Work Text:
This is not about sacrifice. Our experience of loss differs. You chose to lose your brother in your attempt to help him, while my family, my home, was taken from me due to an accident. I had nothing but the clothes on my back, and the name gifted to me by my parents. Yet even that had to be changed to fit in to a world that was not my own, under a sun that shined dimmer than the one I remembered. You are still able to return to your family, yet I will never regain mine in the same way. I still push on, though. Believing that my actions now will make up for the loss of my childhood by providing others with a chance for one. They never will, and never could. I was once called Kytheon, yet the world took that from me. Shaved off my innocence and soft sounds, making my name harsh, in a tongue that was not mine. For all your talk of deals, and choices, and mistrust, at least that is of your own hand, with your own control. I never asked for this burden of protecting those who cannot protect themselves, and it hurts every day to wake up and shoulder it. Dear, I am tired. Exhausted. I only wish you can forgive me for making my own choice for once, and not letting you make your own. I know you have had far worse choices, but you are trying to do better, friend. I hope that you will continue to do so. I hope I have inspired you to do so.
Yours forever,
Gideon Jura
