Work Text:
Flying through the streets of New York City will never get old to Izuku, the rush of getting close to the ground and catching himself at the last minute. He lives for it. Now, if his mother ever found out that it was him who was under this mask, she would probably murder him. Inko Midoriya doesn’t have a violent bone in her body, but she would make an exception for finding out her son has been putting himself in life-or-death situations every night. He prays she never finds out. He doesn’t want anyone to know, well, anyone but one person that is. In Izuku’s defense though he didn’t plan on telling Katsuki either. He kinda just figured it out. Not that Izuku is complaining though, he enjoys getting to banter with the boy over the earpiece that they instead into his mask. The line is silent right now though. He hates it. It’s too quiet without Katsuki’s loud demands. They can't risk the league tracking him though, or finding where Katsuki is, Izuku could handle the league finding him, but if they found Katsuki and did something, Izuku would never forgive himself. Not only for being reckless but also for bringing Katsuki into this.
Swinging from the tall buildings of New York, Izuku perches on a close building to get a vantage point over the city. A crackling voice comes over his earpiece.
“Where are you?” The familiar voice echoes over the line. He’s not supposed to be live right now, it’s too dangerous.
“What are you doing, I thought it was too dangerous to keep the line open?”
“Shut up, it is actually important when you keep disappearing off my map.” The voice says, faking annoyance, but Izuku has known him long enough to look past the obvious facade, Kacchan was worried. That's never good, if Kacchan is worried, it is actually important. In the background, there is a distant beeping that keeps cutting in and out, what the hell is that? “You need to get back here right now. I don't know what is happening, but-“ The line cuts out.
“Kacchan?” Izuku says, no response, “Kacchan!” Still no response, then off in the distance there is a loud explosion. Instinctually, he quickly shoots a web to a nearby building, swinging off towards the explosion, an awful feeling pooling up in his stomach. The cars below are zipping by, and the onlookers awe and point at him; Izuku doesn’t even notice them. Getting closer to the explosion, as the scenery gets more familiar, the feeling in his gut is getting heavier and heavier every second. The streets he has been walking his whole life are flying past him in a blur. He was so stupid to think nothing could happen here. Once Izuku lands in front of the half-collapsed burning building his heart drops. That’s Kacchan’s building.
Kacchan is in that building. This building is on fire and about to completely collapse. Kacchan is in there. How many civilians live there? Kacchan could be hurt. Is it too late to even go in there, what's left of the building has 20 minutes tops before it is nothing more than a pile of rubble. Where is Kacchan.
“Oi! Spider-man!” Someone shouts in Izuku’s ear. The boy jumps and looks at the owner of the voice. It’s a police officer, he stares at Izuku expectantly, “You going in? We can’t safely send anyone in there. The whole thing is about to go down.”
Izuku quickly regains as much composure as he can muster, “Of-Of course I am, just need a second.” He takes a few quick breaths, his hands won't stop shaking. Why are his hands shaking? He’s not scared, is he? No, that can't be it. He just has too much adrenaline right now, that's it!
“No offense, but you don’t exactly have the time to take a breather.” The officer says, running his hand across his face. Izuku scoffs at the remark. He has just come all the way here from about an hour away in 20 minutes, and he has the audacity to tell him that he can't take a couple breaths? Izuku shakes the annoyance and runs as fast as he can into the burning building. It’s a tall building, and several of the bottom floors are still intact; filled with smoke sure, but mostly unscathed. Izuku clears as many apartments as quickly as he can, directing stragglers to the exit. The higher up he goes the more smoke there is. Katsuki had the idea of installing filters around his nose and mouth in his mask, he really wished that he had done that right now. Even though the mask the smoke burns his eyes and throat. He finally encounters his first floor with fire and the heat is almost unbearable. He shouts out into the fire waiting for it to call back to him. And then there it is, a small cough.
Izuku follows the sound and finds a young boy huddled in a corner behind a couch, “Hey! I’m here to help you, okay?” This kid can't be older than eight, his brown wavy hair covered in soot, “What’s your name, huh?”
“Peter,” The boy says in a quiet, raspy voice.
“Hey Peter, I’m Spider-Man, how about I get you out of here, yeah?” Izuku asks, holding his hand out to Peter. The boy quickly takes it and Izuku leads him around the fire and fallen support beams. The whole building is groaning around them and the hairs on the back of Izuku’s neck rise. He pushes Peter ahead of him as a giant piece of metal falls between them. The boy shouts and Izuku calms him, “Hey, don't worry, I am right here. I need to go upstairs okay? Do you think you can go down the stairs and outside for me?” Peter looks like he wants to protest going alone, “I know it's scary right now, it's okay to be scared! I’m terrified right now!
