Spurious Evil Spirit Of Babel.

Summary:

The past is not always as it seems at first glance; misunderstandings born from ignorance, The Doctor, those closest to him, along with a hateful and bitter Sarkaz merc saddled with emotional instability and a knack for explosions, will slowly start to unravel what might have truly happened at the climax of the Kazdel Civil war during the decapitation operation that occurred in the Spring of 1094 that cut short the life of the King of Sarkaz: Theresa.

Chapter 1: Reluctance

Notes:

This is my first story on this site, and I hope to do well; I can't make any promises in terms of upload times, so those will likely be infrequent, and before anyone potentially eats me alive for this, parts of the story will take some creative liberties with Priestess, who I'm sure is a character veteran players are familiar with, this is due to a theory floating around where she may have... done questionable things to Pre-Babel Doctor, otherwise known as the Oracle, in terms of his noggin, his brain/mind, this is primarily due to BB-8 After operations and BB-ST-3: End of Souls. These are only the more recent reasons why she has made me feel weary in regard to her connection to the Doctor in general. Even if she was trustworthy at one point, people CAN change for the worse, even if that very person doesn't realize it. One more thing I should add is that this story is meant for veteran Arknights players, so you'll need to be caught up with the main story and some of the stories for the intermezzi events to understand the things talked about in this story.

Chapter Text

November 22, 1099.

Location: Rhodes Island land-ship, Doctor Teshin's office.
Time: 11:30 pm.

Within the interior of the Rhodes Island land-ship, Doctor Teshin quietly completes the last of his paperwork with an expression almost entirely devoid of emotion, the exception being the pained look in his gaze. Ever since the revelation of his people's fate the day before, he's been on an autopilot of sorts after returning from the incident in Columbia, a dull ache persisting in his chest throughout the day. He sighs as he sips his coffee.

"Never could have guessed to end up with more questions than answers about my past... and to think that I could very well be the last of my kind." He sets his mug down with a loud thud as he frowns sadly while staring at the surface of his desk. "I suppose this is karma paying me back for the blood-drenched sins of my past. I guess the amnesia doesn't exempt me from such a thing."

The door to his office then swings wide open as a particular white-haired Sarkaz strides in, a smug look plastered across her face. "Well, well, I only caught the latter half of your loud rambling, but I can't help but agree." She then sneers as she stops in front of the Doctor's desk with her arms folded across her chest. " I heard about some shit that went down underneath Columbia yesterday about your past. Tell me, did it trigger any of your lost memories?" She glares down at him. "I'd recommend not lying to me. Otherwise, you won't like what I might do to you."

Teshin slowly looks up at her, his eyes now dead-looking. "It didn't. I bet that's not what you wanted to hear, huh, Wiš'adel?" Despite the many things Wiš'adel had done and experienced throughout her years as a mercenary, she was slightly caught off guard by the empty look in his eyes. "I guess not; what a fucking disappointment; I was hoping to kill you once and for all; then again, if I did that, I'd never get the answers I'd want in regards to what happened... to HER.” She shrugs her shoulders. “Sure, I know it was you by this point, considering how things went down in Victoria, but I want to know WHY. Even the past version of you, as shitty as he was, wouldn’t have had her killed just for the hell of it. "  She mutters loudly in front of him. "Although I am curious about why you look totally dead inside now, I would have come to bug you sooner, but I was busy getting new grenades and shit for my gear and other stuff and just messing around at the shooting range."

A cruel grin appeared across her lips as she spoke, "Spill everything out; I want to hear what you learned; I'm sure whatever you heard in that place will make my day." Teshin weakly glares at Wiš'adel. "Fine, I don't care. Even though you hate me, I might as well tell someone. I don't want to burden Amiya with this or anyone else who gives a damn about me." He slowly reached his hands up to his mask as he removed it. While he still had medical issues, he could remove said mask for several hours, a maximum of 19 hours, although said time limit had been slowly increasing since the time he was rescued from Chernobog. His mask makes an audible click sound as he gently places it down on his lap, revealing his messy white hair and grey eyes, pronounced eye bags underneath them, despite this. Wiš'adel's expression is that of sheer astonishment as she gawks at him.

"THAT'S WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE-" She barely finds her voice again as he raises his hand to gesture for her to quiet herself. She does so reluctantly. "Enough; I will only allow you to speak if or when I allow you to during this, now... It's time for me to convey everything that happened."

Kaiser here, I edited it for spacing. You are welcome, have fun reading, and I'll be watching! 11/18/24 1:11 CST

Loonydude here; shoutout to Toasty for helping me get certain facts into my thick skull; thank you for informing me; it took me a while to consider what you said and look up extra info to realize that you were right in regards to episode 14 and the Lone Trail event; thank you for your help.  11/20/24 5:06 CST.

Notes:

So yeah... leave your thoughts and critiques if you all wish to. Please be respectful about it, I'm a noob writer. ;_;. I will likely fix the spacing between sentences later. Also, this story will have a good friend of mine as a co-author; he's a much more experienced writer than I am! And as for why there's a Doctor/Theresa relationship tag, it's also something else I want to do to deviate somewhat from canon, due to it being a relationship that could have been, to me at least, so I want to make this story cause even more hurt by having Babel era Doctor and Theresa to have been an item prior to her demise... Although Teshin is currently in a relationship with Civilight Eterna, but he treats her as her own person, Civilight Eterna won't inform him of his past "self's" relationship with Theresa, for the sake of his emotional stability. Wiš'adel herself will be added to their relationship later, making this a poly ship.
