfect view of them.

Hoseok waits alone for a little while, ordering something to drink for two people, and after ten minutes, a boy around his twenties enters the restaurant.

Hoseok sits farther away from Yoongi, so the older can see his reaction clearly and the baseball-player’s face lights up as soon as he spots the newcomer.

Yoongi hates to admit it, but hot damn, that boy is gorgeous! Yoongi is a sucker for pretty, harmonious faces, and just like his hands, the boy’s features are delicate and well-proportioned. Gently curved eyebrows sit over dark, almond-shaped eyes that sparkle with vividness and mirth. High cheekbones define the shape of Ji’s face, cute button nose and chubby cheeks scrunching up a little as his plump, shiny lips stretch to a big, blinding smile.

His locks are coloured a shocking shade of orange, and it suits him surprisingly well. They are loosely styled back, but some strands still fall into his forehead.

Yoongi knew already, that the boy’s body was stunning, but his face… He was mesmerizing. Yoongi could stare at him for hours and he’d still be fascinated by his rare beauty.

This is ridiculous. Yoongi’s job is to observe Hoseok and the boy, not to develop feelings right off the bat. He needs to get his shit together, seriously!

The boy is none of his business, he should keep his fingers off of him.

Still… if this is all over… Maybe Ji will get tired of Hoseok, of all these lies… Maybe Yoongi could try his luck, then…

It’s embarrassing to admit, but yeah. Yoongi is smitten.

He watches as the boy practically skips over to the Hoseok’s table and Yoongi cranes his neck a little to get a better view of his profile when he almost jumps his lover, drawing the black-haired baseball-player into a bone-crushing hug.

The couple exchanges some mumbled words and a short but heated kiss, before they sit down again, the boy taking the seat opposite of Yoongi. He has his back to him now, but that also means he’s closer to Yoongi, and the grey-haired male can understand every quiet word perfectly when he listens closely enough.

It’s the second thing happening today. Yoongi hears the boy’s voice, for the first time.

It’s surprisingly high-pitched, but has a melodic, airy tone to it, like windbells and Yoongi suddenly wonders if they boy would be a great singer as well.

His laughter is giggly and light and somewhat contagious and Yoongi finds himself chuckling along quietly.

“It’s so good to finally see you again, Hobi-hyung! I’ve been missing you,” the boy says and Hoseok smiles self-satisfied, reaching across the table to grab the other’s hand.

“I’ve missed you too, babe. I can’t wait to spend the weekend with you.”

His tone gets a little husky, eyes darkening and it’s quite obvious what he suggests. Ji stutters a little, tips of his cute ears turning slightly pink.

Yoongi is disappointed all of a sudden, that he can’t see the boy’s face, because he must look absolutely endearing, all flustered and shy.

The two make small-talk for a little while, talking about their week and stuff. Ji asks if he should feel bad for Hyeri – he really seems to be worried for her – but Hoseok just waves him off. Thereupon, Ji wants to know if Hoseok will finally leave her and make their relationship official, because the younger is tired of hiding, but the back-haired male denies him that, as well.

The boy doesn’t nag him further after that, but Yoongi gets slightly irritated.

He watches the pair for a little over a week now, but he gets the feel already, that Ji puts much more into this relationship than Hoseok. It wouldn’t be the first time for Yoongi to watch couples break it off because one of them had just too much to lose and didn’t want to risk it, but still… he’d feel bad for Ji.

The pair gets interrupted in their conversation when a waiter comes to their table.

It’s the third thing happening. Yoongi finds out the boy’s full name.

“Park Jimin?” the waiter asks and the boy looks up, surprised. He nods.

“This fine gentleman here placed an order for you, picking out some of your favourites.” A plate full of expensive, exotic sweets gets placed in front of him, and the orange-haired male makes a sound of happiness.

‘Ji~♥’.

Jung Hoseok’s secret affair.

Jimin. Park Jimin.

Yoongi stands up from his table shortly after Hoseok demands a bill and he waits in front of the restaurant, inside his car, for the couple to leave.

He shoots a few photographs of them when they finally emerge - of them hugging, little intimidate touches being exchanged, the two getting into one car together.

The grey-haired male waits until the couple has driven off, looking through the pictures again.