“You’re scared?” Peter shouts over the roaring fire.
“Of course I am scared! I’m terrified!” Izuku smiles, “But I have a job to do, and so do you! You need to run downstairs and go find your aunt!” Izuku realizes that he knows this kid, he and his aunt live here. Katsuki’s parents have babysat him a time or two for the women. Peter seems a little more sure of himself now, but he pauses. Izuku is about to physically take the kid outside himself.
“Can I ask you something?” Peter asks, “Could I…Could I be like you? A Hero?”
Peter can't see it, but Izuku smiles beneath his mask, “Of course you can! Peter Parker, you can be a hero!” Izuku shouts, Peter seems pleased with the response and finally runs down the stairs. Izuku sighs with relief and focuses himself again. There are probably still people in this building who are trapped, they still need his help. Rushing up another flight of stairs he quickly sweeps the area and reaches the final apartment on this floor. He goes to open the door, but the door is jammed. He tries to slam into it to force it open but it hardly moves. From the other side, he can hear shouting, a man's voice.
“Hey! What’s blocking the door?” Izuku shouts, from the other end of the door he can barely understand what they are saying, there’s two of them. Something about debris, “I need you guys to try and move that stuff!” He hopes they can hear him. There is shuffling from the other side and a shout, louder than the first, it is a woman this time.
“We tried, we can't move it on our own! It’s jammed!” She shouts, Izuku curses, the building is still groaning around him, and he probably doesn’t have enough time to go outside and climb up to a window. There is still an option, though. It’s risky.
“Okay, okay! I have an idea, but I need you both to step away from the door, this might bring part of the ceiling down!” Izuku waits a moment, hoping the pair are far enough away from the danger zone. He takes a deep breath and shoots two webs on both sides of the door. He secures his hold on the webs and plants his feet firmly, getting a good footing. Well, here goes nothing. With all the strength Izuku can muster, he pulls. He can hear the door frame splinter, and he pulls harder. There are so many sounds around him he can't tell if he’s hearing the door or the whole building crumble. With another good pull, the door breaks through the doorframe, completely destroying it. The door comes flying towards Izuku, he catches it and throws it to the side. He scrambles over the piece of ceiling and supports and is met with familiar, piercing, red eyes. The air gets caught in his throat, and coughs uncontrollably. He fails to gain any composure and looks again. How did he not realize what apartment he was at? He’s been here hundreds of times. Katsuki’s mother stares at him concerned, she has a cut on her hairline, it doesn’t look serious, but it’s bleeding a decent amount.
“Hey, kid, you okay? You didn't pull something did you?” She asks.
Izuku shakes his head, “No, Mitsuk- Ma’am! No! I’m-I’m okay!” He internally curses himself, he’s Spider-Man right now! Not Izuku Midoriya, he needs to act like it. Mitsuki gives him a funny look, and then her eyes widen.
“Izuku? Izuku have you lost your damn mind?” She shouts, eyes frantic, “Please tell me that this isn’t you Izuku, oh my god.” She paces, “Are you crazy?! This whole building is about to come down on us, and you are stupid enough to run in here? Does your mother know?” Masaru tries to calm his wife but she slaps his hand away, “Misaru, now is not the time,” She turns to Izuku with even more furry than before, only the type of furry a mother can muster, “You better take that mask off this instant, Izuku or I swear to god.”
“I-I don't know what you are talking about m-ma’am but I can't do that, being anonymous and all that.” Izuku shouts over all the sounds around them, “Listen, we don't have time for this! I need to get both of you out of here, this whole building is going to go any minute, I’ve wasted too much time already!” Mitsuki glares at him and points to the side of his head.
“Izuku, I know it's you, there is a hole in your mask, and I can see your hair!” She shouts, “Just take the mask off,” She pauses, “We can't get to Katsuki!” If it had been any other time Izuku would have protested, but the mention of Katsuki immediately brought him to attention.
“What do you mean you can't get to Kacchan?” He doesn’t bother hiding his identity right now, that's the least of his worries right now. Glancing around he only now notices the lack of the loud blond.
