Chapter Text

It is often said that love conquers all and is the most significant force in the universe. The power gives healing and life, binds souls together, and tells us that all will be well.”

Dragons Edge Present Day

"Eirny, come down from there!" I rushed into the hut, alarmed to see my daughter hanging by her tail from a loose board leading up to the loft. "Oops, sorry, Valka," I apologized as I stepped over my other daughter, who was lying in the sun on the floor. "Hey, Toothless, can you get the boys?" I called out to my mate as I placed Inferno in a safe place. I sigh in relief as Eriny chirps and falls safely into my arms. I nuzzle her and put her safely on the floor. I turned around and smiled as I watched my two daughters playing on the floor of their nest. Then, I saw my dominant mate carrying our two sons, curled up on Toothless's back, into the nest. As I lay on our bed, watching our hatchlings play around the lower level of the nest, my loving mate curled around me. I thought back to when I thought I would never be happy again when I felt that I had lost everything. We had overcome the pain inflicted by Viggo and the dragon hunters, and our passion had triumphed over loss and betrayal. As I closed my eyes, I remembered when it all began.

Dragon Hunter's Base 1 year ago Normal Pov

Viggo gazes intently at the Maces and Talons board, clutching the two pieces he deems crucial: the Marauder's and the Viking's chief fragments in his hands. "Hiccup Haddock is a formidable adversary, but he's fighting for the wrong side. He's intelligent, strategic, and a remarkable tactician, yet he uses his abilities to make friends with dragons. Just imagine his potential if he were to join my team." Viggo whispers as he hears his brother's voice before he spots him. "I assume it's another raid by dragon riders ?" The dragon hunter leader states in a toneless voice as he hears the jiggling of coins in a sack, no doubt from the dragon fights.

"No," Ryker says, anger clearly in his voice. "Our men are few and far away, and this last auction couldn't even bring decent buyers. Hiccup and the dragon riders must be dealt with once and for all, Viggo." The older brother verbalizes angrily by punching the wall.

"Indeed, brother. The younger hunter agrees. But to do so, we must separate the boy from the other riders and, most of all, the Night Fury." The dragon hunter leader casually mentions as he stares at his Maces and Talon pieces.

"Separating him from the others won't be a problem; the Night Fury is the main concern; even when separated, he always seems to locate the boy," Ryker huffs, folding his arms over his chest.

"Hmm, you are quite right, brother," Viggo inquired without looking up from his Maces and Talons pieces. As he stands up and goes over to his maps, he notices a red circle over an island. "Say, Ryker, when was the last time we checked those underground prisons that we use to capture dragons for Dragon Fights?" He asks curiously without looking at his older brother.

Ryker stands beside his brother and examines the map. His eyes gleam as a smirk crosses his face. "Should I set a trap for our friend Hiccup with what he loves most, brother?" the burly hunter asks, hearing a coo from outside the door and knowing precisely who is making the noise outside.

As Viggo turns to address Ryker, he sees a blue changewing flying in, landing right in front of him. "Mmm," Viggo looked at the changewing, and a plan formed in his mind. He hummed to himself as he turned to Ryker. "Brother, I think it's time we gather our new hunter." Viggo declared. He stepped out but halted when he saw the fastest ship in his fleet. "Hunters set sail! We have a dragon rider to capture," he announced loudly with a smirk and a confident look in his eyes. He went aboard and down to the lower deck, where he kept the cages for the dragons. He stared into the very first cage. "Soon, Hiccup Haddock will be where he belongs, by my side, serving my will."

(Dragon's Edge) Hiccup and Toothless Early afternoon Normal Pov

"Woo Hoo! Yeah, baby, come on, Toothless, I know you can do it!" Hiccup yelled enthusiastically as his dominant mate raced past him with his new automatic tail, making him faster than expected. After being kidnapped at Berk's 400th anniversary, Hiccup convinced his mate that the auto tail was necessary but only for emergencies, though they still preferred to fly as one. Toothless does another lap around the sea stacks before swooping down and grabbing Hiccup in his forearms.

"Well, hello, my little mate. I would much prefer for you to enjoy the view with me." The dominant dragon coos fondly as he easily flips his beloved into the air as his mate lands safely on the dragon's back. The human leans forward to lie on his stomach, his face pressed against the Night Fury's neck.

"Yeah, but the tail is perfect; it keeps you straight and faster. Hiccup replies as he kisses the dragon's head . I'm glad you allowed me to give you some independence." He adds.