The boy’s laugh is brighter than the sun, his stark orange hair glistening like it’s in flames. He’s drop-dead gorgeous.

Park Jimin.

Yoongi needs to gather some information as soon as he returns to his bureau.

~~~
Day 12:
Park Jimin is an actual angel.
He’s majoring in modern dance and works at a little café part-time, to earn some extra money and lives together with two other students, Kim Taehyung and Jeon Jungkook, in a small flat.
Although he goes on dates with one of South Korea’s wealthiest men, he seems to refuse to take money from him. Yoongi likes humbleness and a kind heart just as much as handsome features, so his fondness for the younger only grows.
This is about Jung Hoseok, though, so Yoongi needs to keep his feelings in check!
~~~

Day 14:

Yoongi takes more photographs today.

The couple meets at Hoseok’s flat, but the older picks Jimin up with his Ashton Martin at first, and they spend some time together just sitting in the car in the parking lot. Yoongi hides behind his steering wheel and shoots a few pictures of them cuddling and holding hands, Jimin laughing and Hoseok staring lovingly at Jimin from the side.

The grey-haired male tries to ignore the pang of jealously in his chest.

~~~
Day 25:
The longer Yoongi follows the couple around, watching them on dates or reading their conversations, the more his initial suspicions solidify that Jimin takes this relationship way more serious than Hoseok.
It’s just little differences, but they are there nonetheless and Yoongi starts to notice them.
Jimin would seek some physical affection, a quick hug or locking hands underneath the table, a little goodbye-kiss when Hoseok drops him off at his flat and Hoseok would push him away almost every time, always concerned their cover might blow.
Jimin would pretend to not be hurt, but Yoongi pays a little more attention to him than he probably should, so he recognizes when the younger is upset or sad easily now.
He is obviously better at it than Hoseok by now, and that tells pretty much everything about the elder’s dedication to this relationship.
Hoseok seems to be of the opinion, that enough money and fancy presents are enough to keep Jimin satisfied, because he’s not very considerate.
He would cancel dates literally hours before their actual meet-up, he would stand Jimin up because of sudden events with Hyeri, although he always tells the younger that their relationship is strictly professional and his feelings for Jimin are far more real.
He would get something for the younger as an apology every single time, and the younger would pretend that it’s okay, because he’s just nice like that.
Jimin would tell Hoseok that he loves him, often, via text messages, on the phone, even in public, quietly and carefully whispered. The older would barely say it back. He would response with a simple ‘I like you too’ or ‘Of course you do!’ sometimes even with ‘God, babe, not in public. You can be so annoying sometimes!”
Jimin looks hurt every time and Yoongi wants to do so many things at once, hit Jung Hoseok in the face, maybe, or shower Jimin with hugs and affection until his beautiful smile reaches his eyes again.
Except, he does nothing.
~~~

Day 42:

Yoongi is falling for Jimin, and he’s falling hard.

Everything he says, everything he does leaves the older breathless, in awe, stunned by such rare beauty. Jimin is gorgeous and nice and precious and all the things in between, and Yoongi wants to reveal himself, doesn’t want to be a silent by-stander any longer, wants to be the one hugging Jimin, kissing Jimin, wants to be the one that paints that heartbreakingly genuine smile on his face.

Yoongi wants to be the love of Jimin’s life, because he’d shower the younger with the adoration and affection he deserves.

He is in love with Jimin. There is no denying it any longer.

~~~
Day 44:
Hyeri is getting impatient.
It’s no wonder, Yoongi has enough material to provide her with by now and he usually finishes his jobs – if they are as easy as this one – much sooner.
He should just give her all his gathered information and the pictures, get his money and move on.
He knows what’s stopping him, though.
Jimin.
If he finishes the job, he has to give up on watching Hoseok and Jimin. He would’ve have no excuse, to see Jimin any longer. Jimin would disappear out of his life.
And Jimin would never know that Yoongi even existed.
Call Yoongi sentimental or egoistic, but he wants to keep this illusion up for a little while longer. He wants to see Jimin for a little while longer.
The younger is actually getting unhappier and unhappier. He seems to be fed up with Hoseok’s distant behaviour and he urges the older on to make their relationship public finally. He seems to catch on that Hoseok doesn’t really love him and just wants the thrill and easiness that comes with a secret affair.
Yoongi feels bad for the younger, and he’s getting concerned.
Jimin is obviously upset by Hoseok’s carefreeness but the black-haired baseball-star doesn’t even notice.
Yoongi fobs Hyeri off with some vague information and some way too blurry pictures, to satisfy her for the moment, and continues to watch over Jimin for now.
~~~

Day 55:

Jimin starts to notice Yoongi. The older is sure of it.

