Chapter Text
2015 First permanent colony established on Moon.
2032 Commercial mining begins on Mars.
2040 Deep space research vessel 'Event Horizon' launched to explore boundaries of Solar System. She disappears without trace beyond the eighth planet, Neptune. It is the worst space disaster on record.
2047 The 'Event Horizon' reappears in Neptune's orbit, a distress signal interpreted as "Liberate me" ("Save me"), coming from the vessel. A rescue ship 'Lewis and Clark' is sent on an investigation. The rescue ship's team becomes trapped on the 'Event Horizon' while looking for survivors. Communications cease as the mission descends into chaos.
Seventy-two days later Another rescue team reaches the 'Event Horizon', the ship wrecked. Only three members of the 'Lewis and Clark' crew are found alive. As they are woken up from stasis, the entry bulkhead shuts behind the rescuers, not allowing them to leave. The rescued report finding no survivors of the original crew, them having massacred each other in a fit of madness. Dr Weir, the designer of the ‘Event Horizon’, allegedly attacked the rest of the 'Lewis and Clark' crew, “possessed” by an “evil entity” from “another dimension”. They claim to have experienced “visions” of dead loved ones and people they failed, as if the ship was “sentient” and “tormenting” them. The account is disjointed, the crew in obvious distress begins chanting "Libera te tutemet ex inferis" ("Save yourself from hell "). A scream is heard. Communications suddenly cease again. The wreckage disappears from all radars.
2082 Green Lantern of Sector 2814 Hal Jordan is sent on a mission to investigate the seeming reappearance of the ‘Event Horizon’ near the war-torn deep space planet Vasanistíria.
