The Lament Of Abundance

Summary:

((PLEASE READ TAGS AND AUTHOR'S NOTE))

Shrill wails of agony and anguish permeated the ears and poured from the mouth of the witch of abundance as her body faded to dust right before her tear-ridden eyes...

All because of what the witch of pride had done
Anyone would have figured that to be the end.

Yet it wasn’t.

Because the human witch woke up in the body of a small cookie.

Chapter 1: Waking into oblivion (PRELUDE)

Chapter Text

The Witch of Abundance felt a sharp pang of complicated feelings-

Misery…
Pain…
Anguish…

The emotions were intense and raw, mixed and jumbled in her mind, like being rung through a mixer. Yet it was odd: She also felt nothing at all at the very same time. How could one feel such raw, unfiltered emotions yet also feel nothingness?

Hell if Elizabeth knew.
She was dead.

Or, at least she was supposed to be.
But dead people didn’t think coherent thoughts- did they?

Maybe she wasn’t dead… maybe just on the brink of death.
Again, hell if she knew.
But she couldn’t be dead if she was thinking.

She could recall her last moments of life, fading away- herself and the others- they all withered away like a dead piece of barley. How could things go so sour? It was fine for such a long time in the castle- yet now- this.

What was going to happen now?
The witch didn’t know.
Maybe this was some sort of purgatory perhaps? Or maybe she’d just be in this desolate, cold, black void for all eternity.

The witch of abundance thought that was maybe what she deserved. Or maybe the divines were punishing her and the other witches for playing god.

Making sentient life would probably be frowned upon after all.
It was all so comical- the idea of food becoming walking, talking, filled with life and light. Yet she and the other witches used their powers to make it possible. Maybe now karma was just serving justice.

But, then again, if she wasn’t supposed to use her curse in that way, why wasn’t it taken away? It was easy to gain it, so whatever higher power gave her it could have taken it right back if they wanted. Yet they didn’t. She still was bound to her curse, last time she checked, anyway.

It was all just so confusing.
The raw emotions began to swell and fester, fear began to creep up slowly in her mind, as she didn’t know what was coming next.

Did dead people get scared? No, they were dead! Why would they be scared?! So, she wasn’t dead- but then again-

WHAT was going on?!

“Elizabeth… ?”

That voice- The witch knew it all too well.

The witch of light…
Aria…
Her friend…
Her mentor…

She could see it now- a bright, blinding white light glowing in the distance. It was hard not to notice against the black backdrop. It was faint, far away- yet she could still see it.

“I think I sense your soul… I pray you can hear my voice. If you can, let me know you’re there…”

The witch of abundance wanted to call back out to her, but she had no voice to call with. Yet she still tried, screaming in her mind, wanting desperately to reach out to her beloved friend.

“Ah! There you are.”

Suddenly the light grew and grew in size, and it felt as if the witch of abundance was speeding twords it. Then she stopped. The light was nearly surrounding the blackness entirely. Now that she was closer, she could see it was the vague outline of Aria herself, yet she was akin to a white silhouette. There was no way to make out individual details.  Aria then seemed to pick her up as she felt as if she was lifted upwards.

“There you are… I’m sorry… I’m so, so sorry.”

Sorry? Why? It wasn’t her fault.
It was…

“I know… I know… you’re confused and disoriented. Never fear, my friend. You and the others will live once again. I promise. This is not the end, for any of us.”

Not the end…
Not… the… end…

Live… again…
Again?

“Hush now… You’re safe in my hands.”
Then the witch of abundance felt like she was- moving? Aria held her soul in her hands as softly as she was able. It made Elizabeth feel reassured, being able to hear Aria’s voice. The witch of light then paused.

“It’s time to wake…”

Wait a second… The Witch of Light began to disappear. Where was she going?! The darkness was back- what was happening now?!

Wait- now the darkness was vanishing… something was happening. The human witch began to feel something brand new, different.

Sensation…
Light…
Life…

“Hey! She’s waking up!”

That voice, accompanied by the sound of a gentle breeze and the distant sound of birds calling.

Green eyes opened slowly, vision blurry at first, two cookies came into focus with concern on their faces. One was an older man and the second a younger woman. An overcast sky above them. Itchy grass beneath her hands.

“Hey- you’re finally awake.” The woman cried.