Of course he would at some point, Yoongi works alone, so he has nobody to switch with him and one would catch on eventually, if they got followed around all the time.

It’s almost two months now. Yoongi normally finishes his jobs much sooner, or takes long breaks in between to not make his targets suspicious, but Jimin is like a warm burning flame, he draws Yoongi in like a moth.

And now, the younger is getting suspicious. It’s probably because he starts to drift away from Hoseok more and more, without the older noticing, or just because Yoongi started to suddenly be always there, at the restaurant, on the streets, in front of the hotel, sometimes even in front of Hoseok apartment or Jimin’s flat.

It starts slowly, at first. Yoongi’s and Jimin’s eyes would meet occasionally, only for the split of a second, when the younger looks around the room. After a while, he begins to hold Yoongi’s gaze, as if he starts to recognize him between all the other people, as if he purposely searches for him.

Jimin smiles at him and Yoongi finds the corners of his own mouth lifting as well, and they shyly flirt with each other.

Yoongi tries to be more careful after that, leaves the couple alone for a few days, watches out to not get noticed by Jimin or at least only in quite public, well-visited places where it could be total conscience.

Jimin starts to transfer more and more of his attention from Hoseok to Yoongi, and although a little part of him is really happy about that, a noticeably larger part fears to get discovered.

The last thing he needs is Hoseok getting suspicious as well.

Still - Yoongi thinks as Jimin searches his gaze over Hoseok’s shoulder and blushes lightly when their eyes meet – it’s worth the risk. Jimin is worth everything.

