Guarding a light from it's shadows

Summary:

Born once again wasn't the problem but that Earth now has to deal with monsters from things called gates and have abilities is not what you sighed up for. An office job would be the best route yet now you have to deal with calamities in human bodies that don't understand that you're fine and yes you did have enough sleep and no you didn't just chug a cup with 10 expresso shots and a red bull.

Notes:

Hello yall!! I might have gotten used to writing stuff like this and yah know hard to change habit, I guess. But my main thing is why are there so little fic that focus on my man like looks at him, he is so precious, he needs someone to just pick him up and wrap him into a blanket burrito. Having to deal with human calamities is stressful I bet. As for the main paring, still don't know yet but we'll see soon anyway, enjoy!!

Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

No matter where humans go.

How far they try to deny it all, believing their own lies.

Their hands can either destroy something, causing it to become unrecognizable or create something better than before.

This new place isn’t much different from your first and what you would believe was your last life. Your features have definitely changed, a teenager with wavy strawberry blonde hair with a pair of beautiful lavender eyes and skin pale as snow rather than your ordinary features that most of the world would have. Yet it seems in this world there were many others with naturally colored hair that would be rare in your first life.

After all humans lived everywhere, of all different races but it seems that it would change soon enough as now there was another factor to take into account that would surprise you just like everyone else it seems.

Abilities

Magic that was once fairytales that were told to bring excitement to this dull world has now become a reality in this world.

Yet this new reality came with a cost, just like everything. Somehow a few months ago with the rise of magic, these things called gates opened and with the opening of the first gate, the world fell into panic as hours after its opening monsters walked out and stepped foot on the human world.

At the same time, several humans around the world have gained some type ability and would fall under a certain class once they are able to uncover what they are now. It was much different during the first year as magic detectors weren’t created which made the job much easier for the future.

There were about 6 classes for Hunters to fall under, rarely would hunters fall under more than 2 classes. Those classes would then determine your placement during a raid, making the job

You quickly found out about your class while helping others try to escape from a dungeon break that happened to open in your school.

“Run as far as you can and call the hunters!!”

“Damn it, get out of the way!”

Pulling a classmate that has yet to escape from their shock, you tried to navigate through the halls that had once been filled with voices and laughs are now covered with corpses from people just the same age.

They were all still kids yet now they fell victim to a dungeon break.

‘Fuck fuck fuck, why haven’t the HA been formed yet! The major Guilds aren’t even formed as well!’

Turning another corner, you spotted the back of one of the beasts, an orc. Covering your classmate's mouth, you immediately moved back as the orc seemed to be intentionally standing to the stairs that would lead towards the exit.

It seemed that these beasts have intelligence as you were able to get a glimpse of the corpses of fellow students that were once alive and next to you just minutes ago. Meaning these were high ranked beats, as lower ranked beasts act just like wild animals with just one objective which was to kill humans.

Your mind racing, committing up with different scenarios that would get both of you out and to safety. You both were on the highest floor which was the 5th floor and you knew that you both wouldn’t survive the drop. The other staircase was on the other side of the floor yet that area was already infested with orcs that you knew were slowly moving their way across the floor.

Within the few seconds you had available, you knew you had to decide which path would likely allow you both to come out alive. Better to climb down the outside wall and fight an Orc just barely getting a new life.

“Hey hey, I need you to follow everything I say if you want to get out, alright?” Trying to snap your classmate out of its trance was necessary for them to know what you want them to do. A person in a trance was not the best thing to deal with in a life or death scenario.

Getting a nod, you moved into one of the classrooms nearby, closing the door as quietly as possible. Moving around the corpses in the classroom, you opened one of the windows. Looking out at the wall you spotted a pipe that reached the ground floor.

“Alright, I need you to climb on my back and I'll get us down okay. Just hold on tightly” Time was short and you would like to live another day. Thankfully they weren’t heavy which would make sense as you do recall that Asian countries have better health and figures than that of what you remember in the States.

Securing your hold around the pipe, you started to make your way down, trying to stay as close to the wall as possible as you could spot orcs moving around the halls as you reached the next floor.

Quickly, you were able to reach the bottom, your classmate got off your back yet you could feel their hands tremble the entire time you moved down. With a sigh, you looked around only for your lavender eyes to make contact with an Orc's green eyes.

‘Damn it!! Shit shit shit!!’

Grabbing their hand, you took off. Hearing glass breaking from behind you, the echoes of the ear-piercing roars of the beast, you knew that your chances of survival would only get slimmer by the second. Most likely the area around the school has cleared out as well, nobody truly wants to be near a gate during this time.

Shouldn’t there be at least a hunter nearby? There is no scale system yet so nobody truly knows their strength and the types of monsters they are able to fight. Many times, a dungeon break would last for a week before it got contained, even the bystander effect still affected the hunters as well.

Turning the corner, you pulled your classmate as fast as you could, allowing them to barely dodge the Orcs blade from cutting their head off.

Survivor’s guilt isn’t something you want either at the age of 15

Letting go of their hand once you were able to pull them away from the blade’s direction, you immediately shifted on your legs facing the orc now. Thankfully it's blade got stuck within the concrete wall yet judging its strength, you had a few seconds to implement your crazy plan.

As if on instictic, mana coursed through your body as you push off the ground, jumping towards the orc. Swiftly your leg kicked the side of their head, knocking it off balance, allowing its grip from their blade lessen. Quickly, you got your balance on one of its extended hands with both your hands gripping it as if you were balancing on a tightrope. Your feet making contact on what you would believe would be its chest, your legs with the help of mana kicking them back as their grip fully left that of their blade and fell into yours.

‘Success!!’

Channeling your mana into your hands, you were able to pull out the blade from the wall, both of your hands supporting a sword that was almost your height. With a single breath, your grip tightens as you push yourself off the ground, raising your blade.

Eyes shining a bright orchid color that would make shinny jewels placed to shame with a frown that would cause the strongest being to feel shame of their action, would be the last thing the monster would see.
