Chapter 1: Dating app

Chapter Text

GIVE ME MY FUCKING PHONE BACK DUNCEFACE!”

The blond shouted as he angrily waltzed over to Kaminari and Ashido who were both sitting on the ground playing around with his phone.

The Bakusquad was hanging out at Sero's new apartment, he had recently moved and so the group gathered together to celebrate, throwing a small housewarming party for the taping hero.

“Nuh-uh bro, you lost the last game so this is your punishment.”

He laughed at him as his partner in crime grabbed the screen out of his hand and started typing away.

”We have five more minutes so back off, and we’re really doing you a favour here right now.”

Mina said with a serious voice as she started to giggle when a new text bubble popped up on the screen. Resulting in a vein popping up on Bakugou’s forehead. Thanks to some stupid game he got dragged into and had not paid any attention to as he was just zoning out and watching the shitty show they had put on. And all of a sudden they dared to announce that he was the loser.

What did he even lose?!

The answer was simple, a word game where you had to respond within three seconds and no repeats. A stupid game and that he got so bored that his attention drifted off to something else for just a little too long. And now we’re here, the punishment being thirty minutes of free range on someone’s phone. And off fucking course raccoon eyes had the worst idea ever and downloaded a dating app on his phone, made an account for him with pictures his friends apparently had of him, and had started swiping left and right as if life depended on it.

Within a few minutes a match popped up and a conversation was started as Mina and Denki were imitating him and his mannerisms as best as they could.

“Bakugou, when is your next day off?” The pink girl asked all of a sudden.

”WHY DO YA NEEDA KNOW THAT?!”

He was pissed off at this point, they were making it look like he was basic trash looking for attention and validation from extras who used those shitty apps.

”He’s off next Friday.”

”SHUT UP SHITTYHAIR!”

Cursing the redhead for knowing his schedule from memory. Sucks to have a freaking roommate that seems to know all the shit he’s up to. A few seconds of silence were followed up by loud cheers as the two jumped up from their spots.

”Bakubro, you got yourself a date!”

Both shouted in unison as they handed the phone back to him. He could only stare at the both of them in utter disbelief until he finally averted his eyes onto the screen of the phone they just pushed back into his hands. Only to see a fraction of the conversation that the person on the other side of the screen thought they had with him.

“HAA!!?”

”What shit are you guys pulling! No fucking way am I gonna go and wast time with some random extra!”

“Calm ur tits buddy, if anything she’s more ordinary than extra. Just read her profile and the chat back.”

Soy sauce face tried to calm him down.

“Seems like a pretty sweet and laid back girl if anything, just give this a chance for once or u wanna be the sore loser that you are and cancel this whole thing yourself.”

The grin on his stupid face rubbed the explosion hero the wrong way.

”I’m leavin” he announced as he grabbed his coat and made his way to the door as he was getting booed and called a party pooper from the other room.

“I’ll stay a little longer bro.” Kirishima announced. The only answer he got was the middle finger from his roommate as he left the room. Once in his car Bakugou couldn’t help but unlock his phone again and open the chat where the conversation had taken place. He needed to read through the shit that was sent back and forth between his friends who imitated him and the person on the other side of the screen. Scrolling up to the top of the chat he braced himself for whatever was coming thanks to those shitty extras who got him in this situation.

Hii, nice to meet you :) How has your day been?

So she started off the conversation.

Hi. Same to you ‘S been okay. At a friend's housewarming right now and got bored. You?

Ooh congrats to ur friend!

Not much, was hanging out with some friends and they told me to give this app another shot

so here I’m ig ahaha

shitty app right?

Yeah it kinda is makes me feel like I’m desperate or something

btw not trying to sound like a stalker but u look like a fit guy.

Are you into sports?

Kinda sounds like what a stalker would say…

Ah sorry :|

My job requires me to be physically fit

Oh, wcan i ask what your job is?

I have a job in public security

The blonde was at least a little grateful that they kept his personal info vague. No way on earth would he forgive them if he’d get doxed.

Sounds like a pretty cool job!

But you must get into tricky situations right? People can be so unpredictable to work with

Can’t say you’re wrong about that. It is what it is tho

ah i work in a grocery store btw!

Never asked but thanks for informing me I guess.

Ahaha true…

thought it was only fair to share my job as well

Bakugou got frustrated reading, throwing his head back into the car seat whilst letting out a tired sigh. A shitty situation has arisen thanks to his friends. Them mededeling with his life like this got him into this. He wanted to get angry whilst trying to read how the flow of the rest of the conversation went yet something was holding him back from doing so.

Did those asses for brains really think he sounded like this?! But how would he even handle conversations like these, he’d never waste time on one of those stupid online meat inspections.

Damn he barely had time to rest and relax due to the very demanding career path he had chosen, having no clue at how he would even go about it himself as he never even imagined participating in that sphere.

Going on a dating app.

He wasn’t that desperate.

Scrolling further down the conversation he noticed how different you were to him yet you also had quite a few things in common as well. Noting that you seemed to be a person that likes to keep more to themselves. Rather be home than in a crowd of people doing whatever extras liked to do. Hiking (definitely not real hiking like he does). Yet you seemed to be everything but an athletic person. You're a homebody, indulging in nerd hobbies, very introverted and a tad bit childish even. And it kind of irritated him even more to see that you just weren’t bothered about the fact that you were an adult who wasn’t doing much with their life yet content with the place you were at right now.