The end of this is coming near, Yoongi can feel it. He’s going to finish the job and never see Jimin again. He might as well enjoy this moment as long as it lasts.

~~~
Day 62:
Hyeri storms into his bureau and Yoongi instantly knows that he can’t stall it any longer. He awaited the day, but now that it finally came, he’s quite stunned, to be honest.
He actually would have liked to have a last day with Jimin, to mentally prepare himself for the farewell.
He would have liked to say good-bye.
Yoongi knows for a while now that his time is running out, but he refused to believe it.
Jimin caught on to way too much for the detective’s liking. He’s getting too suspicious and part of Yoongi’s job is to not get involved, at any costs.
His clients rely on his discretion, so neither Jimin nor Hoseok can find out that they got observed by a private detective without Hyeri’s approval.
“I want to bring things to a close, already,” Hyeri grumbles as she flops down on an empty seat and Yoongi doesn’t even protest, just fishes an USB-stick out of the top-drawer of his desk that he completed days ago.
“It contains all the information I gathered over the months,” he explains, leaning back in his chair.
“There are only a few pictures saved there, some of the more harmless ones, to prevent you from doing something rash that you might regret later on in your possible rage.”
Hyeri nods tight-lipped and picks the data stick up with her pointer finger and thumb, her nails flashing in bright cerulean-blue.
Yoongi hesitates a little, before he continues:
“I- should probably prepare you, though. I told you on the phone already, that your suspicions where right and Hoseok has, in fact, an affair… But you’ll probably still be stunned.”
Hyeri lifts a perfectly curved eyebrow at him and he fetches a printed photograph with a sigh.
He places it in front of her and she picks it up, to look at it curiously.
Her eyes widen in surprise.
“Is that…,” she starts and Yoongi nods. He chose one of the early pictures. Hoseok and Jimin, in front of the Chinese restaurant, the older holding the car door open for the younger who has a hand on his upper arm. On first glance, it looks like two good friends are about to drive off after they ate dinner together, but if you are in the know and look closely enough, it’s quite obvious. The way they look at each other, the dark, promising glint in Hoseok’s eyes, Jimin’s bright, adoring smile.
“A boy,” Hyeri mutters under her breath.
“He cheats on me with a boy.”
Yoongi tenses visibly, ready to defend Jimin if the model starts to insult the younger. But to his surprise, she just sighs and puts the picture back on the desk.
“I would’ve never guessed… I mean, I said at the beginning that we don’t really have feelings for each other. But if the media catches on… I’m just worried about my reputation and… about them, too actually. Not only Hoseok, but the boy as well. Paparazzi are going to flock around him like nasty flies.”
Hyeri puts the USB-stick into her bag and stands up. Yoongi follows, to bring her to the door.
“I actually want to say thank you, Min Yoongi-ssi, for the excellent work. I’m going to talk to Hoseok, just to tell him to be careful. Your services are no longer needed, I’ll transfer your money next Monday.”
Yoongi thanks her and wishes her good-bye. Then he moves back to his desk, picking the photograph up to study it. He thumbs over Jimin’s face, deep in thoughts.
He’s never going to see Jimin again. His heart stutters painfully in his chest.
He fell in love with the boy… And Jimin doesn’t even know him. He’ll forget about him pretty soon.
Yoongi opens the top-drawer of his desk and puts the picture back to the others. He’ll really miss the younger.
Day 64:
Yoongi is a sentimental fool. And he’s way too desperate, and way too weak.
That’s the only reason why he sits in the by now well-known Chinese restaurant two days later, at his usual seat behind the plants, wallowing in memories. He doesn’t expect to meet Jimin today. The couple always takes long breaks between their visits to the restaurant and Hyeri surely has talked to Hoseok by now. They’ll be more careful for the next couple of weeks.
It’s really just conscience. Yoongi just finishes his drink, when the doors to the restaurant open and an all too familiar figure enters the room.
Jung Hoseok.
Yoongi feels his heart clench in his chest, a sudden wave of hope flaring up in him. When Hoseok is here… then Jimin might come as well…
And sure enough, not ten minutes later, Yoongi almost breaks his neck as he tries to get a glimpse of the shocking mob of orange hair that comes through the door. Jimin is as gorgeous as always when he moves over to the table where Hoseok is already waiting.
Yoongi would lie if he said he wasn’t jealous of the black-haired male.
But… something is off today.
Jimin takes a seat in front of Hoseok, but the elder’s his face doesn’t light up like usual, his mimic stays stoic and distant.
Yoongi keeps watching on with a growing feeling of uneasiness settling in the pit of his stomach. Something is going to go horribly wrong. He’s sure of it, all of a sudden.
Yoongi witnesses the whole drama unfold, and he’s way too dumb-folded to interfere.
He watches as Jimin reaches over the table to take Hoseok’s hand and the older shoves him away forcefully. Watches, as Hoseok says something and Jimin clenches his hands to tight fists, his shoulders riding up. The younger shakes his head, again and again, his entire form shaking.
Yoongi just sees his tense back, but it looks as if Jimin is crying.