“That half of the building has completely collapsed, we tried shouting for him but either we couldn’t hear him or he didn’t respond,” Masaru says, pointing in the direction of Katsuki’s bedroom with shaking hands. Izuku follows his hands, and his eyes fall onto a wall of rubble. His heart sinks. Suddenly the mask around his face is too tight, and he can't breathe. Hastily his shaking hands pull off his mask. That didn’t help, all he does is remove the small barrier between him and the smoke. He coughs violently from the smoke inhalation. The sound of something crashing across the hall in another apartment breaks him from whatever moment he’s having and he forces himself to focus. Kacchan’s parents are still here, they need to leave right now.
“I need you two to leave now!” Mitsuki looks like she is about to protest but Izuku cuts her off, “No! I’m being serious! This whole place is about to go down, I promise I will get to him, but I need to know you two will be safe!”
“Izuku you know there is no way in hell I am leaving this building while my son is trapped in that pile of rock!” Mitsuki shouts. Izuku makes quick eye contact with Masaru, he pleads with the man for him to take the two of them out of the building, Masaru holds his gaze and glances at his wife. His eyes linger in the direction of where presumably his son is and quickly grabs Mitsuki’s hands, “Masaru let go of me!” The blond tries to break her husband’s grip but Masaru is stronger than he looks.
“Promise me you will get to him!” Masaru shouts, Izuku's eyes are wide but he nods, that's probably the loudest thing he’s ever heard the man say. Let alone authoritative. Masaru seems satisfied with Izuku’s not and hastily drags his wife to the door.
“No! Masaru let go of me! I am not leaving!” Masaru struggles to get Mitsuki over the pile of rubble in front of their door but he eventually gets both of them over it, Mitsuki shouting and kicking the whole time, “No, stop it! I am not leaving until I find my son!”
Her face is frantic and full of fear and in a split second, he breaks free from Masaru’s grip and climbs her way back into her apartment, rushing to Izuku’s side moving rocks, “What are you doing? You need to get the hell out of here!”
“I am not leaving my son here alone!” She shouts moving a huge chunk of rock, Izuku is taken aback by the sudden show of strength, “If your mother was here and this was you, she would be doing the same thing. And I would help her.” Izuku wants to protest but soon Masaru is on the other side of him moving rubble to the side as well. He knows he can't stop them. He hates it but he allows them to help move cement and metal beams until there is an opening that he can squeeze through.
“I can squeeze through that opening! Now, please go!” Izuku shouts over the sound of fire that he hopes isn’t blocking the exit.
“Absolutely not!” Mitsuki shouts searching through the opening and trying to see anything, Izuku pulls her back gently.
“Mitsuki, please! I promise I’ll get him! But he would never forgive himself if something happened to the two of you because you stayed to help him!” He pleads with her, examining the hole, it would be a tight fit but he could make his way through it, “I’ll get him I promise.” Mitsuki stares at him, she looks like she’s going to push him aside and climb through herself, going against everything screaming in her body to run to her boy, she nods.
“You better get my brat!” She says, stepping away from the opening. Izuku gives her a look that says ‘thank you’ and instructs them on the safest way out of the building. Mitsuki hesitates for a moment longer before forcing herself to run out the broken door and down the hall, Masaru not far behind her. Izuku sighs grateful that they are finally going somewhere safe and quickly brings his focus back to the task at hand. Get to Kacchan. He climbs through the open they made and crawls on his stomach. The space is small and claustrophobic, he would be completely screwed if he had to turn around midway since that would be physically impossible. Izuku focuses on his breathing, he can't focus on that right now, right now, he needs to get to Kacchan and get him out of this death trap.
He crawls a little more to a space in the rubble where he can at least sit up and look around. He shouts Katsuki’s name as loud as he possibly can, hoping to hear the blond shout back. For a long time, there is nothing, nothing but a loud roaring. That’s when he hears it, a small groan. Izuku follows the sound and crawls to the source. An immediate sigh of relief leaves his body when he sees the back of a blond head, “Kacchan!” He shouts, quickly pulling to Katsuki’s side.
“Izuku?” He groans at him, “What the fuck are you doing? Are you crazy, this whole building is going to come down any second!”
Izuku scoffed, “I couldn’t just leave you here Kacchan! I had to fight tooth and nail to get to you, and I…I couldn’t just leave you here!” He tried to lead the blond to the exit but Katsuki didn’t budge and shouted in pain.
