Waiting No More

Summary:

"He's been having dreams, dreams of her." Raf gets pulled into our dimension to be near his bride. I'm gonna be so honest and say that the delusions have created this. MC does have a name but it's mentioned like twice so don't fret. I made a rule that their bond will pull them together even across universes as long as she has feelings for him.

Chapter 1: Yearning, Unadulterated yearning

Chapter Text

After 800 years he’s finally found his bride, but she wasn’t really accessible in the traditional sense. For months now he’s had weird dreams, dreams of her. In these dreams his perspective is always weird like he was on a video call but no matter what he said she couldn’t hear him. She saw him, talked to him even, but it was like he wasn’t really there. Sometimes his dreams of her were more normal, each one of them reminding him of why he fell in love with her. Yelling at idiots while driving, singing her favorite songs, pulling all-nighters for finals, and trying her best at what she’s passionate about. He's seen her in mundane places, none of them familiar, all of them a little dated. But he didn’t care, he was sure that wherever she was he would find her.

His searches for the names of her frequented places, Walmart, Barnes & Noble, McDonald's. As far as the internet is aware, none of them have ever existed but clearly they do somewhere, his bond with her wouldn’t lead him astray.

His dreams continue, each one more vivid than the last. His final straw was when he was where he assumed was her room. She was a few feet away on her bed, watching video clips with..his voice? And some pop music to go with it something about being a diva? He didn’t know, but she laughed, Gods how he missed hearing that laugh. She pauses the video looking in his direction, his heart skipped a beat, had she noticed him? She shakes her head like whatever she saw must have been a trick of some sort and went back to what she was doing.

For some time he watched her phone from his post beside the bed, gathering information. He learned that she lives in the US wherever that is. A globe sitting on a shelf shows that they are still on Earth, but the calendar on the wall says 2025, 24 years in the past.

He concludes that she must be in some alternate dimension and their bond allows him glimpses of it for now.

His dreams ends with her standing and walking out of the room humming a song, his song. His heart ached at the simple melody. How does she know it? She’s never remembered before. But those videos of him on some app… is he a character from something here? It would make sense, their bond awaking in full and pulling them together because she wants him in one way or another, her knowing of him and his past, but he only wants her to know! He doesn’t want easy access to his life at just anyone’s fingertips!

He spends his whole day thinking and daydreaming, Thomas nagging at him to finish his current work, but he just can’t, not now that she’s so close and yet so far. He knows he will be pulled to her for their love transcends time and space, but he’s impatient. He wants to feel her, talk to her, know her once more. And maybe she does too but all she has to do is admit it and he’ll be there soon enough.

This sort of situation has only happened once before, though that time she thought she made him up. When that happened, he appeared in that dimension like he had always been there. That was one of their happier lifetimes.

He’s in pain. That symbol on his chest glows and it feels like his soul is being pulled on. It hurts to breathe, he’s so unbearably hot. ‘So she’s realized’ he thinks, his head foggy. He knows it’s time, time to say goodbye to Linkon, to this world. It never really felt right anyway, not without her.

His vision is spotty, he’s lightheaded, a ringing in his ears. Then it all stops, and he’s gone.

Ariah lays on her couch, watching some brain numbing show about who even knows what. She’s felt so lost lately, like some part of her is missing and she can’t find a way to fulfill it. It’s an awful feeling, one that leads her to some…interesting coping mechanisms. Such as a game about fighting wanderers and that’s the only reason she plays. Definitely not for some bratty artist who’s managed to charm her.

But lately he’s been infiltrating her dreams while she’s awake and asleep. She ponders this, and can’t believe she’s fallen for a fictional character.

A knock on her door pulls her from her thoughts, she stands bringing the blanket around her shoulders with her. The knocking grows more insistent. “I’m coming jeez!” She opens the door and freezes. “Rafayel?!”