He reaches out for Hoseok again, but the older stands up. It’s shocking how disinterested he looks all of a sudden. As if Jimin is a total stranger to him and not his lover of half a year.
The baseball-star smoothens his jacket out, straightens his cravat and looks down on the younger boy who barely keeps it together. He seems not really faced by the other’s distress. Without another word, without any gesture of comfort or sympathy, he turns around and leaves the table.
He doesn’t even look back, not one single time.
Yoongi is seething with anger. He wants to jump up and follow that asshole to tear him a good one, because apparently, he never cared about Jimin at all and dropped him as soon as things got difficult. He grits his teeth and inwardly curses that fucker to infinity and beyond, when an actual, heavy sob yanks him out of his murderous thoughts and brings his attention back to the small, miserable figure sitting alone on the table.
Yoongi doesn’t even know what he plans to do, his body just moves on its own and he’s up on his feet and standing in front Jimin before he even registers fully what is happening.
Jimin is so shaken, he needs a moment before he notices someone standing there and when he finally does, he looks up at Yoongi and the other thinks his heart might break. Jimin just looks so hurt and vulnerable, his big, expressional eyes swimming in tears that draw salty trails on his cheeks. The corners of his mouth are turned downwards, his bottom lip trembling lightly as he tries – and fails – to hold another harsh sob back.
Jimin looks still painfully beautiful, even when crying, but it’s such a heart-breaking image, Yoongi wants to hide the boy in his arms and never let him go again. Jimin deserves all the happiness in the world and Yoongi is suddenly determined to be the one to make him smile again.
He flops down on the now empty chair opposite of Jimin - the younger watching him with wide eyes, sniffling a little - and orders two drinks for them.
“Once in a while, it’s okay to get thoroughly wasted,” he explains as the waiter places two glasses of clear liquid in front of them, the stench of alcohol lingering. Yoongi picks both up and gives one two Jimin, who immediately takes a big gulp. He chokes a little at the sharp burn in his throat, but swallows another mouthful, still.
“Hey, I know it’s probably too soon…” Yoongi starts again, and Jimin looks into his glass with a tiny whimper, “but that guy is a coward for dropping someone as gorgeous as you. I mean – I’m not going to complain. It’s my win, and his loss.”
Yoongi reaches forward, to lie a hand on top of Jimin’s shaking one, and the younger doesn’t protest, just looks down on their hands as Yoongi starts to stroke over his knuckles gently with his thumb.
“Min Yoongi,” Yoongi introduces himself.
Jimin bites on his plumb bottom lip and he is still crying, but there is a small smile growing on his face as well, and Yoongi gives his hand a reassuring squeeze.
“P-Park Jimin,” the younger replies and Yoongi almost mutters yeah, I know.
They spend the rest of the night together, just talking and drinking, Jimin spilling his heart out to Yoongi, the older listening to him patiently. Accidental, fleeting brushes against each other turn into lingering touches, shy glances into heated, passionate stares. They stand up to leave and Jimin stumbles a little, right into Yoongi’s chest, who slides his arms around the younger’s body automatically, to steady him.
They are so close all of a sudden, their faces only mere inches apart, and both move forward at the same time, their mouths meeting for a deep, bruising kiss.
It’s as if Jimin knows the other for a long time already and he feels safe in the elder’s arms.
They drive together to Yoongi’s flat that night, and Yoongi showers Jimin with the attention and awe he deserves. He worships his body, makes gentle love to him until Jimin falls apart, comes undone underneath him, fragile and raw and open, so incredibly beautiful, and it steals Yoongi’s breath away.
Jimin is crying again, for entire different reasons this time, and he sobs Yoongi’s name again and again, like a mantra.
Later that night, he falls asleep on Yoongi’s chest and the older watches as his head rises and falls with every breath he takes, features relaxed and so incredibly peaceful, and the older wants to fall asleep and wake up to this face every day.
Yoongi drifts off to sleep with Jimin in his arms, and he feels happy and warm and so very much in love.
Day 65/0 of ?:
And now, Yoongi lies awake in his bed with Jimin besides him and he’s on the verge of a mental break-down, because as soon as the younger wakes up, he has to tell him the truth - that he’s a private detective and actually followed Jimin and Hoseok for almost two months now - and Jimin is going to be shocked and hurt. Jimin is going to leave.
Yoongi is lying on his back, staring up at the ceiling, Jimin curled into his side, and questions all his life-choices he made up until now, because he’d like to know what he did to deserve this. Yoongi gets only one night with the love of his life, before he’s going to shy him away with his own actions.
This is all bullshit! Why do things have to be like this?
Yoongi is deep in thoughts and he almost jumps out of his skin in shock, when the body besides him stirs all of a sudden, Jimin sighing contently and sliding even closer. Yoongi hesitates for a second before he slowly looks down on the boy in his arms feeling a sense of foreboding, and he almost shrieks in a very unmanly way when the younger is, in fact, sleepily blinking up at him, a slurred smile growing on his face.