“Fucking idiot, be careful!” Katsuki shouts he glares at Izuku, “Where the hell is your mask, has anyone seen you?”
“It’s a long story Kacchan, it was the only way I could focus after running into your parents and-“ Katsuki cuts him off.
“My parents? Where are they? Are they okay?” The blond grabs Izuku’s arm, his grip is tight and his eyes are more concerned than Izuku has ever seen them. Izuku nods.
“Your mom tried to body me out of the way to come get you herself but I eventually got them to leave. They should be out of the building by now. They are safe Kacchan.” Izuku examines the rubble on top of Katsuki, underneath the rock is another one of those metal support beams; the red staining Katsuki’s shirt confirms Izuku’s fear. He gives the blond a worried look, “Kacchan what happened?”
“I don't know, shit, I was talking to you and suddenly the line cut out, I thought maybe you had gone out of range and that-“ Katsuki pauses, taking deep pained breaths, “And that’s why you kept disappearing off my map, but then there was a loud explosion and suddenly I’m under an entire building.” Izuku nods, he’s glad Katsuki is still talking but he’s losing a lot of blood even with the metal beam in his abdomen blocking the opening, if he had gotten here earlier then he might have had more time to move the blond. His face is pale and his whole body is shaking, “Oi, nerd!” Katsuki is glaring at Izuku, all be it a weak glare, “Get the hell out of here! Don’t worry about me.”
Izuku had been looking around for anything to cut this beam, rounds on Katsuki, “Are you insane? You’re joking, right? Kacchan, never in a million years am I going to leave you here to die! Where you go I go right? You are here, so that's where I am. I can't believe you would ever ask that of me!” Izuku is fuming, how could Katsuki say that, leaving Kacchan behind? Never in a million years, “I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without you! All of this!” He gestures to the suit, “All of this is because of you, Spider-Man wouldn’t have been able to fully be Spider-Man without you!” He pauses, “I wouldn’t have been able to do this without you.”
Katsuki seems conflicted, his face rotating through the whole range of emotions at once as he stares at Izuku. It makes his skin crawl, “Izuku, I’m being serious, you have to get the hell out of here. If I could I would shove you out the closest window I could find.
“They need you! No one would stand a chance against the league without you!” Katsuki shouts, wincing.
“Kacchan I need you! When are you going to figure this out, I need you!” The other shouts back, “And I’ll be damned if I left you here, so for once put your stupid ego aside and let me help you!” Katsuki seems annoyed by the whole situation but reluctantly nods, Izuku visibly sighs in relief. He scans the area hoping that there is something, anything, he can use to cut the metal beam. His search becomes more frantic when Katsuki stays quiet. Izuku quickly rushes to Katsuki’s side again, the blond's eyes are closed and he has a deep scowl on his face, “Kacchan! Please keep your eyes open.”
“I’m not passed out calm your shit, I just needed a minute.” He opens his eyes, and his face shows indifference but his eyes have always been something Izuku could decode. Pain and fear, “Say, we never got around to adding that filtration system to the mask did we?” Katsuki asks, Izuku shakes his head, and the blond hums, “Yeah, that probably would have come in handy right now.” He says through wheezing breaths, “It’s hot as hell in here.”
“The building is on fire Kacchan, of course it's hot in here!” Izuku snaps, Katsuki stares at him, eyes wide in surprise.
“Damn, you have been spending too much time with me,” He half laughs.
“Kacchan this isn’t the time to be joking around, I am trying to find a way to save your life and there isn’t anything!” The boy shouts, “If I can't even save the person I…If I can't save you then how am I supposed to save an entire city?”
“Well, you can't save anybody if you are crushed under a building-“
“Not this again, Kacchan-“ Izuku starts, but Katsuki cuts him off.
“No, Izuku I am serious, you can't save everyone, that's just physically impossible, but I’d rather you miss one person instead of an entire city.” The two of them glare at one another. If this wasn’t a life or death situation this would be like their usual banter; back and forth, gunning for the last word.
“I don't give a shit about this stupid city if that one person means it's you I have to lose!” He shouts, “When are you going to get it into your head that you’re all that matters to me, all of this,” Izuku gestures to his suit again, “Is secondary, everything has always been secondary compared to you!”