" Hiccup, we are mates; what's mine is yours. I never want to fly without you, and remember, I only agreed for emergencies, but you are correct; it is perfect, just like you, " Toothless smirks as he turns his head slightly and flicks his tongue to lick Hiccup's cheek.

"Mmm, not now 'Mia Kara' save it for later tonight; for now, let's go check in with the others." The submissive human stuttered, his face showing a light pink blush as he leaned forward and gave his love a mischievous smile.

"Alright, but if the twins try anything to our nest again, they will fear the name: Night Fury," The rare Night Fury growls with a hint of annoyance as they fly back to the clubhouse.

(The Clubhouse) Normal Pov

"Alright, is everything ready for tonight?" Fishlegs yelled, excitement in his voice as he looked around and saw the clubhouse was still the same, and his excitement morphed into annoyance. "Snoulot!" Fishlegs shouted with expiration and impatience as he saw Snoutlot sleeping in a chair with his helmet over his eyes. "I told you that we need to clean this place to celebrate the anniversary of Hiccup and Toothless being mates." He added, looking irritated that the monstrous nightmare rider continued to sleep as he went over and lifted the helmet off the sleeping Viking's head."Snoutlot, I told you to sweep the clubhouse and make room for the dragons." The Gronkle rider appears frustrated as he knocks the helmet off Snoulot's head and grabs a broom to clean, causing dust to fly everywhere the broom touches. He expresses his disappointment and says, "You should be the first person to celebrate his success. Hiccup is your only cousin, and he had a difficult upbringing. This is a joyous moment in his life." Fishlegs sweeps out the remaining dust and rearranges things to make space for the dragons.

Of all the riders, Fishlegs was the most supportive of Hiccup and Toothless relationship and felt it was necessary to celebrate a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

"Why should we celebrate my cousin dating his dragon? Snoutlot declares with a shrug. He's been doing it since he was 15." Snoutlot, although weirded 'out' by Hiccup being with Toothless, secretly was happy for his cousin that he found someone that made him happy. Still, he had a reputation to uphold, so he pretended he didn't care.

" Hey guys, look." As Fishlegs looks behind him, he sees Ruffnut and Tuffnut with fish in wreath shape hanging around their necks and two around their dragon's necks.

" Ugh, guys. " The bulky dragon rider sighed, irked by the twin's idea . " I said get buckets of fish. Why did you even make those?" He pointed at the slimy, smelly wreaths of fish.

"Isn't it obvious ? Tuffnut begins as he looks at Fishlegs with an obvious look of duh as if offended. Our esteemed leader and one Night Fury are always in the air, so food is needed for on the go. I know it's brilliant, right, sis?" He asked his sister.

" Oh , you are not mistaken, bro. Everyone knows food is better on the go ." Ruffnut smiled with glee, agreeing with her twin. She noticed Barf and Belch trying to eat the wreaths off each other's necks and quickly grabbed the gifts before they could ruin them.

"Shame, I wanted to eat that although, I doubt Toothless wouldn't mind sharing ." Barf whined.

"Maybe we can sneak a few from the party, Hiccup won't mind and I agree Toothless wouldn't mind either." Belch offered.

Fishlegs just looked at the twins with an eye roll and sighed while taking the wreaths made of fish. "Eww, how did they even make these?" He holds his nose and keeps the wreaths away from his face with disgust as he puts them on the round table. Meatlug, sleeping in the corner, sniffed the air and eyed the fish with a hungry stare. "No, girl, I promise you'll get some fish and rocks later." Her rider gently pulls the female Gronkle away from the fish table.

"Mmm, I suppose I can wait and the guests of honor should get first dibs." Meatlug warbles to herself.

"It's the twins, Fishface, Snoulout grumbles while giving Fishlegs a deadpan look. How do they do anything and survive?" The twins were interested when they learned about Hiccup and Toothless' relationship. They believed that Hiccup had finally come over to their side and gone full Loki, especially when they discovered that Hiccup was the submissive in the relationship. Still, Hiccup told them that just because he was the submissive didn't mean he had gone full Loki and that he and Toothless had equal ground in the relationship. The twins, although accepting the idea, were still waiting for the day that Hiccup would reveal his commitment to Loki.

"Hey, it's okay; babe, Hiccup, and Toothless will appreciate the gesture anyway ," Heather said, coming up behind Fishlegs and putting a hand on his shoulder, offering support. Heather decided to stay on the edge after she left the dragon hunters as she had nowhere else to go, and Hiccup welcomed her with open arms; after waiting for a while, she and Fishlegs started dating and have been going strong ever since. Like Fishlegs, Heather was very supportive of Hiccup and Toothless relationship as she suspected something was going on between them when she first met them on Berk 5 years ago after she washed up on Berk and tried to steal The Book Of Dragons and gave it to Alvin as a ransom for her parents release.

