Chapter Text
"Long ago, two races ruled over Earth: HUMANS and MONSTERS.
One day, war broke out between the two races.
After a long battle, the humans were victorious.
They sealed the monsters underground with a magic spell.
Many years later...
MT. EBOTT 201X
Legends say, those who climb the mountain never returned.
One day... a human fell into the mountain.
There it met the desperate monsters that were craving freedom as it needed their soul to finally break the barrier...
But the human never chose violence, always choosing mercy.
Showing the monsters a new kind of hope. as they got closer to the barrier...
Many laughs were had, Tears spilt, New bonds forged, and a bad pun or two."
Alot of chuckles and giggles were held, mixed with boo's as others immersions were broken.
"The human finally reached the end of their journey. Standing between the human and the barrier was the king himself.
But the human wasn't alone, as the monsters that the human met in their journey stood behind them.
All of them trying to end the conflict between the king and the human, to end the cycle of violence between the two races.
As the king finally saw the error of he's ways, he letted the human through.
The human seeing the struggles of the monsters, used all of their power and broke the barrier with the help of all the monsters in the underground.
At last, the war finally ended that day, as the monsters walked through the barrier, they saw the sunset.
Some seeing the sun for the first time, others after centuries...
The world unknowingly changed that day, as a missing piece found it's way back...
*Yawns* The end." The Skeleton said flopping his head on the teacher's desk. As the children around him started cheering while the others were quick to ask questions.
Black haired boy: "Hey Mister Sans what happened to the missing humans around the mountain?" The boy asked raising one of his hands.
Brown haired girl: "Yeah from what I heard those 6 humans were kids!" The girl quickly followed with a dark expression on her face.
"WHAT!?!" "HEY!" "Th-That was r-real?!" "Are you blaming them?!" "Is it real Mr Sans?" The kids said one after another as they bombared the Skeleton with questions.
The Skeleton lazily opened one of his eyelids halfly, others still not used to that still grimaced.
Sans: "eh sure i can explain why i skipped that part, if all of you would throw me a bone and give me time to explain." The Comedian winking at his terribe joke.
The group of children started to slowly quite down as they all waited for anticipation completly ignoring the pun.
........
5, 10, 20 seconds go by.
Red haired boy: "Alright when are you gonna say it?" as he quickens his foot taps.
Sans:"alright time for-" The Substitute said as the school bells started ringing. And countless footsteps are heard near the teachers desk.
The Skeletons grin grew just a bit bigger as he slowly got up from the chair as his small frame made it so only his head was visable behind the desk. He made his way to the door, crumpled paper and planes somehow missing their target as he opened the door as a gesture for the booing and complaining children to leave.
"He ALWAYS does this!" "Who even is he?" "He's Ms Toriel's substitute." "First time we met him he came 5 minutes before school was over..." "He worked his way up from 5 to 30 by minute, and STOPPED AT 30!!!" "No wonder I never saw him before, I usually go home after 15 minutes." The children discussed among themselves bummed out at the Skeletons actions.
Sans: "don't worry bout it, i'll totally explain it tommorow if you guys come to class early." The Hotdog Seller said closing both his eyes
Black haired kid: "But will you be early Mister Sans?" The kid asked with a doubtful look.
Sans: "my streak with promises are one of kind" The FriedSnow Seller responded.
Black haired kid: "Let me guess it's only once?" The kid said walking out the door.
Sans: "yup, poured too much of my energy to let this go back to zero so i'll consider it." The HotCat Seller joked while exiting the classroom and locking the door.
The Skeleton wearing a unzipped blue jacket showing the white t-shirt underneath, his lower body wearing black shorts with 2 white lines to the side, all the while having pink slippers with socks on. Stepped outside the school before answering a phone call.
Sans: "sup tori, kids got taken care of and are being sent straight home, all neatly packaged." The ex-Scientist already knowing what the lady will ask.
"Tori": "*Snorts* Excuse me." The lady on the phone said, responding to someone next to them.
"Tori": "Sans I'm in an important meeting right now so please save those for later." The lady said with a pleading yet shaky tone, still recovering.
Sans: "gotcha, welp not much really happened today, was gonna make em rest like the usual, 'cept i wanted to spice it up a little so this time i let em off with a bedtime story. yet it had no effect by the time i was done, so i was pretty bummed out bout that." The Casino Owner said combing his bald scalp.
"usually worked on paps but...comparing him to others is unfair when he is so cool." The Brother said with a fond tone as he continues his stride back to his home.
"though miss snoriel would love the story i told along with srisk." He added, the grin reaching his eyesockets.
"Tori": "Oh I'm pretty sure snas would love the pie I will be baking for him tonight, poor Sans though he will have to settle for no"body" to greet him at the party due to his poor sense of timing fufu" The lady laughed quietly to not cause another scene.
Sans: "oh my bones are rattling just from thinking about it, though warn that handsome snas fella to watch his back, as i put many types of condiments on the pies he gets tonight." The Skeleton replied with a wink to the lady that can totally see the gesture.
The call continued for another minute before ending.
"Tori": "Oh right before you hang up, I already said it before but me and Frisk will be baking pies to celebrate our first year above the surface tonight. and of course the others will be there too... Except Asgore. I hope to see you and your brother there tonight my friend, no pressure of course. " The lady said as she was worried the call was longer than it should.