“That makes you an idiot, a complete and absolute idiot, Izuku,” Katsuki sighs, “I don’t know if this was purposeful but this building was targeted for some reason, if they somehow know that someone here is connected to you they did this purposefully to get back to you. They know that you would be reckless and sacrifice yourself for a stupid reason, they are using that to their advantage. Don’t let them win.” Izuku was trying to pay attention to Katsuki, but there was an irritating beeping coming from somewhere. He was looking around trying to identify the culprit, "Oi! Asshole I'm trying to get you to come to your senses, don't fucking ignore me!"
“Kacchan, shhh,” Izuku holds his hand out, looking around the small opening they are in.
“Don’t tell me what to do, damn-“ Izuku cuts Katsuki off with his hand over his mouth, Katsuki is quiet for about two seconds before he grabs Izuku’s wrist and rips his hand away from his face, “What the hell, Izuku, I should murder you right here and now.”
“Kacchan, shut up I hear something!” Izuku shouts the two of them sit in silence for a long period, the only sounds Izuku can hear are their shallow breaths and the beeping. Then the idea slaps Izuku in the face. There is another bomb. There is another bomb and it is close enough for him to hear it. Izuku has pretty great hearing because of the heightened senses but with the combination of the building trying to keep itself from collapsing, the fire, and the sirens, this thing would have to be pretty damn close, “There is a second one.” He says barely above a whisper.
“Hey, dumbass, a shit ton of noise around us, you cant whisper like that. What the hell do you hear?” Katsuki glares concerned. Izuku can feel how scared his face looks. There is a second bomb. There is a second bomb and he can't get Kacchan out. Oh god, I can't save him.
“K-Kacchan, there’s a second bomb,” Izuku says a little louder, making eye contact with Katsuki. The blond's eyes grow wide and he curses under his breath.
“Are you sure?” He asks, “Izuku are you positive?” All Izuku does is nod, trying to figure out if there is anything he can do to get Kacchan out of there without disrupting his injury, which could cause him to bleed out if her can't get them out in time. Izuku almost resorts to pulling the giant metal beam out when the beeping quickens. All of the blood in Izuku’s face drains immediately. Everything feels like it is going in slow motion, the beeping is deafening. Without even thinking Izuku throws himself onto Katsuki’s body, cradling the blonds face from anything that could harm him.
There is an intense hot wave of air around them, even through his tightly closed eyes he can see the bright light of an explosion. In a split second, the entire building comes down around the two of them. A large chunk of concrete slams into Izuku’s skull. The impact spot is on fire and Izuku can barely keep himself conscious. He can distantly hear Katsuki shouting something but his head feels like it's underwater and he’s losing air. God today has been so draining, he didn’t realize how exhausted he was until just now. What was he doing again? He can see Katsuki’s face close to his own. It’s covered in dust and soot, right above his eyebrow there is a small cut that is bleeding a little. Izuku frowns, what happened? Why is he hurt? Kacchan’s face is too pretty to be hurt. Izuku thinks he’ll just lay his head down for a second, his head is killing him. It only takes a few seconds before Izuku is completely unconscious.
———
Everything is dark, there is only a minimal amount of light coming through the cracks in the concrete. Izuku’s head is fuzzy as he tries to look around. What the hell happened? He tries to sit up, but a sharp pain shoots through his entire back. He goes to turn his head to the side and can barely even do that. He can feel the weight of the whole building on top of him. What was he doing here? Why is he under a building? Izuku sits there trying to remember anything, any little detail that could jog his memory. He remembers an explosion and yelling. Familiar red eyes flash in his memory and Izuku immediately remembers where the explosion had been. Kacchan. Where was Kacchan? Did I get him out? Izuku sighs in frustration at his foggy memory, he can figure out the details later, right now, he needs to find a way out of here. Even though there is a little light peeking through, none of the holes are big enough for Izuku to look out from, let alone crawl through. The pain at the back of his skull is making it difficult to focus, he probably has a concussion, and that's why his head feels fuzzy.
Something next to him catches his eye. Through the small beams of light, he can see fluffy blond hair. Blond hair. Kacchan has blond hair. A sudden burst of clarity washes over Izuku, he didn't get Kacchan out, he couldn’t. He was hurt, and Izuku couldn’t move him without risking the boy bleeding out before he got out of the building. There was a second bomb, that's how the building came down. There was a second bomb, and Izuku had thrown himself onto Katsuki to protect him. Izuku calls out to Katsuki. Nothing.