What do you think about meeting irl?

Do you mean u and me meeting up?

Who else dumbass

Hey can never be sure enough ahaha.

But I guess I’m okay with that!

When do you have time to hang out? I’m free next week if you have time someday?

Vacation?

Yeah

got the day off next Friday.

Cool then the date is set! Is it okay for you if we discuss what to do and the time later? I gotta go, my friends are asking for attention.

Yeah sure.

I'll speak to you later then.

The text messages ended there and Bakugou sits in his car, staring at his phone like it had personally offended him. His grip was tight, thumb hovering over the screen, debating whether to just delete the entire damn app and act like this never happened.

He had a date.

A date he never fucking agreed to.

Set up by dumbass extras who thought it would be hilarious to put him through this humiliation. He started to think about just canceling the whole thing. Should probably just send some half-assed excuse about being busy or just block the your account and delete his for eternity, cause fuck this.

Yet he couldn't type the words. Instead, he scrolled up, reading through the messages again.

"Tch."

This whole conversation was ridiculous.

But he had to be honnest. It wasn’t as bad as he thought it’d be.

You weren’t overbearing. You weren’t gushing over him like some crazed fangirl. Hell, it looked like you didn’t even know who he was. And for some reason, that made this whole thing feel different. Still, he doesn’t do this kind of crap. Dating apps were for desperate losers who needed validation.

Not for someone like him.

What did you even look like? He hadn't seen a single picture of you yet. Aggressively, he tapped on the tiny profile picture at the realization, squinting at the too-small image before pulling up your full profile. Your personal page popped up, finally giving him a look at the person his friends had so fucking kindly set him up with. He scrolled through your pictures, taking in the random mix of images. A few outside on a trail in the woods. Some stupid bathroom pictures where you were wearing a hoodie, acting like some kind of gangster. Another one in a cosplay he kind of recognized from a shitty show his friends had recently watched.

"Great, she's a fucking nerd," he sighed, annoyed.

Then, some older photos. Ones that looked like they were from a trip to a foreign country. He swiped back up and reading your bio.

"I'm perfectly capable of doing stuff and going places on my own. It would be nice to have someone with me, though.

Cosplaying, drawing, and writing are some of my hobbies. Hopelessly procrastinating and nervous in new environments. But I have moments of revelation from time to time."

He frowned. What the hell was that supposed to mean? This whole profile was so fucking random. His phone buzzed, snapping him out of his thoughts.

Hii!

Hope you’re having a good evening so far.

Just wanted to quickly ask about our plans for Friday.

Did you have anything in mind?

He exhaled sharply through his nose. Right. He had to shut this down. Just tell another extra he wasn’t interested. End it here and move on with his life.

Don’t care. Pick whatever.

He stared at the message, debating why he even hit send.

If he really wanted to shut this down, why was he even answering? Before he could second-guess himself, another text came in.

Lol, alright, straight to the point, huh? How about something lowkey? Coffee or a small restaurant? No pressure. Just two people hanging out

Lowkey?? No pressure?! He almost felt like you were treating him as a fragile ass kid.

He groaned annoyed, rubbing a hand down his face before forcing himself to reply.

Fine.

Friday. 6PM.

Send me the location.

A moment passed before a response popped up.

Cool! I’ll text you the details soon.

Looking forward to it!

Looking forward to it? What a bullshit basic response he thought.

Shoving his phone into his pocket, he slammed his hands on the steering wheel and let out a frustrated sign.

"Fucking dumbasses," he muttered

Meanwhile, across the city, you were sitting on her couch, legs tucked under your butt and wrapped in a blanket. phone in hand, face frozen in mild horror.

"Wait."

"What?"

You blinked at the screen.

"You got a match!" One of your best friends grinned, throwing an arm around my shoulders.

"And we already started the conversation for you, so you can’t back out now."

"You what?"

Your heart started sinking as you scrolled up. Oh my god.

They actually….

You had been enjoying a chill evening at home, lounging around in your apartment, eating snacks, and half-listening to your friends gossip about their latest drama about people unknown to the others. You were barely paying attention when they suggested you to open up the dating app on your phone and just give it another shot. And then, before you could fully register what was going on they grabbed the phone out of your hands, swiping through profiles without a care in the world.

And now you're here

"Guys, I told you I’m not interested in-"

"Nope! Too late!"

Your other friend interruptes, as she sits down beside you hogging most of the blanket .

"Listen, you need to get out more. You work, you go home, you hang with us. That’s it. You deserve to have some fun!"

A deep sigh leaves you whilst a hand runs through your hair.

"I do have fun."

"With you guys."

"That’s not what we mean, and you know it," they teased.

"Come on, just go on one date. One. If it sucks, you can just ghost him."

Your friend says it like it's the easiest thing in the world.

Groaning, you looked through the messages again. The guy, whoever he was, was blunt. But not awful. Definitely straight to the point And, well… it's not like you exactly had an excuse to say no.

Something grandma's said suddenly pops up in your head. “Sweetheart, at this rate, I’ll have to start interviewing suitors myself. You can’t stay cooped up forever, you know.” Was what she had said a few months ago. She was definitely joking around with you and you both lauged about it yet you could sense some concern in her voice.

"Fine,"

I mutter, tossing my phone onto the couch.

"One date."

“But if he turns out to be a weirdo, I’m blaming all of you."

Your friends started cheering, yet you sighed, leaning back. What had you gotten yourself into?
