Cassie was still adjusting to living in Colorado Springs rather than Toronto when Katy invited her to her birthday sleepover. It was, at least as far as she knew, a friendly gesture to the new girl. Everyone else seemed to be excited about the party. Daniel said it was called culture shock. Sometimes it was useful – it didn't bother her to call Janet "Mom", because that was different from "Mother", and it made Janet happy. But right now it was like the girls in her class were speaking a foreign language. She hadn't seen any of the films they were talking about, and she knew nothing about makeup or hairstyles or fashion, though Sam had promised to teach her. Still, she could listen and try and learn today, and Jack had said the whole team would come over for dinner this evening, so she could ask Sam to explain properly about sleepovers then.