"Hey, where's Astrid, Heather?" The Berserker's boyfriend asks, looking around for the blonde shield maiden. Ever since Heather moved to the edge, she and Astrid often spent time throwing axes at trees and talking about their problems or what was going on in Heather's relationship with Fishlegs; that topic usually brought out Astrid's hatred towards Hiccup and Toothless relationship. Astrid would then excuse herself, call for Stormfly, and spend an hour or so trying to find Hiccup or get him to get him alone.

The razorwhip rider sighed with sadness, but her voice was slightly agitated. "She's coming but is unhappy about it and is doing a lap around the edge looking for a certain Night Fury or, more importantly, his rider." The Berserker tightens her grip on her ax handle as everyone groans, knowing what Astrid is about to do.

"Did she go looking again after throwing the ax? "Snoutlot asked, finally getting up and walking towards the group.

Heather nods her head yes, with eyes downcast. "She needs to let this go. I'm worried about her. She's my friend, but seeing her try to take Hiccup away from Toothless isn't healthy. I know Hiccup finds it annoying, and he's usually pretty calm about it, but one day, she will push too hard, and he'll explode on her." Everyone grimaces, knowing full well that Hiccup has a wrath that rivals his father's when pushed too far.

Astrid was the only one of the riders who wasn't a fan of Hiccup and Toothless being a couple, as she thought that she and Hiccup were getting closer after the Red Death as they hung out all the time and could tell each other anything. Still, she didn't know what was happening behind closed doors. After the blue oleanders were taken care of and all the dragons were healthy, the twins decided to celebrate by waking everybody up with Zippleback gas in their homes. However, as they were flying by Hiccup's window, they saw Hiccup and Toothless mating with Hiccup's window open. At first, no one believed them, but after confronting Hiccup about it, he admitted it was true. Although shocked, the teens congratulated Hiccup, and the dragons congratulated Toothless, saying that the two were perfect for each other.

Suddenly , they see a blue Nadder land on the forway, and a very angry Astrid dismounts with a look that scares little children and causes them to run back to their parents with tears falling like mini rainfalls on their faces ." Son of a half-troll, mutton head, Astrid mumbled to herself as she walked into the clubhouse . " Here, I got the ingredients for the food and the extra tail fins from Hiccup's hut." She said as a smirk appeared at the thought of going into Hiccup's hut. He rarely let his friends into his hut, or The Nest as he calls it, because dragons have nests with their mates, and Hiccup, being a Night Fury's mate, adapted surprisingly well to referring things in a dragon's reference. Dragons don't often let others into their nest, and Toothless is very protective of Hiccup and their nest, so usually, Hiccup meets the other riders outside the hut, or he pulls the lever up and meets them in the doorway. Only in emergencies does he allow them in, or if there is a severe discussion between him and someone else, does he allow anyone, except for his father and Gobber or Gothi, to come in.

"I take it you couldn't catch Hiccup again," Heather questioned cautiously. Astrid just glared, which caused Heather to sigh in relief and sadness. 'Toothless most likely heard Stormfly coming, or maybe Stormfly warned him, and Hiccup told Toothless to fly faster, ' she thought.

"No, as she turned to Stormfly and pointed to the wall, Spine Shot," The shieldmaiden commanded Stormfly as she threw the tail fins in the air. The Naddar shot five blue spines from her tail and pierced each tail fin to the wall.

"Hiccup will not be happy that Astrid went into his nest." Stormfly cawed to the other dragons, who all agreed, knowing that the auburn-haired man was as protective of his nest as Toothless.

"How about you and I take care of the food, Fishlegs?" Heather smiles at Fishleg with a warning look; Fishlegs only looks at Astrid and smiles nervously before nodding at Heather. Astrid simply rolls her blue eyes and sets up the food table for the humans.

(Hiccup and Toothless) Normal pov

The mates arrived outside their nest, and Toothless waited as Hiccup fumbled to open the entrance. "Toothless, would you mind waiting out here for a bit?" Hiccup asked with a guilty expression, biting his lip. "I need to check on something by myself." Hiccup says without looking at his dominant mate.