Sans: "sure, cya too tori" The Skeleton said as he noticed the tone of her voice and ended the call.
The Skeleton alone again with his thoughts.
'should probably drop by grillby's', 'eh not really, gonna have to talk to papyrus about the celebration tonight.', 'should probably shortcut then', 'probably taking things too lightly, were at the surface now, wouldn't hurt to enjoy a walk or two.' 'wouldn't really know if this world is safe from the anomaly anyways.' 'at any second this world could just abruptly end and another one starts with all of us back in that mountain.' 'no memories of what happened' 'everything going back to zero' 'why even try?' 'would the anomaly get bored already?' 'is it bored right now?' 'the kiddo promised.' 'promises are fickle at best.' 'can i really trust that kind of power to the kid?' 'not just that a few words to make sure they never use that power again?' 'wouldn't really be "abusive" of that power if their baking cakes with tori and planning a party right now would they?'
Sans: "oh, i passed by our house" The Corpse said, too used to using shortcuts as a way to get back home. His gloved hands itching to the grey door in it's stead.
The Skeleton tiredly opened the door while his eyes were shut, body used to the motion.
Sans: 'heh papyrus might start fuming when i tell em this.' The Grinning Idiot thought of a terrible pun as he walked into the door.
.
...
.......
What greeted the Skeleton was not the orange hue walls he came to know, not his pet rock, not the static TV, not the unpicked sock with tons of sticky notes attached, and most of all. Not his brother.
Sans: "huh." The Undead stood still, frozen, his white dot's for pupils in his empty sockets slowly darting left and right, taking everything in.
A medieval like setting is all the Skeleton thought as he looked around, the banners sewn up near buildings, the clothes and the way architecture were built and some wearing clads of iron armour. Speaking of the people, Beastmen, Lizard folk, humans with animal appendages, and humans who barely took a glance to the other species as if it were normal. No weird glances or surprised faces, if anyone were surprised.
It'd be the ones who saw the weirdly dressed Skeleton on the street.
It was clear most were avoiding him as they would avoid bumping or even getting near the Skeleton, he didn't mind however as he was too busy with his thoughts.
'alright what happened', 'did i shortcut accidentally?' 'i don't recognise any of the monster species here.' 'no way is there just another tribe of monsters that survived the war, and is living in a town centuries behind technology, and i somehow shortcutted here.' 'is papyrus safe' 'will i ever even see him again?' 'am i the only one here?' 'how did i even end up here?' 'can i ever go back' 'will i ever be able to go back?' 'what if the world already replaced me?' 'what if the kid already resetted?' 'what if i go back and the world won't accept me?' 'will there just be two of me's when i get back?' 'what's to say that when i do get back all that's left would be an empty void as the kid already resetted.' 'i'm sick of this' 'i'm tired'.
The skeleton looked behind him as the door that led him there was replaced by a concrete wall.
Sans: "heh, now that's a funny joke... the universe giving me a sliver of hope that i was out of that hell, that anything i do mattered now, and look where that got me. anything i'll do will just amount to nothing." The skeleton fell on his behind. sitting on the pavement. the white dots on his eyesockets vanishing. Leaving an empty eyed skull with a smile barely reaching it's eyes on it's face to any passerby that looked.
"i don't even have him with me this time" The skeleton said as he flipped his hood on. Before getting up.
"welp... no use being a pile of bones on the floor, that'll just be for later... heh" The skeleton pitifully laughed at his own bad joke.
"paps would probably handle this a whole lot better than me to be honest. though i'd prefer this happening to me than him, hopefully frisk and the others cheer him up when they inevitably worry."
"i trust that you'll make a clever pun when you put something on the posters bro."
" 'cuz that will atleast make em chuckle or laugh, instead of wasting any effort on actually trying to find me... wasted effort, a meaningless action with nothing to show for it... though who's to say the kiddo's reset won't bring me back? eh thinking like that won't get you out of this situation funny bones" The skeleton thought outloud as he entered a dark alley, getting deep enough inside where no one can see him, as a boney platform appears under his slippers and sends him straight upto the rooftops.
The skeleton laying on the tiles gazing towards the sky, as he ponders on what to do next, as dying slowly in unknown land, as his dust lay scattered somewhere instead of getting thrown on prized possesions or loved ones.
Alone. With no one to know who the dust once was as they confuse it with dirt and grime. None caring as the skeleton died.
The thought somehow convinced the skeleton to take just a tiny bit of action as dying that pitifully and lazily caused even him to reconsider taking the lazy route. Though nothing is gonna change that fact from happening.
'Nothing you do will matter anyways.'
...
.......
................
'Please help my beloved... Natsuki Subaru.' a feint whisper echoed in his mind.
His white pupils quickly returning in place as he looked left and right, trying to find the source of the voice before...
"GAUUUURDSS!!!" a girlish? type scream came from the alleyway below. The skeleton curious on what was happening quickly sat up and peered down below.
What greeted theskeleton was three ragged looking young men trying to rob a raven haired boy.
'well ain't this humorous' The skeleton thought treating the situation as he would watching something on TV.