“Kacchan?” Izuku strains himself to pull himself a little closer to the blond. Why isn’t he responding? Izuku needs Katsuki to be okay, “Kacchan, please say something.” Izuku gets no response, not a single movement from his childhood best friend. This is when Izuku begins to panic, he doesn’t know what to do. They are both trapped under who knows how much rubble, and Katsuki isn’t responding. Izuku tries to prop himself on his arms but his hand slips from underneath him, he tries again, but they keep slipping. He glances down to see why he would be slipping and he immediately wishes that he hadn’t. It's blood, a lot of blood. His hands, arms and he’s sure his torso is covered in blood. Somehow Izuku knows whose blood it is, he just knows. He needs to find a way out of here right now, Kacchan is bleeding out and he doesn’t have any way of stopping it. The two of them are trapped under a building and Katsuki is bleeding out. Kacchan is bleeding out. In frantic breaths, Izuku looks around for anything. There are little beams of light, Katsuki’s apartment was near the top of the building, so by that logic, they shouldn’t be under too much rubble. Izuku has an idea, but he needs to be closer to Katsuki to not crush him.
Izuku’s back is still throbbing from the cold concrete weighing him down. If he could just scoot just a few inches closer to Katsuki then he could shield him from any falling rubble. He takes a few deep, labored breaths to prepare himself, this is going to hurt like hell. Even with his heightened healing. Izuku tries to move his foot around to see if there is anything he can get a footing on, he’s lucky to find a metal beam. He props his foot on the metal beam and tries to push himself forward. He can barely feel himself move, his back is shouting at him to stop but he can't. He’s almost there if he could just get a little more distance. With one last push, shouting in pain, Izuku is now close enough to Katsuki to get a clear look at the blond's face.
He’s so pale, but Izuku can feel a pulse. That is enough to give Izuku the hope and strength he needs, he gives himself a few seconds to prepare himself for the next part of his plan. For all he knows there is only one or two large pieces of concrete above them, he can move that with no problem. Just lifting a building off his back, easy right? Izuku takes a deep breath and puts himself over the top of Katsuki. With the last bit of strength Izuku can muster he begins to push, he screams out in pain. The pressure on his spine is almost unbearable, and Izuku has to stop for a few minutes. It’s not long before he tries again, pushing through excruciating pain to move the building above him.
Come on Izuku, just push, you are almost out of here. You are Spider-Man, start acting like it!
Izuku can feel himself starting to make progress, slowly the rubble above him begins to move and he can see more and more light flood into the small pocket they are trapped in. With each push, he can hear more and more sirens around him. With more steady pushes, concrete beginning to move more and more, and with one final push, Izuku throws the concrete slab to the side, freeing them. He looks up breathing heavily, for the first time in probably several hours there is finally open air above him. Quickly he drops to Katsuki’s side, with the new light, he can examine the blond. He looks even paler now and Izuku can clearly see the cut above his eyebrow. Without hesitation, Izuku quickly removes the metal beam lodged in Katsuki’s abdomen with care; the injury immediately begins bleeding even more. He immediately picks up the blond and makes his way to where all the police cars and ambulances are.
As he makes his way out of the building, the entire crowd that had formed is silent as he walks to the closest doctor. Two paramedics are by his side quickly and help him carry Katsuki to an ambulance. He can feel all the eyes on him as he moves.
“You need to get him to a hospital immediately, he was impaled by a support beam,” He says quickly, his mouth feels like it's been stuffed with cotton, “He’s-He’s lost a lot of blood, please get him to a hospital.” One of the paramedics says something to him but he doesn’t hear them. The whole world is spinning around him. He may have overdone it with the whole pushing a building off of his back. There is a face in his view, he thinks they are asking him if he’s okay, but there is a ringing in his ears so intense that all sound is being drowned out. Then there are familiar, comforting green eyes in front of him, “Mom?”
He thinks she says something, but he still can't hear anything. Izuku can feel himself losing his balance, someone’s arms catch him as he stumbles. There’s more shouting around him, but it is all distant again. This happened before, when the second bomb went off. Am I going to pass out again? He tries to keep his head up and himself awake, but with each second that is becoming increasingly difficult. You can’t let your guard down, not now, those bombs were planned, how do you know there isn’t a third one? There are probably hundreds of people here, can he save all of them? If there is a third bomb could he save all of them? He could barely save one person, how the hell is he supposed to get hundreds of people away? He loses his footing and falls to the ground completely.
Get up! God damnit Izuku get up!
He has no strength left in his body, and for the second time that day, Izuku’s vision goes black.