Toothless looks surprised but agrees as he goes up and kisses Hiccup on the lips, his tongue asking for entrance into Hiccup's mouth, which Hiccup allows. The dragon's pink tongue explores the innards of his mate's mouth while the submissive human feels his cheeks heat up and moans in the back of his throat. "Too-less n-not now l-lat-er." Hiccup stutters through the bond as he can't speak, not with his dominant mapping his mouth and all thoughts on his loving mate. Toothless releases his hold on his mate's mouth a second later, stealing another quick peck before moving away and looking at his mate with love-lust-filled eyes.

"Okay, but please don't take too long. We don't like being apart for very long. The night fury warbles as he begins walking away. Before leaving, he tapped his tail fin under Hiccup's chin and added, Don't keep me waiting, my love."

The auburn-haired human stood there with a dreamy expression and a crooked smile until he remembered his task and headed up to the upper level of his nest to find a specific gift. As he looked, he found what he was looking for. "Hmm, looks good." He proudly whispers as he lays his gift down, reminiscing on his and Toothless' journey from best friends to mates. He thinks back to when he first shot down the Night Fury and then found the dragon in the forest, and he shudders at the thought of him almost killing Toothless that day. He remembered the day when Toothless spared his life. Despite being taught from a young age that dragons were a threat and needed to stand eliminated, he wondered why the Night Fury had shown him mercy. According to the Book of Dragons, Night Furies were particularly dangerous and were to stand killed on sight. "Your only hope of survival is to pray that it does not find you." It was like a force was drawing him to find the Night Fury that day to prove that they weren't the mindless killing creatures his dad portrayed them to be.

He smiles as he remembers the fish Toothless gave him, and when he touches his hand to the dragon's head, he instantly feels a bond that is impossible to break. He recalls they became mates when Mildew planted his Blue oleanders, a flower poisonous to dragons. Toothless had become very ill, and Hiccup was terrified that he would die. The thought alone paralyzed him. At that moment, he didn't just love Toothless; he was in love with him and never wanted to be separated. All feelings of love for Astrid left his heart, and what took root was a deep love for the rare black dragon.

He remembered being impatient while on the boat to get the cure. When the Scauldron disappeared back into the water after the attempts to extract its venom, Hiccups felt his heart scatter at the thought of Toothless dying. By some miracle, the Scauldron had given them the poison by biting Mildew's buttocks.

After all the dragons got the cure curiosity of Hiccup, Gobber, and Stoick (and Mildew), Hiccup confessed returnedlings to Toothless, and Toothless admitted that he had fallen in love with Hiccup the moment they bonded in the cove. Toothless admitted that he always felt something was missing from his life, but the control of the Red Death clouded it. But after meeting Hiccup and seeing how different he was, the Night Fury said he realized that Hiccup was what was missing. And Hiccup admitted that after meeting Toothless and confessing his love for him, he finally felt whole.

The Fury's submissive reaches up, rubs his mating mark, and smiles wide as the memory returns to him; after being captured and tricked by Alvin, Toothless existed, separated from Hiccup on Outcast Island. Toothless decided to mark Hiccup as a way of communicating with him. So later that night, Stoick was at the Great Hall late. Toothless had set up a romantic night for him and Hiccup, which ended with them mating and the midnight dragon biting him on his shoulder, marking him. Hiccup laughs with glee in his eyes as he recalls being nervous and having his first sex. Still, Toothless was very careful and reassured Hiccup that he loved him, and no matter what, nothing would ever change that. The night had been perfect as they both gave themselves to each other and although they were sore the next day, Hiccup didn't regret one moment with his loving mate.

Hiccup smiles as he feels the mating mark. " Hard to believe that was five years ago; I love Toothless with every fiber of my being; He's my life. The thought of anything ever happening to him." He growls at the thought of Viggo or anyone hurting his soulmate. "I won't let anything ever happen to Toothless." Hiccup feels his beloved's concern through the bond, and he quickly calms back, puts his anniversary gift in a hidden area of the nest, and runs down the steps, eager to rejoin his dominant mate.

Toothless Pov (Cliffside)

I look out at the ocean, recalling the last five years. "It's hard to believe that Hiccup and I have been together this long, and I remember when we first formed our bond." I think back to the first time we met in the cove. I remember watching him draw and his fear of stepping on my drawing. As soon as his hand touched my snout, I felt a connection between us. The control of the Red Death vanished from my mind and existed, replaced with a need to protect this strange human, unlike the others who attacked without mercy. I felt something that I thought I never had for any dragon: love. It wasn't uncommon for dragons to love the same sex; however, a dragon never loved a human.

