My Baby

Summary:

"My baby, oh, my baby... It's okay... I'm okay... It's not your fault, you did nothing wrong... I'm here..."

or

Saiki panics because Kaidou is involved in a major accident.

(Got this idea while listening to "I Bet On Losing Dogs" by Mitski btw.)

Work Text:

"Shun!"

Saiki frantically pushed through the crowd as gasps and cries filled the area. He ran straight to the collapsed shopping center and frantically searched around, looking for any signs of someone he recognized. Just, any sign would help.

Red bandages laid still in a pile on the ground. Saiki collapsed to his knees the moment he saw them and crawled over, grabbing the bandages and clutching them as he burst into sobs. Officers came over and dragged him, taking him away from the debris.

They sat Saiki on a nearby sidewalk before rushing to go help injured survivors.

Saiki clutched the bandages in his hands before burying his tear-streaked face into his knees.

It started with a simple text.

"Kaidou S.: Comrade! I am attempting to initiate a secret plan to take down the Dark Reunion at Kanpeki. It's a shopping center near the school! Wanna assist the Jet-Black Wings in this secret mission?"

Saiki had the chance to say yes. It was right there, looking him in the eyes and telling him, begging him not to screw it up. Yet, somehow...

"Saiki!!! (Best Comrade!): Sorry, I'm busy."

That was it.

Then a precognition jumpscare attacked.

"Breaking news! The famous shopping center, Kanpeki, has collapsed due to a terrorist attack! All but a few inside the building passed away!"

He got that precognition just as it happened. He had never been to Kanpeki, so he couldn't teleport.

Worst of all, Kaidou was there, probably terrified out of his mind.

Saiki tried to act fast, but he was clearly too late.

Saiki couldn't breathe. Not because of the dust and smoke, but because he was panicking. He couldn't believe Kaidou died so young.

Saiki didn't care if Kaidou talked all day.

Saiki didn't care if Kaidou followed him around.

Saiki didn't care if Kaidou got nervous around him.

Saiki didn't care if Kaidou was crying.

He wanted him back. He wanted him back so badly. He'd give anything.

"Oh God, please." Saiki thought.

"I promise I'll be good. I promise I'll do anything. Anything at all. Please. I know you hate me, but don't take it out on him.

Anyone but him. Please. Please... I... I need him..."

"...S...S-Saiki...?!"

Saiki's head jerked up so fast you'd think he lagged.

Saiki's teary eyes widened as he saw Kaidou in the distance. He was injured, but it was nothing more than cuts and bruises. His simple black t-shirt and shorts were torn up, though. He looked more shaken up than anything.

"S-Saiki!"

Kaidou sprinted towards Saiki. Saiki immediately stood up and did exactly the same without even thinking.

The two boys basically tackled each other into a very tight hug. Saiki picked Kaidou up momentarily and spun him around happily.

"Woah woah woah! Easy!"

Kaidou chuckled bitterly as Saiki set him down and sobbed into his shoulder. Kaidou gently pressed kisses onto his forehead.

"I-" Saiki choked out through a sob as his body convulsed violently. "I-I'm so-orry...!"

Kaidou shushed him. "My baby, oh, no, my baby... It's okay... I'm okay... It's not your fault, you did nothing wrong... I'm here..."

His hand ran gently through Saiki's hair. Saiki didn't care about the nickname. In fact, he liked it. But for now, he was concerned about Kaidou and Kaidou only.

The pain in Saiki's chest was unbearable. Kaidou sat Saiki down on the sidewalk and showered his face with kisses.

"Shhh...." Kaidou whispered. "You're okay... Focus on my breathing, alright...?"

Kaidou took a 4 second inhale, 6 second hold, 5 second exhale, 7 second hold. He repeated that until Saiki caught on.

Eventually, he did, and he calmed down pretty quickly. Kaidou still held him, even after he calmed down.

The two sat there. Kaidou used his shirt to block out the dust from Saiki's breathing, which only helped a little bit.

Saiki felt his tears start to dry as Kaidou place another kiss on his forehead.

"Runt! Pal! What are you doing?"

Saiki and Kaidou froze as Nendou was suddenly in their personal space, staring at them with a raised eyebrow.

Kaidou yelped as he jumped back and Saiki quickly cleaned himself up to look normal.

Nendou laugh. "Ahahaha! The look on your faces!"

"Shut up, Nendou!" Kaidou snapped back as he wiped away some blood trickling down his cheek from a fresh cut below his eye.

Saiki looked down at Kaidou's bandages, which were in his hand, before pushing them in his pocket.

The next day at school was chaotic. Kaidou kept getting questions about being at the scene of the crime. (He got interviewed before he found Saiki)

Kaidou also showed off his "cool" new scars that he got from flying debris, which the girls seemed to love on him.

Their friends were chatting about the whole thing most of the day.

Kaidou stretched as he and Saiki stood by the lockers.

"Woo! Being popular is exhausting..." Kaidou said breathlessly.

Saiki gave a nod in response. Kaidou smiled at him.

"You can keep them if it makes you feel better."

Saiki blinked and raised an eyebrow.

"The bandages," Kaidou pointed to Saiki's bandaged hands. "You can keep them."

Saiki seemed almost hesitant, but he nodded, putting his hands together and smiling.

Kaidou patted his shoulder before sneaking his unbandaged hand into one of Saiki's bandaged hands and holding it.

"Come on, baby. Let's go home."

Saiki absolutely did not feel his face heat up and definitely did not feel his stomach to a backflip.

He simply followed Kaidou out of the school and to home.

Yeah. Just that. Nothing else.