Oh fuck, Jimin is awake. Oh FUCK, Jimin is awake!
Yoongi feels his heart leaping into his throat and he sits up a little, shoving Jimin gently off of him in the process. The orange-haired beauty wakes up fully at that, and follows Yoongi’s actions, sitting up with a stifled yawn.
His locks are adorably tousled, sticking up from his head in every directions, and Yoongi has to fight the sudden urge to bury his hands in them, drawing the younger close and stealing his breath away with a kiss.
Goddamn, Yoongi, concentrate! He needs to tell Jimin the truth, the younger deserves as much.
Jimin sits opposite of him on the bed, legs crossed, blankets hurled around his middle to cover his private parts, and studies him rather curiously now. He has already caught on that something is wrong, but he waits for Yoongi to speak up.
Yoongi takes a deep breath, the fear making him a little dizzy.
“Jimin… I- I need to tell you something. You- you deserve to know the truth. I’m not what you think I am, I’m not some stranger that randomly visited the same restaurant as you. I- My job is to-“
“Wait hold up, sorry for interrupting you, hyung, but that’s it? That’s why you’re so gloomy right now?” Jimin interrupts him and Yoongi furrows his brows at him. What the hell…
His confusion is perfect, when Jimin actually doubles over in sudden laughter, the relief evident in his relaxed features.
“Oh my god. I thought you regretted last night or something and wanted to kick me out. Oh my god, thank god!”
Jimin shakes his head, calming down a little and looking Yoongi dead in the eye. The corners of his mouth curl up to an amused, mischievous smile. He leans forward a little, to take Yoongi’s trembling hands in his.
“I know that you’re a private detective, hyung. I’m not stupid, I noticed that you started to follow us around. Maybe because you’re quite hot and you stood out to me. Anyways! Hoseok was starting to get nervous this past few weeks, claiming that Hyeri was getting suspicious and that she might plan something. So… I called her yesterday afternoon, because I was actually sick of all the lies and she told me she knew already. She confessed that she hired a private eye and I just had to put two and two together. I begged her to give me your name and I googled a few things. You’re actually really nice, Yoongi-hyung. People keep praising you for your delicacy of feeling. You make sure to protect your targets as well. See, I actually know you better than you thought.”
Jimin seems rather proud of himself and Yoongi is at a loss of what to say. Things took a twist he did definitely not expect. It’s kind of a good twist, though, he thinks.
Jimin scratches the back of head sheepishly and his cheeks turn a little pink in embarrassment.
“Truth to be told… My original plan was to confront Hoseok with everything. I knew that Hyeri would’ve talked to him by the time we met, and I wanted to reassure him, that I knew everything and that we’d get through it.”
His eyes darken a little and his smile turns bitter.
“Turns out it didn’t matter, at all. Again, I’m not stupid, I knew that Hoseok didn’t really reciprocate my feelings, but well… I didn’t want to accept reality, I think. He said a few nasty things yesterday as he broke up with me and I- I kind of wished you’d be here…”
Jimin giggles, glancing at Yoongi lovingly.
“And when someone came up to my table and I lifted my head and it was you… I thought I had gone insane for a moment. No way in hell could I be this lucky. But it was really you and you actually built up the courage to confront me and talk to me and that made me so happy…”
Jimin smiles at him and his eyes glaze over a little with unshed tears and Yoongi moves so fast, he leaves them both surprised.
He leans forward and slings both arms around Jimin’s neck to hug him close, and the younger isn’t prepared so he falls into the other, blankets falling off of him as he all but straddles the grey-haired male’s lab.
They bask in the feel of bare skin against skin for a moment, before Yoongi cubs Jimin’s face with both hands and guides him down a little, catching the younger’s lips in an open-mouthed, sloppy kiss.
“I love you. I know it’s probably too soon to say that, because I know you way better than you know me, but I love you. Even if you’re scared now, because we’re going too fast. I love you,” Yoongi rambles against Jimin’s lips and the other gasps, moulding into Yoongi’s form like a puzzle-piece falling into place.
Jimin doesn’t pull away but presses even closer, breaking away from Yoongi just to blow an affectionate kiss to his forehead.
“I don’t love you yet…” he mumbles, but a shy smile grows on his face, eyes scrunching up endearingly.
“But I think I’m in the middle of falling for you.”
Jimin grins brightly at him and that’s it, the epitome of Yoongi’s dreams, the fulfillment of all his hopes. Because Jimin is happy and Yoongi is the cause of it, and Jimin sees nothing but him.
Yoongi is the cause of Jimin’s gorgeous, blinding smile and it’s going to stay that way, for the rest of their life.
Jimin is not Yoongi’s secret affair and Yoongi is no longer the detective that has to hide his entire existence from the younger.
They are each other’s pride and joy, each other’s source of happiness and strength, and they wouldn’t be afraid to tell the whole world about their love.
Many more happy days like this one are going to follow.