I remember watching him attempt to restore my flight, and I could sense that he blamed himself, but I never did. The first time we flew outside, the cove was unique, even though he made me slam into a few sea stacks. When we separated mid-air, my fear wasn't for myself but for him; he was human, and while I could survive the fall, he would not. Hiccup surprised me by straightening my flight and maneuvering through the narrow sea stacks like he had been flying all his life. I was so impressed that I accidentally shot a plasma blast, which Hiccup got burned, but I wasn't too worried about his clothes. I realized I didn't just love Hiccup; I was in love with him.

My feelings for him grew in the days after, but I knew he would never feel the same way, especially after the flight we took with Astrid, so I kept my feelings in check. But I didn't care what happened to me when he was in trouble at the arena; I had to save him. After ensuring he was safe, things took a turn for the worse as the Vikings tackled me and then shackled me on Hiccup's father's orders. I whined at the memory, as I thought I would never see Hiccup again, but he surprised me by not only coming to rescue me but also showing the other teenagers how to ride dragons. I tried to scold him for coming and putting himself in danger, but he said he couldn't leave me. When the Red Death smashed the boat we were on, Hiccup continued to try to save me, but he ran out of oxygen. I panicked when he went unconscious, and my heart broke that I would die, and Hiccup would never know how I felt. Then Stoick saved me, and I returned the favor by rescuing him.

I growled at the memory of the battle with the Red Death and seeing Hiccup fall into the flames. I have never been more scared in my life, but my little mate proved he could overcome it, and after that, the future looked bright, even with my hidden feelings. Between keeping the peace between dragons and Vikings, congregating dragons into everyday life, and various Vikings trying to either take over Berk or control dragons, Hiccup and I existed swamped after the Red Death. New dragons would also appear on Berk, and Hiccup, being the dragon lover he is, always tried to befriend whatever dragon came by. Although it tested my patience when he would put himself in situations where his life would be in danger, I knew his heart was in the right place.

I remember the time when we confessed our feelings for each other. The blue oleanders only served to show that Hiccup had feelings for me for a while. I was ecstatic when we finally mated for the first time, and I marked him, symbolizing the start of our lives together. The following day, Hiccup was sore and mentioned feeling different in his private area. He realized that he had female organs, but only on the inside; of course, I knew that I had marked him as my submissive, meaning he could get pregnant, but I knew the chances of that happening were slim. I explained all of this to Hiccup when we started using the bond. Odin above, that was an experience I'll never forget. I laugh at that memory.

When I first started talking with Hiccup through the bond, his face was priceless; he thought he had finally lost it but quickly calmed down, and now it's like second nature to talk all day, even when he's deep in conversation with someone else. Even when we're apart, we can still communicate, though the bond isn't as straightforward as when together. One day, we were testing the bond when Stoick walked in and saw Hiccup talking to me and making out. Hiccup was worried, and I became protective of him because of the feelings flowing through the bond, but Stoick surprised both of us by saying, "I'm proud of you; you finally found someone who makes you happy; I accept." He smiled and patted Hiccup on the back (more like pushed him), but the feelings flowing through the bond changed from worry to pure happiness. I saw Hiccup smiling and crying happy tears as he hugged his father.

Although I know he said it didn't matter what the others thought, I knew it bothered Hiccup what the others thought about him being mated to a Night Fury and, more importantly, being submissive to said Night Fury, but to his surprise and mine, the other teens were accepting. The Twins took it further and tried to recruit Hiccup to praise Loki, but he quickly dismissed them. I felt the tension lifted from his side of the bond when his friends supported our relationship. The dragons didn't mind that I had a human for a mate, although Hookfang often teased about Hiccup being easily pleased by me. Such would cause Hiccup to blush, and I would growl a warning to the nightmare. The dragons learned quickly not to harm Hiccup, or they would face my wrath. Gobber, as always, supported Hiccup and me in our relationship, made sure no one made snide comments to Hiccup and even offered some lube for intimate moments. We had to agree not to be close to the forge. Everyone, with only a few expectations, supported our relationship. Gothi was made aware of Hiccup's new condition, so she made him aware of his chances of pregnancy and the risks. Given Hiccup's small form, as he was only 5 '1 at the time, and the fact he was male, the chances of conceiving were low, and intense stress could cause miscarriage.

The only one who didn't support us was Astrid; although she hid it well, I would often find her glaring at Hiccup or myself whenever we hugged or walked around the village, but she kept her rage in check, and she is an excellent asset to the team, so for now it works. I suddenly feel anger from my love's side of the bond, and my ears perk up . "Hiccup!" I call out through the bond. I send a wave of concern, but he quickly assures me he's fine, so I let it go and leave to find him, knowing he could get into trouble between our nest and seeing me. I laugh at the thought, but it's full of love.
